This makes sense and is a very insightful point! It definitely could be overkill if one's Skill is already extremely close to an item's Difficulty, especially with inspiration factored in! I'd think it would also depend on the actual cost of the materials/how much more expensive the higher-ranked ones are versus how much a guarantee one would want from a craft!

Isn't it? That's just bad news. So It doesn't matter if I 5 or 50 points away from the breakpoint only the inspiration procc (20% for example) can make it higher quality? Question 2: So should I only use insight (+30 skill) when I actually reach breakpoint with it (cause it wont increase my chances anyway)?

@@palfotta Question 1: After some testing I've found the quality bar to be VERY misleading. You only seem to have "decent odds" of crafting the next rank without Inspiration if you're very very close, like within single digits of skill versus difficulty. Otherwise, even when the line on the bar looks relatively close, say even 3/4 of the way, the odds of crafting the next rank are next to nothing if not zero without inspiration! I really hope the next iteration of the interface would show us the odds... And to answer question 2, yes! That's why I have muliple sets of profession tools for crafting different stuff. For stuff I can gurantee higher quality with I usually use Resourcefulness (if that item cannot multicraft). However, if you are crafting lots of different items, inspiration can be worth it for some (for which it'll take you over the breakpoint) and not do anything for others. It depends on how you've spent your Profession knowledge.

It would depend on the Dragonflight meta (which stats are best for which specs) and class & spec representation (how many people playing each spec and thus would want those stats). Looking at charts (after the expansion comes out) for which specs are the most popular and doing the best, and which stats those specs prefer can be a good way to start!

That is a great question. And I don't have the full answer to it unfortunately! I believe first you need to figure out how much using +skill each higher ranking reagent is going to give you. Then, dividing the skill you'll end up with by the recipe difficulty should give you the odds (but recent crafting has made me think the calculation isn't done in this way, so we'll have to check)

I think crafting some things is definitely worth it! Old world stuff have been slow sellers on my realm! I know some people have had success with things like mounts and Tomes of Illusions (and so have I, but they sell way slower now compared to a couple of expansions ago on my realm)!

I am inclined to agree! It's misleading too (particularly with the bar placement between item ranks not representing the actual odds of crafting the next rank)

Nope! Dragonflight will have its own set of levels for professions (as does all previous expansions). You would only need to level up the "old expansion" levels if you want any of the old recipes!

I feel you!! Now I'm feeling much the same way with which crafted items are the best to go for (as you can't respec profession talent points), how to get them, not to mention embelishments 🤢 so last night I finally took a step back to do some gathering...and it was pretty fun!

@@lonmeasley752 I've been gathering since my main Tailoring/Enchanting Warrior bankrupted all my alts 18 years ago.

It is quite complicated! But I think the profession knowledge (limited skill points) is a way for players to slowly gain "power" over time. So be sure to collect those whenever you can (weekly quests, one-time treasures)
