This track is of course perfect for Dragonblight, but also for a real snowy/frost landscape. It’s one of the most hauntingly beautiful yet sad pieces of music I’ve heard. If you’re ever in an area covered in snow, put this on and walk around.

and a more obvious/general opinion: one of the most amazing arrangements ever trying to express a cold/frigid/desolate region. its truly an art form making this type of music to express an environment and I have WoW to thank for showing me this kind of music.
@kernel2006
@kernel2006 8 лет назад
I agree... I almost *feel* cold listening to this. The "falling" motif reminds me of Vivaldi's 4 Seasons, Winter. But whereas that has the drama and energy of a snowstorm, this piece has an eerie stillness to it... just what is lurking out there in the frozen wastes?

I love how each music for each zone is very specific. If you just close your eyes and listen any zone music of warcraft, you can easily see where you are, what's surround you. I can't find anything like this on the other MMORPG, where you have some awesome OST too, but, they are not that specific to a zone. So it looses a little magic.

The Dragonblight music is defenitely one of my favourites from WoW. This brings back some good memories of roaming the vast, snowy landscapes of Dragonblight. The music itself is great as well, especially the piano piece is magnificent. Thank you for posting this!

Back when I lived inside my head. And nothing was wrong with that. An entire world, an entire empire built in my head from childhood. Now a pile of ash that I can only get brief glimpses of. I have died, yet I am still here. Witnessing this cold, barren world with pure sense. It is still here. I am still here. But the dream is dead. Where do I go now? Where do I find my mind? My empire? Will I ever visit again? Perhaps upon death, every moment of time in an instant. Every slab of self a reminiscent vision to enjoy once more before that final curtain closes, and then…

ok ive been immersing myself in this music since wotlk in 2010 and i just have to give my explanation on what it sounds like. the "intro" sections sound lik the forest expressing its sadness after an animal passes away in the dead of winter... or something along those lines... the lower pitched horns sound slightly more majestic yet still sad making me imagine a fallen buck after the crack of a rifle ringing out ominously from the hunter looking for food to feed his family... and then in also the same section but with the added piano on top... the piano keys also sound sad/sombre but at the same time a very interesting ring of intrigue/mystery too it... imagine being one of the first people exploring Antartica... and when it the piano ends on that one "dull" or "off" where it goes quiet for a second I picture an exploration team trudging through the deep snow finally get over a ridge just to see "nope... nothing over here either..." ever since WoW and other games like Skyrim etc ive been getting so immersed into orchestral music its just amazing how much atmosphere and imagination this type of music can conjure, truly music at its definition

I hope they bring a lot of the darker stuff back to wow. Mists was interesting at first but lately, I have been looking back a lot at older content. I am even lvling another DK even tho I have plenty, now. But I am enjoying doing all this for the millionth time. And tbh I never had a Gnome past lvl 5. Never fancied one. But now its quite refreshing.

Truly not to be confused with the "WoW is dead lololol" statement, I do believe that World of Warcraft ended with Wrath of The Lich King. I have never before or after been so in love with a video game as to completely lose myself in the world and story of it. WoTLK was simply amazing. The zones, atmosphere, the music, the story. And the zones. Oh my god. I still remember setting foot on Howling Fjord for the first time. Holy shit.. The expansion was so good I still come back for the music many years later though I haven't played in forever... But after the Lich King was slain the story of Warcraft was done for me personally. He and all the other badasses such as Kil J. and Illidan were killed. All the villains were gone. WoW died after WoTLK and it was a glorious honorable death. WoTLK marked the peak of how awesome an MMORPG could ever be. Nothing in any expansion afterwards came close to WoTLK. Cataclysm had an awesome concept., but shitty design. "A new chapter in Azeroth, a ravaged world. Shifting powers, etc" was a good plan. I saw it in the very beginning though. It was the uncanny valley. The change made it all seem somehow a mish mash of style and concepts. WoW had lost it's genuine feel in Cata. In my opinion it had to be a new WoW. New engine, new concept etc. Cataclysm should have been project titan. In my mind WoTLK was the final expansion and it should have been that way in reality aswell. God I fucking loved this game.

For you, sure It might have ended, but for those, like me who have joined AFTER the Wrath Of the lich king, reading this made me upset. It's nothing but Nostalgia. Sure at then it looked good and fun, but now, we have better graphics, much much more to do and so on, Wow Is not dying, And will not die for few years.
@Platinum9951
@Platinum9951 7 лет назад
If you didn't play Wrath, how would you know it's nostalgia? I feel sorry for you not joining this game during its peak. The graphics have improved, the game's enjoyability has steadily declined. Though I did like raiding in MoP.

Wotlk for a last expansion? Hell no! How you dare to end the great story of Warcraft with Wotlk when there are a lot of villains left. Yes, for sure wotlk was a good expansion, but all the feelings you have - are just the feelings of nostalgia, that's all. You were younger, the games were different, times change. That's all

The music was the best experience from World of Warcraft, according to me. I downloaded music and arranged playlists with my favourite tunes, so every time I travel by bus or train I listen to these soothing songs. Playing WOTLK with my friends was the best time of my life, it was not just a game. It was a way to feel relaxed every once in a while.

I am just going to drop this here but i noticed a music quote to Olivier Messiaen a french composer in his piece "Chants de terre et de ciel" in the movement "Arc-en-ciel d'innocence" --> 4th measure. It's in the same key, same melodic movement, chords sounds very alike. Very tasteful if intended by the wow composers :)
@quadrata8382

To me the music in dragonblight is like death and decay, the violins being the sinister concept of decomposition, the wind instruments being the remnants of what was once strong and majestic (being the dragons) and the piano representing the rotting of the carcasses which is now just bone.

It's been one year since this comment. I still agree. Nothing will beat the feeling that I had from WOTLK. Even though my server sucked and was so close to being empty, I was having loads of fun. The theme, the dungeons, the mechanics, all seemed so refreshing...So fun...I'll never have that feeling again in WoW

Dragonblight: My favorite zone. Why? It makes me want to delve into the lore of the place(Yes, people who like lore are going extinct...), and investigate why they're dying out. Well, that's what it was like my first time playing, and I still read the lore and hang there. It's nice.

Who remembers that level 73 elite that patrolled the farm by Naxx? Kreug his name? Back in the first month or 2 of WotLK he dropped that sword Enti's Quenched Blade that had hidden dps and every twink had it until it got nerfed... Cant believe its been 10 years, I quit playing WoW at the end of 2010 when Cata came out. Man, 17-18, living at home...I'm 27 now with a family and house, havent gamed in years...Its bittersweet to reminisce. Doesn't feel like its been that long...can remember where I was and what I did in game better than shit that happened yesterday.

This was the best time in my WoW history. I started WoW with the release of MoP so I had to go to every Expansion to Level my new and only Character from 0 to 90. And after a while I arrived in Northend. I was very happy because I like those snowy Areas and Mountains and all the Undead war is going on, it was fantastic. And my favourit Area was Dragonblight and only because of the Music and Landscape.

I remember doing that group quest to kill that frost wyrm, it was me on my hunter and 2 rogues. My pet died to it so I ended up having to kite that guy in circles while the rogues took him down. Other than that the dragonshrines were nice touches, shame though we only got placeholder models for Ysera and Nozdormu at the time. And who could forget the Wrathgate and the Battle for Undercity that came after. And if I'm not mistaken the alliance actually got to do a quest that led them to the Frostmourne cavern and got to actually see how Kel'thuzad came back so that sucks for us Horde.

Wotlk was easily the worst expansion with it's mind-numbingly boring afking in dalaran, casual raids and aoe fest instances void of any challenge with the only thing difficult being zero lights in the dark.
