For best results view at 1080p60fps. Hey' it's my fourth favorite action game featuring dragons that shoot, Namco's Dragon Spirit! Yes, I'll compare the original arcade game that the Turbografx-16 / PC Engine port in this episode. As a bonus, I'll even throw in some NES comparison footage and commentary! Why? Because I love my audience that much!

The TG16 is a great conversion and it is the best home ports. The last 2 stages are tough and the turtles are even deadlier than the arcade because they come in multiples as they are smaller.The TG16 protagonist dragon was less forgiving in its own hit detection. Enemy projectiles touching the wing loses one life bar.The NES version has all the levels and almost the enemies of the arcade version but the area is more sparse,lesser enemies and less HP boss points. The NES seems to have a larger area to hide enemy projectiles

My aunt and uncle own a skating rink in Texas and this was one of the arcade cabinets they had inside. I couldn’t even get to the boss of area 1, but I was like 4 or 5 the first time I played it. About 10 years later the game pops in my head but I shortly realize I never learned the name of it. One quick internet search later and I figured out the name, Dragon Spirit. Along with the name I also discovered the TG16 port was on the Wii Shop Channel but I don’t remember if the NES port was there or not. Now I have the arcade version on my Switch thanks to Arcade Archives alongside the sequel Dragon Saber. I haven’t beaten the arcade version but I have beaten the TG16 port multiple times.

Awesome video! Any plans to do a follow-up with Dragon Saber? It did get a Japan-only, PC Engine port. I've never played thru the PC Engine version and am curious what are the differences.

Thanks. I'd planned originally to do this, Saber and Phelios (arcade and Genesis) but put the other two on hold after this one struggled to get views. Still, I'll probably do Saber sometime in 2024.

Loved this game, had it on both Tg16 and later the nes. Both versions were different and never understood why.

I'm sure they just wanted to do something to differentiate it on NES since it wasn't capable of replicating the arcade version too closely because of the hardware differences between them.

I skipped around this video way too much trying to find the NES comments. One thing I didn't hear you mention was the short little cutscenes that played in and only in the NES version between levels. If I missed this, please time stamp it.

I'm pretty sure I didn't mention those, the video was really about the Arcade vs the PCE/TG16 comparison since they're similar, the NES footage is a little more of a bonus since there were some places where there was no equivalent level in the PCE/TG version when compared to the arcade one. I figured it'd be a good opportunity to take a look at the next best contemporary-ish port of the game and see how similar areas compared to the other two versions.

The bgm on the second stage "Kazan" is way better on the pc engine than the arcade.

I seen a real Dragon flying high in the cloudy skies of Indianapolis Indiana on Warman and Morris Street west side June 1 2014 . I wasn't the only one who saw the Dragon too that day. I studied Tai Chi Chuan for 10 years at the time and didn't believe in Dragon's until I physically saw it with own eyes !!! I'm a Kung Fu sorcerer and I confirmed yes Dragon's are REAL 🙏🏻☯️🐲 yes I also have a Turbografx-16 too Every thing I've just said is Truth.
