Scott does a pretty good job playing King Kai, Yajirobe, Korin, King Kai, Yamcha, Korin, King Kai, Burter, Yajirobe, King Kai, Yamcha, King Kai, Yajirobe, Korin, and Yajirobe.
That "STOP MOCKING ME" *destroys the moon* bit might've been just a placeholder for y'all, but it's become legendary to me and a few friends. It's one of the lines I quote the most from DBZA. Don't underestimate it.
I wanna say history of trunks was the most well made thing they've ever made, and I'm part of the minority that believes hellsing is the better abridged series
I think Hellsing was consistently funnier while DBZA was definitely the higher quality series. Massive props to the VA for Father Maxwell for scoring the role of Ainz Ooal Gown for the Overlord dub!
@@abdulazizmohammed8797 General Ivan/Chris Guerro (Father Maxwell, Cooler, Dr. Gero, and probably a few other minor roles I can't remember atm) is a bonafide voice actor and landed a major role as Ainz Ooal Gown. So yeah, props to him.

"Take that, moon! Perfect orbit, my ass!" I actually LOVE that line though, it's so random, why would piccolo have an inferiority complex against the moon's orbit.
Because the Moon was remade by Kami and Piccoolo is sort of in annoblique way a byproduct of Kami. He's basically insecure about maybe not being as perfect or beloved as something else Kami made.
I love the contrast of Lani who is still absolutely into their early writing and is quoting left and right and Kaiser who is just completely dead inside EXCEPT when it comes to the Princess Snake stuff
@@uknownada I don't think any of those characters cut into his editing. Most of those characters with the exception of like king Kai barely have any screen time in there first 10 episodes
@@uknownada so, basically you only want him to voice the people that literally had one scene, like the blue guy? That would be incredibly demeaning. I get that editing is his job, but if they weren't having fun, what would even be the point in it? I mean, that's why they stopped at cell and now are doing their own animations. Toei and youtube made it hell for them for years. Once they hit a satisfying stopping point, understandably, that's what they did.
@@ksad96they were going to make the abridged of the bojack film, but they found themselfs burnt out and dont liking how things were going, so they decided to end the series in the cell saga instead of the bull saga
This is the best kind of excuse to rewatch DBZA…. Not that I need an excuse at all, but this is a nice “developer commentary.” I enjoy learning about the writing and editing process of my favorite long running RU-vid series.
They used to do editing videos where he showed you the whole process he went through in order to create those episodes. I miss watching those. They were fascinating and fun
I love that Piccolo line "Stop mocking me!" as he blows up the moon. It just feels like he has this little moment in his brain where he thinks the moon is so much better then him for no reason.
Scott is just an embodiment of the artist's curse during these. Sees a shot "I could do that better now". I feel that in my core. Props to you, Scott. For suffering through this.

@@thehermitman822 That really is though what it means to be an artist. You look back on your previous work, especially one as old DBZ Abridged season 1, and as you keep improving you keep going "God I was shit." in response to the older content.
@@thehermitman822 Well there's one issue with that. If he actually feels that way, why bother hiding it? Also from what I can tell people are mostly amused by him suffering while Lani is playing up the "God this is shit but I'm living it up." aspect.
It doesn't apply to just artists, when I look back at some of my uni assignment or early projects as a fresh graduate I go through the same thoughts, like how did it take me 3 days to do this I can do it in an hour now!
I thought the mic quality on Princess Snake was intentional, since it sounds like the in-game communication for Metal Gear Solid. It really seemed to fit.
Isn’t there a scene in Metal Gear Solid 2 where the fake president and Raiden are next to each other but still on codec? That also means that that Princess Snake codec joke still works.

I do a lot of visual/audio editing for my videos and its really fun to watch you break down all the small nit picky stuff you dislike all these years later. DBZA has been my favorite YT series forever.
I'm pretty sure Space Limewire would be a much better age gap. Sure Spotify was around at the time founded in 2006 (yes I looked it up) and episode 5 was releases in 2008, but Limewire was still a Biggy then
@@Marcelelias11 we don't know. Not really. They made him CEO, they had a few really good years of growth in streaming and game content. Then DBZA was over and they come out telling us it was a consensual departure agreed on by both sides but basically scrub his importance of history out of anything going forward. Drop him wholly from any and all auxiliary projects without even the potential excuse of his being too far to work since Among Us had friends from the West coast US and over in England. They change out his Voice roles for others and we're never given details. There were rumors of course but they ranged wide and were certainly unreliable. One coincidental note is how divided everything seems after his boot Streaming became scattered, the team of LaKiGr fell out (though that's unrelated as Nick has lightly explained) and they began to release less and less material. It's a weird thing and presumably very personal or divisive given their refusal to provide details which is fair I suppose; its their business not ours. But modern TFS per their own description seems to be a vaguely connected group for half of it and isn't where they were in 2016-2018
We do know what happened though, Ben made a post about it on his personal blog less than a year after his departure, it's on the same post that has the "Eloy returned to his home planet" gif. I'm not sure if it's really my place to share it, but the blog post is public so anybody can see it, and if it's wrong of me to share the story I'll delete this comment. The reasons are completely personal, there is no ill will between him and any of the TFS team. The reason he gave is kind of like this: (warning for death of a family member and bad romantic relationships) before joining TFS Ben's younger brother died of sudden heart failure. The death of his younger brother was a very big influence on his life, goals, attitude, etc. He goes into it in his inspiration for the character of Eloy. While he was living in Texas and being the CEO of the TFS company, he got involved with a very religious woman, things were getting serious between them and the woman wanted him to convert to her religion and marry him. She tried to convince him that everything they'd been through was God's plan for them together, which was a horrible button to press for Ben because the biggest influence on his life decisions was his younger brother's sudden and unfair demise. The woman tried to backtrack and say the bad things didn't count, but their relationship was over soon after that. It also caused Ben to think long and hard about what he wanted to do with his life, and he decided he didn't think he should keep running the company. They've said that Ben is welcome to come back at any time. I haven't been keeping up with Ben, but last I heard he started a job at a library and he is doing okay.
Really enjoying the behind the scenes info on these. And I completely agree that HD cropping sucks. I hate it when old shows are cropped to 16:9, just use the black bars. Same thing for movies, keep the original aspect ratio and letterbox it for TV.
I recently watched a few videos on the matter, and I never realised how awful the DB community has had it when it came to box set releases of DBZ because of the terrible remastering ideas, including 16:9 cropping.
@@Meteorite_Shower I remember back in the day, when the Japanese DVDs were regarded as the absolute gold standard... It is kind of sad that, for all the flaws that people have discovered with them over the years, they are *still the gold standard* by virtue of the simple fact that Pony Canyon didn't go *out of their way* to mess something up. Like, yeah, they have some pretty terribly faded colors at times, the audio is still a far cry from what it was on TV because Toei threw out the original audio masters... But at least you get a clean image that shows everything we are supposed to see.

My best friend and I went through a period of disconnection from 2007-2010 and when we reconnected, we went to a Waffle House together, then to his place where he introduced me to DBZA. I think we stopped at episode six, but I know by the end of episode five I had laughed myself into a crippling headache and my stomach hurt for hours afterward. That was a good day.
Oh, man, I remember being shocked into nervous laughter when Vegeta blew up the bug planet when I finally got around to watching the official release because I legit thought you guys _made that up._
Since so much of this series is looking back and wishing what they could have done differently, I think it bears mentioning that MasakoX said that if he redid the scene of Goku falling off Snake Way, he would have said "wheeeeee!".

10:12 Lani says he doesn't know about that placeholder joke. Even though every single person I've talked to thinks it's one of the funniest moments. Because in the dub piccolo figured out the moon transforms them into gorillas. In the abridged he just snaps, blows up the "mocking" moon and accidentally fixed the issue. It's so good, I'm surprised that Lani and Kaiser don't see the sheer genius in that scene.
I can't wait for them to get to Frieza/Cells introductions. I feel like TFS really elevated their characters when they first appeared and I wanna know how they came to that

Regarding Princess Snake, if she ever makes an appearance in HFIL, especially since she's supposed to be Zarbon's Girlfriend (a phrase I never thought I'd hear or say), are you guys gonna try to get in contact with Quadros to voice her again, have someone else do the Snake impression or are you just gonna drop the Metal Gear motif with her entirely and have a woman voice her? Because I feel that since Zarbon's in much closer proximity to her (what with the whole being dead and living in Hell thing), there's some pretty decent material to work with from there.
So apparently Princess Snake is King Yemma's ex-wife and in the game Dragon Ball Z: Harukanaru Densetsu it's implied she's in a relationship with Raditz

@@noahkarpinski1824 one is free to consider anything canon they wish, but doesn't make it actually canon. DBZA is also its own story with its own canon, though even when considering DBZA specifically, this is never stated, nor implied.
My money’s on the Namekemania episode. Up until then, since season 1, the quality was steadily increasing, and by that episode everything came together and really took off.
Whoever voiced Nappa did an excellent job in his role. I feel like the performance of Nappa really helped draw people towards DBZA. At least that's how I remember getting my friends to watch it back in the day.
You guys can see the growth you took throughout the series. It’s super great you learned this editing stuff and voice acting work on dragon ball z abridged instead of your own show. No one expects anything fantastic from an abridged series like we got at the end of DBZA. So now anything original you make can be done really spectacularly.
The bug planet filler is probably the best use of a filler I’ve seen on TV. It did a lot to establish just out of their league the earthlings were. Planet exploding aside, Napa and Vegeta are just able to completely annihilate a population without even breaking a sweat. Your use of it to establish the dynamic between Napa and Vegeta was *chef’s kiss. It was funny and useful. Great decision to keep it in.
As a fan of DBZA since season 1 i have to say watching these commentary videos is food for the soul. Really and truly I want to thank all of you at TFS for the great content over the years. Watching the quality of the videos and humor skrocket over time has been a distinct pleasure and I hope you know that the joy you brought fans throughout it all has been wonderful. I hope you all are doing and continue to do well in life. I also hope you remember to take time for yourselves and enjoy life, because you have helped make life more enjoyable for a great many people. The Princess Snake stuff was thigh-slappingly HILARIOUS! That was when I went from curious to fully on board. The Solid Snake voice was PERFECT, the audio quality actually enhanced it, because it sounded like he (she?) was coming through on the Codec, and the added gags like the carboard box were just chef's kiss. I hope you're still proud of all that, because it was GOLD.
I love that final dodge scene so much. Implying that Piccolo's attacks are at the speed of light but he is yelling dodge at the same time. I love that it takes a few seconds for his voice to reach Gohan after his attack hits.
My twin and I loved watching Abridged together, still was one of our fav things to go back and rewatch with drinks, before he passed last year. Was really missing him today, seeing this helps.
Im 22 and I've been watching this since the first episode came out man. I grew up with DBZ:A and I can't express just how much joy and how many laughs you gave me for more than half my of years being alive. I'm forever grateful
i dunno if y'all intended it. but I love the delay between the lightning strike and Piccolo shouting "DODGE!" because it implies he was REALLY far away (and in the Namek arc we are shown his voice can REALLY travel) since light (and therefore lightning) travels faster than sound. It shows the speed of the attack great and also how kinda unreasonable Piccolo is being, which feeds great into the pavlovian response Gohan has later.
This commentary series has breathed so much new life into watching the old episodes. Please consider doing this for Hellsing Ultimate Abridged as well!
I knew as soon as nappa and vegeta's dynamic was introduce......... this series was gonna be golden lol All of those references that pop in are such nice touches to the comedy. You guys were ahead of the times lol
Honestly, I was hooked from ep. 1. You're talking about imperfections, and you wish you could go back and do it again, but it was so good. The first time I ever watched an episode of DBZA was in 2011 while I was in Iraq on a combat deployment. There wasn't much to do there, but the internet kept me entertained even way out in the desert. There was an internet cafe on base, and I would go watch youtube when I wasn't on shift working on helicopters, or when I was on shift but we had no maintenance to do. One day, about July or August, I finally got around to looking it up. I don't know what took me so long, but there I was. I was cracking up from episode 1, and it was on from there. I kept seeing it show up on my suggestions for a long time since I was always looking up episodes of the original. I watched DBZA that first night, and watched straight from ep. 1 to 25. I was so tired from laughing afterwards, that I fell straight asleep when I got back to my trailer. After that, I kept waiting for the next episode to air. I was completely on board from square 1. Thanks, TFS, for releasing DBZA on youtube. Every reference you've made has kept me laughing since 2011. Keep it metal. \m/
My headcannon is the reason why vegeta and Bulma waited so long to have their daughter is because cooler punching him all the time and goku hogging all the senzu beans
I have two theories on the matter. 1 bulma asking the dragon to de age her every few years might be working as unintended birth control. Or 2 trunks was the result of a fling and things did not get serious until after majin buu arc.
Deeply enjoying these developer commentaries, even if Kaiser keeps losing bits of his soul through episodes. I think it was one of these episodes I introduced DBZA to my friends and we ended up watching it at her birthday party and it was a riot back then
The reporter cutting to Sailor Moon during the news segment on the moon being destroyed always makes me laugh, such a simple joke but it lands perfectly. Also, this Thing that you're doing is fantastic. It's really interesting to hear some of the back story, although Kaiser doesn't need to be as hard on himself, 2008 was a VERY long time ago.
"Climb down!" And then the "Arrrggghh!" Is the moment that this series hooked me. I was about two drinks in and I just could not stop laughing. That plus the Metal Gear Solid box just killed me.
The flashback with actual music! I’m used to people watching the RU-vid version where the scene was completely muted and then questioning if something is wrong with their speakers. I’m enjoying this watch along.

I dont usually watch director commentary. But I honestly do enjoy watching you guys go through and see how you would do things now, and the thought process without having to watch archived livestreams that arent all there. Congrats on everything and I genuinely look forward to seeing what's in store in the future
