Nice offline run! I had such consistently normal/good (but not great) luck the whole run. Lionex failed to be captured TWICE with Sirloin at the end. Second try S class, first try tournament (with an amazing 2nd fight that gave us max HP into 3rd fight). GG!

Man this was literally my favorite game ever when I was a kid! This and cobys journey. I always wanted the other version but never got it… yea anyway man this brought me back thanks

Hey bro this is actually Dragon Warrior Monsters 1, Coby's Journey came out a few years after this. Both of DWM1 and DWM2 Coby's and Tara's are awesome games.

re: "the luck manipulation" they are forcing the shopkeeper foreign master by satisfying the conditions (walking 200+ steps on one level) without satisfying the conditions that spawn other masters, as they override shopkeeper (e.g. picking up all items gives bishop, leaving a level made of only two screens gives bard), then using a bookmark to save scum as the foreign masters only have a 50% chance of spawning on the next level with their conditions met.

Can you explain the manipulation to make the merchant appear? I see you walking back and forth for X amount of time but is there more?

Merchants will spawn at a 50% rate if the player takes 200 steps on the previous floor without picking up items, and the current floor is not a special floor. Also, the other special NPC conditions can't be met, like the Cleric/Bard/Wizard. So a Repellent is used on a floor, 200 steps are taken without picking up items, then typically a Bookmark is used to save and then the next floor is checked for the Merchant.

These monster games suck compared to the warrior ones. Not much innovation or gameplay. Just fighting & moving around copy & paste maps that are linier.
