most of the production alone is so boring and mind numbing like I've heard that fucking trap beat a trillion times already atleast try to do something different
Like any drake album it needs time but notice slowly and slowly these songs creeping into your playlists. I think why it’s hard to love is coz DONDA is like the dark shadow and with listening parties etc kind off raised the bar but remember Drake is not a producer Kanye is
This album will always stand in the shadow of DONDA. After hearing Kanye absolutely spill his heart out on a very artful, mature, and boundary pushing album talking about everything from the death of his mother to his faith in god, hearing drake talk about “fuckin bitches” over “I’m too sexy” sample just doesn’t cut it. It’s like trying to go to McDonald’s after eating at the most expensive restaurant in town.
Honestly you guys nailed it with this review. Unbiased and as fair as possible. I also think that with such an experimental and boundary pushing album like Donda that is fresh with us CLB just feels like it’s missing something in comparison to Donda with the whole direction and substance of the music and subjects at hand. There is def a handful of songs that are gonna be great for the car and etc but I think it’s safe to say drake was underwhelming this time round
@@shanelennon9147 the reality is the reality, they beefing , they drop few days from each other , Donda is better so far and Tyler has Album of the year unless Travis or Kendrick drop ... nothing changes
@@light3181 well if you’re comparing them which I think is stupid because one is gospel rap and a tribute to his dead mum and the other is a rap/R&B album mainly about drakes relationships. Drake definitely out raps Kanye and it isn’t even close
We try to be unbiased when tackling every review on the channel and we’re grateful that you guys take notice of that🙏 I do agree that the replay value of certain songs will be high but it just isn’t too cohesive as an album… thank you for the love and support!
It honestly surprises me that Kanye's music is even compared to Drakes. Kanye is clearly leagues above Drake in terms of creativity and innovation. The only comparison I see is in album sales.
@@MaxChillin damn! Yes, that’s it! I hate when people try to compare Bc of numbers. McDonald’s sells the most burgers but that does not mean their burgers are the best.
love Drakes catalogue but I’m a little disappointed because I guess I was expecting a concise 13 or 14 track album that has some musical maturity to it, instead of a 20+ track album that sticks to the same sounds we are used to. It’s not like he’s dropped off though obviously, pen game is still on point a lot of the time, Scary Hours 2 EP was fantastic and his features lately have been great. Hopefully after a few more listens it grows on me more, I still think Tyler has rap album of the year so far and will take home the grammy. Also good job reviewing, you guys are killin shit
Even if it grows on you it shouldn’t give drake a pass on this. His style hasn’t changed in the past 7 years and I think it’s showing his fatigueness in the game.
@@eddiepalomares7639 not necessarily. He’s still producing hits, still fairly young, still has that drive, the problem is just the concept of CLB. The album is undeniably honest but the production is dated. After the reception of this album I think Drake knows that to stay on top he needs to make an album for the fans next. This is my least favourite Drake album but I wouldn’t call it bad. I can see a lot of casual listeners liking it.
Donda had the better music… Let’s see which album stands the rest of time. I hear passion in Kanye’s voice; even on the weaker songs. Drake had a few passionate cuts here, but most of it just sounds so generic. I could not believe that too sexy song. It’s like not the same drake I grew up on, this is watered down pop for the most part
Nothing was the same beats it IMO the covers iconic the songs are more quality over quantity than take care and every song is at least good unlike some of take care
I’m drunk asf but I just wanted to say what you guys are doing for music is honestly monumental. Years from now people will look at these reviews and realize how important they are to what artistry is. As a Kanye fan, I will say this album was good, didn’t do anything breathtaking BUT for Drake, these are good songs you can vibe to, Drake does he does best and if he wants to stretch his limits, he has to do sum different. As much hype as there was for this project, I would say it was lived up to a certain degree, but as Drake fans I can see you guys were looking for something more which is why y’all are great for the community. Either way, what a time for music! Hopefully Travis drops soon and we’ll be living in history!
This right here, respect. Haven’t seen a single comment like this in the last 2 days. Your analysis on Drake doing what Drake does best, I hadn’t even thought of that
The hype, and even the opening song alluded to a new transformative Drake. All we got was the same Drake and not even great Drake. His features this year were better than any verse on the album, which is a bummer. You have to try really hard to say this wasn't a disappointing album. Out of 20 songs, there's maybe five or six decent songs, and time will tell if any of them are worth going back to. We learned nothing new about him. He's a father now, he's a superstar, he's been in interesting relationships and he didn't really get into any of that.
Knife talk came off like a Savage Mode II throwaway that Drake got to keep. It definitely didn’t fit the aesthetic of the album for sure but 21 killed his verses and the hook on there.
@@HaiasiYenk Exactly. I'm in the same position and I thought that since Cole, Tyler, and Ye really gave their A game that Drake would step up from Scorpion, but that really just didn't happen at all for me
I've been saying this too. He's staying too much in the safe zone. Kanye experiments and sometimes he misses, but then comes back with an excellent album later. Like from 808s to Graduation and MBDTF
@@Spectre0799 Not knocking your opinion because I’m legit curious, what qualifies as his A game for you? Only experimenting and changing his style up? Again, I’m legit asking. Personally, I wasn’t expecting anything different from his views approach but with a more refined pen
I thought you'd both say you love this project because you're followed by Drake. With this honest review you've gained my respect and proved your integrity, good review guys.
Personally I loved this album. I didn’t go in with any expectations other than I want some song to vibe to and be in my playlists, I got what I wanted. Songs like Pipe Down, Papi’s Home, Fair Trade, Love All, Get Along Better, I really enjoyed for my playlists. But then I also got some like 7am On Bridle Path where I get his lyrical stuff as well. Overall it ticked pretty much all boxes for me. I really enjoyed this project! Nothing Better Than Some New Drizzy!!!
I agree with this 100%. Personally I think too often When a big name drops everyone has expectation of the master piece but they forget to just enjoy the music.
Drake is running out of things to talk about, and that's expected. He mainly uses his life experiences to build an album. This approach would work best if he's dropping an album every five years. It's more profitable to build a character and tell a story/concept. I'm not saying it's wrong to use life experiences but there is only so much you can talk about. I expect this to happen to lil baby and lil durk. Artiste like Tyler the creator can build a character and tell a story; So they can always have things to talk about. Tyler can easily have the option of making an album about his life experience/making a character and telling a story. Also IMO, Drake needs to get out of his comfort zone and be experimental like Kanye. The drawback is you would definitely fail a couple times before getting that hit.
The funny thing is if hear CLB you would’ve never known the we went through a global pandemic. It’s insanely mid. Not bad at all, but not good. It’s like a 20 point game from a superstar whereas you can’t poopoo 20 points right? But coming from a superstar it’s a tid bit underwhelming
You don't need characters to tell a story every artist is different and Tyler choose to go that route which works for him. The problem with Drake yes he is running out of things to talk about but if that is the case try to make it the best possible rinse and repeat but he doesn't. Views, Scorpion, and CLB had the same theme which is not an issue but when its lackluster and uninspired then it becomes one. If Views, Scorpion and CLB were 12 songs and he worked on it change few things here and there we would be having a different conversation.
i wanted to enjoy this album, but i’m getting really tired of drake albums with insane amounts of filler. it also kinda just feels like he’s running out of things to write about, because his success narrative hasn’t really evolved at all since IYRTITL there are definitely some fun highlights like you only live twice and fair trade, but honestly the features are bigger highlights for me than drake’s performances. yebba’s heartbreak was my favorite part of the album by far, and it literally isn’t a drake song lol
@Hiss thank u 🙏 I’ve been saying this statement for years and folks thought I was hating. Now, you’re seeing the slippage of his writing very noticeable.
@@intelligencecycle3523 yeah, it feels weird how drake’s writing style has been stagnant. to put it this way, i’m not against a book author sticking to the same genre/series they’re known for. but if there’s very little change in the story/conflict, i’m not going to be enticed anymore.
yeah definitely 90% of the album just feels like filler and it gets painfully generic after the first few songs, personally this is the first drake album ive listened to from start to finish and it was completely underwhelming because people were like "oh this is album of the year" and whatnot, yebbas heartbreak kinda sounds like drake was just trying to copy donda's vibe but that might be just me
The Remorse is without doubt the sleeper on this album. Really great closer. Amongst the universally considered good songs (7AM, Fair Trade, Champagne Poetry, In the Bible), I think Remorse is soooo good.
I just discovered your guys’ channel about a month ago and I gotta say, you’ve quickly become one of my favorite channels on RU-vid. You guys are putting in that work and pushing quality content. Keep grinding boys
Props to you guys for giving an honest review, I’m sure it wouldn’t be easy given he’s following you on Instagram but this is what gives you credibility. If you truly love someone you got to be honest with them. Kanye is all over the place but the artistry speaks for itself. Drake could never.
Here’s the thing about Drake: Everyone has their favorite Drake. Some just want straight bars, some love the melodic shit, some like the trap bangers & some like the dancehall songs. WE WILL NEVER GET AN ALBUM W/ JUST 1 OF THOSE THINGS. Honestly, the only 2 songs I wasn’t crazy about was “2 Sexy” & “Knife Talk” but I’ve seen many ppl say they loved those songs lol. I honestly thought this album was dope & I think years from now more ppl will appreciate the album more just like they did for Views.
Yeah it’s going to grow on ppl , and the sad part is that drake will never make a cohesive project because many people want bars and others want melodies , some want trap and some dance hall, that’s the only downside to being very versátil
Nobody appreciates views...he said that on an interview and now that's the status quo, I haven't heard a single person around me listen to views. And just because someone listens to 2-3 songs from a 20 something track album doesn't mean you revisited the album. Or appreciate it more. The only people going back are the actual drake fans
Man, thank you! This review is exactly how I’ve been feeling about this album. As a huge Drake fan, I was moved by the Album trailer last year that touched on his old projects. But, I guess the album title CLB should’ve been the significant tell of the direction this album was going in.
I never go on social when listening to an album for the first listen. This album is amazing in my opinion and i think people will eventually come around and like it more.
I don’t understand how everybody saying it’s mid when it just came out, drake definitely stepped it up lyrically, it definitely had a vibe to it, way more cohesive than scorpion imo & the beat transitions were hard but I definitely agree content wise he could of done better but the bars we’re definitely there
i disagree, the lyrics are the worst they’ve ever really been they are really lazy, and corny “she said she lesbian, me too” “you know i came in with that WAP” “ shawty is going legit, i’m supporting this shit”
Honestly this album is catered for younger crowd and new ears. Think about what the kids are listening to. I know we’re all true drake fans here and we love drake for his nothing was the same and impactful bars, but I think this album was for the new generation and new listeners to tune in. He did give his stans what we wanted in some tracks and it wasn’t enough but it is what it is.
I’m the demographic of this album and I hate it with a passion. Tbf I’m not a basic taste teenager who loves trap beats and anything with a mainstream rapper’s name on it. Most of the people at my school that I’ve talked about CLB with really like it and think it’s better than Donda which is just stupid to me but you geii or Edit: my dog stepped on my phone keyboard looool I was just gonna say I’m ranting but yeah you’re right it’s supposed to be radio friendly
The kids are listening to Kanye. Look at no jumpers and akademiks comments. They are all gen z young boy fans and they love Donda and hate clb. Only the older black female crowd on shaderoom and other gossipy sites love clb. The reviews across the board is that the album is boring
It’s nice to see intelligent unbiased reviews of the album in the comments and not just drake haters and Kanye Stans. Your audience says a lot about your content, keep doing your thing guys. We need you !
Yo guys I've been a drake fan for years and I never expected that out of 21 tracks I would like only 7 and I really didn't expect that Donda would be so better, I'm disappointed for someone who just won artist of the decade
@KL D There are so many videos on how influential 808s is. So go look at those. And Pop Smoke made UK drill mainstream, he never made a Jamaican or African UK drill song because that genre doesn't fucking exist. He rapped over a UK drill beat with a Jamacian/African accent.
I don’t know why but I’m unable to associate with the album. The album art killed half the vibe for me, it is nothing related to the CLB trailer or his collabs with Nike & Chrome Hearts. I was looking forward to hearts, roses, cupid and beautiful cursive writing but what we got were emojis of 12 pregnant women. Also there was no trace of production from Boi 1-da on the entire album, hope that there’s no hard feelings or beef amongst Drake and him that we don’t know of. The songs don’t have much creativity and Drake sounds lazy on most of them. I need to give it a couple of listens to understand it more closely. I am not saying that the album is a dud but for now I would rank Scorpion higher than CLB.
Boi 1-da actually has production credits on Donda ("Ok Ok" in particular). I knew the production on that song sounded familiar. Don't know if this is connected to him not being on CLB, but I just thought I would point out something I noticed today
@@therealLVCKIN thanks, I just checked and he is actually credited on that song. This pretty much explains the lacklustre production on some of CLB songs.
I’ve been a Drake fan since Thank Me Later so i’ve been through all the ups and downs w Drake. and i just wanna state my opinion and if anyone wants to have an open dialogue w me in the comments im here to discuss. CLB (in my opinion) is his best album since views. yeah sure its not perfect, but i believe its a huge step up from Scorpion and More Life, even when both are still decent projects. His pen game and rapping ability/flow has ever been this sharp and im glad he’s coming into his own. could there have been improvements? definitely. but my take away w all this the internet has been shitting on this album for the past 24 hours and i dont think its gonna stop. which bring me to this, the whole “mid” barrage of comments is exactly what happened when drake released views, and people HATED take care when it came out. i’ve seen how drake’s projects age, and with given time, i think people will see how much he’s improved since scorpion, from production, rapping ability, and cohesiveness. I personally give this a 7.5-8/10, with scorpion being a 4/10. i think this album will either age like wine or milk in the next couple years but i think it has potential to be looked at like views. and remember, comparison is the thief of enjoyment and happiness. listen w an open mind and if you genuinely dont like something, you dont gotta force it. have your own thoughts and opinions and you’ll be happy w yourself
Couldn't agree more, scores and all The internet just likes to hate, especially twitter. i'm not saying it's perfect either or people can't dislike it, but the reaction is way overblown
@@justhaku9240 it really is. and im a fan of both kanye and drake, and i give both of their albums the same score. neither of them were perfect but i enjoyed both for what they were. its literally a warzone everywhere between kanye and drake stans, both annoying as hell
@@NightOwlJa god it's annoying, why can't they just listen to both and form their own opinions instead of jumping on a bandwagon? It's ignorant to hate one because you like another I don't get it, why that's so hard for these people to understand We'll probably never know
The cudi song is most likely the only song I'm gonna go back to, I already have those other tracks. He's made that 7am bridal path song like 30 times..same topic, same flow, same type of beat
@@patv327 I mean overall, throughout the whole project. Nothing new, nothing exciting, I'm not gonna lie and say I won't play it around some women, but other than that I don't find myself listening to this around the house, in the car, or anywhere else

Every Drake album he takes no risk. Yes his formula works and he sticks to it. I just think with an artist at his level at what point does he try something different. There’s no progression with Drake from a artist stand point just consistency. By providing us the same old kind of music.
The last cohesive project Drake put out that was sonically boundary pushing was Views and maybe More Life. Ever since then he capitalises from great high budget music videos with celebrity cameos. The passion and creativity ain't there anymore cause he knows how strong his image is so no matter how lukewarm his music is, we'll always have that picture of him being a Billboard Chart Topper and Record Breaker which just plays into his hands and a few Instagram/Twitter captions maybe a beef or two are all he needs to catch hype and market himself. (That Kanye West beef was toooo much of a coincidence in my opinion) - From a Drake Fan
How do y'all only have 35k bro??? Most underrated hip hop channel on youtube no debate. Been around since beginning of 2020. Keep grinding and pushing out this amazing content❤️.
I’m late, but this album might be his top 3. It was the most concise album since nothing was the same. This will go down as a classic. As I’m riding home from college on a 2 hr ride. I can play this album & not skip one song.
@@NFRPodcast mostly the quality & production, in Donda you could feel that this album actually meant something to Kanye, you could hear it in his voice and all the work he put in, while in clb we expect to hear a top tier album from Drake, him at his best, we wanted to see what he’ll do next in this stage of his career, but this didn’t sound like the Drake we all wanted to hear, you could hear it in his voice that he doesn’t have the hunger that he once had in 2016 or even 2015, feel like it’s a loss of passion from him & not wanting to get more creative.
I love drake but man this was a let down for me due to the lack of growth. Kanye Travis and Kendrick make new sounds and content every drop. Drake can’t get away from the same formula even with the track structure. It takes away from the solid delivery because you feel like you’ve heard it all before
Drake is 34. Ye is 44. Their core fan base from Thank Me Later and College Dropout is in that age bracket today so for me, I was looking for growth from Drake. DONDA did that for me. Don’t get me wrong, sonically Drake sounds good still but we got kids, careers, bills, families, etc and Drake seems to be stuck in 2010 pleasing teens and young adults with the “high school/college problems” content. Still got love for Drizzy tho.
I was surprised you guys didn’t enjoy the album more. I thought it was drakes best project since views. And to be fair a lot of people hated on views when it first came out and now it’s arguably a classic
@Bob Marley the only reason why people say it’s trash is because they suck kanye off. It wasn’t trash it was a good album, not great not perfect but it was good
@@georgevlahos1335 whats that gotta do wit it I've had this pfp for like a decade 💀 Was anticipating CLB since he's announced it, just dropped the ball 🤦♀️
Donda and CLB comparisons are inevitable, but people forget that Kanye’s been making music for 20 fucking years and the fact that he’s still in this conversation is a testament to his musical ability. And when Kanye was the same age Drake is now he was dropping MBDTF. I’m not even a Drake hater I’ve loved some of his past albums and songs, but I don’t get how someone could listen to Donda then CLB and honestly think CLB is better. There’s a few songs on it I’ve added to my playlist, but I couldn’t listen to it back to back again like I’m still doing with Donda
After a few listens, CLB was ok but I wanted more from Drake! I didn’t feel the energy on this project and at times he sounded unmotivated. I had high expectations and was looking forward to listening Bc of how he performed on Scary Hours, Seeing Green, LNCL, and Dark Lane Demos. I enjoyed a few songs but I wanted Drake to take some risks and push his sound. It just felt like the same Drake album we’ve been hearing for a few years.
Guess I’m one of the few that really enjoyed this album. This is the first album I truly liked since NWTS. Scorpion didn’t stick with me. Neither did Views but have some songs from that album at least.
You guys are so good with these reviews! So raw and unbiased. I absolutely love the channel and the reviews. As a huge weeknd fan.....plz plz plz review his new album when it drops!!! Hopefully here in the next few months.
I compare this album to when lots of people show up to the theater for a highly anticipated movie, only to walk out wanting a refund. The studio may have gotten lots of money, but that doesn’t mean the audience enjoyed it.
At the end of the day, Kanye can do songs Drake CANNOT do. And Dake can't say the same. At the end of the day, Drake is great artist absolutely, Kanye is a creative mind.
@@checkbouncer ?? As if there isn't a well known beef/comparison going on rn. I stumbled on your page leading up to this album was as just as hype to hear it. Because of your unbiased critique I will now follow you from now on. I agree with much of what was said, but who knows this may get much better with time
Regarding Boi1da, now that I think of it, he produced the one disstrack on Donda (Ok Ok). I hope that's not suggestive of anything and him and Drake are still cool, cus as you've said they've been killing it for years.
Great Review 🔥🔥 other than the replay value being so high I agree with basically everything you guys said, I hope Drake can step it up next project because we all know he can do better
I'm actually worried about his next album because we've been waiting for a damn long time and he gave us good songs that weren't on the album, hoping it would be one of his best projects but it was very disappointing.

@@romaretaylor9953 You only live twice is a lyrical song. 7am on Bridle Path and the Remorse are dope but I can’t see myself just randomly putting those songs on to vibe to
I’m a big Kanye fan (keep that in mind) The best songs on this album are great, some slower songs definitely have potential to grow over time. But some songs were so forgettable, drake needs a change in his production team, seems like he’s releasing the same album he was 5 years ago.
He changed his production team on this and it's probably one of the biggest negatives. OZ was hyped up out the gate and didn't deliver on that hype. Boi 1 da would have made this a different album
@@victorthomas5041 To be fair OZ had some of the better tracks like Love All, Fair Trade, and No Friends in the Industry. 40 was the most disappointing to me as he seemed liked the executive producer on this album. His production on Views was way better than CLB and I feel like he made beats that sounded like stuff that would be on side B of Scorpion. This album needed some Boi-1da/T-Minus bangers to balance out how slow the album is.
