When there was no traffic on a Sunday . Kids roamed streets, cricket, bmx's ... it's not cox i'm older , it really was a better time. And music like this just added to it .
Gerard Edwards cheers mate . Today's youth miss out so much on what it means to be young and free . No distractions , no social media , Hey hey it's Saturday - family and friends night . I could go on and on reminiscing the good ol days . 👍🍻
This has to be one of the greatest Kiwi songs of all time, a testament to the depth of talent in our little country at the bottom of the world. RIP Marc Hunter, taken from us far too soon like so many others 😔😔 but their magical tunes will be in our minds & hearts forever! 🎤🎸🎹🎧🇳🇿
Great kiwi song and as an Aussie I bloody love it as well, brings back memories of mateship and loyalty as 18 year old mates sitting around a fire drinking too much grog and listening to cassettes, thanks for sharing this video as so many awesome memories come back 💯💥🤣🤣
@drew saleThey also wrote, Runaway. Not many people seem to know this. :) I do a lot of research on Kiwi/Aussie music . I come across lots of unknow facts.
Those where my young years Back 1980 I was 15 years old now 2020 I'm 55 years old still Listening to the 1970s & 1980s songs wish I could turn back the time
Totally agree.I was 18 in 1980 now 2021 I'm 59 and this song takes me back to the days of Countdown with Molly Meldrum and the great aussie and N.Z bands around that time.
Such a kind gentle soul. I delivered bread to his home in the early 90’s, shortly before he passed. I’d always tell him of my love of his and Dragon’s music, his gentle smile is forever etched upon my mind.
@@timedison6687 Yes! He wasn't very well, but still ... he was very kind and spent a little time telling me hilarious anecdotes of his time in the music industry. In fact, I visited his grave down in Gerrigong, close to where THIS film clip was made! I pray he rests easy.
There’s just something about this song that causes a deep feeling of nostalgia in me. Like dwelling on the past, knowing that the best days of your life are most likely over, but carrying on anyway ... 😔
Well said mate. Marc was truly unique. Superbly written by Sharon and Al, thank god Farnham didn't catch on to this one when they were writing it...I feel what people say...so many musos have passed away...but only Marc do I weep for and miss...cheers
On this day in 1989, the Dragon single “Young Years” debuted on the Australian charts (April 17) The song was from Dragon’s ninth studio album “Bondi Road”, which was the last album of new material to be released during Marc Hunter's lifetime. It was also Dragon’s final Top 40 hit, peaking at #13 in New Zealand and #18 in Australia. The song was written by Dragon keyboard player Alan Mansfield, and Sharon O’Neill. In the context of Marc Hunter’s death less than ten years later, the poignant lyrics looking back carry an extra emotional layer, which struck a chord with many fans… That’s Wendy Matthews on backing vocals, and Tommy Emmanuel on guitar.
Yeah and both of those bands only had success and only known because of Australia. NZ was, is,and always will be a sihthole. If they didn't move to AUS and play here they would be unknown.
Awesome song awesome group Marc was a very talented singer sadly he passed away well before his time. This song evokes so many memories of some great times in life, I know the band has soldiered on with Mark Williams on vocals and I'm glad they have but Marc Hunter will never forgotten.
Such a huge loss on the Australian music scene, lucky enough to see Dragon play live in 1988 at the Patch beachclub Gold Coast when I was 15 and they went off
Love Marc & Dragon so much. I met him back in the early 1980's in Kings Cross. My sister & I were in a coffee shop & in walked Marc with a friend. Nowhere to sit so he asked if he could share our table!! I calmly said yes but was so excited at age 16. Marc was so lovely. We talked for hours !! And he bought us lunch. When we parted ways my older sister asked me "who the f*** was that". Yes, true story. My sister committed suicide December 27th so I am in tears when I watch Dragon vids as they take me back to that amazing, funny & beautiful memory. Love them both & miss them so much.
Dragon were my favourite band when I was a teen. Had all their albums, & knew every song. I had the biggest crush on Marc, & was so sad when he passed away. The music lives on as his legacy.
When Santo from the d-gen ripped this in 5 in a row it was comic genius. Mick Molloy nailed Marc's flaring coat actions..with the gap in his front teeth you could fit a dollar full of two bobs in, but Santo with Todd's grey hair, trenchcoat and munching on a chiko roll it was the funniest shit I had ever seen. They both jumped and a huge piece of tree fell 😂😂😂 No offence, RIP Marc you are missed every day by many...💔
Time takes it's toll Took it fast secret meetings at the river river's bend simple days when I called you friend. Came a time We went separate ways Those were our young years..miss you RR x
Reminds me of my brother I lost. Take me back to the younger year's Bro. Paradisio primero siempre del la Corazon moy bato. Batos locos 4Eva Bro. Miss you
Who are only famous because of Australia. NZ was, is, and always will be a sihthole. If Dragon didn't move to AUS and play here they would have been unknown.
it was just the best time ever when I was kid. You could see Dragon Mondo Rock Crowded House, the Oils. Ever Friday and Saturday night was band night. Your eyes would still be ringing till Sunday morning. As Richard Clapton sang..don't waste time these are the best years of our lives.
