I'd love to see the Drake Sanborn mpc demo'd with the Selmer Supreme Alto! I have this mpc and agree that it's a great mpc--very powerful, in tune, and has a certain magical thing to its sound that makes it very fun to play. I tried lots of the current similar mps's out there, and this one won for me. I use it with a MK VI alto, and that works very well. I tried a Yamaha 81Z II with this mpc, but much preferred the Drake with my Mk VI, due to the fact that the Sanborn/Yamaha combination made everything a little bit too harsh.
I've tried both and liked both. For me the Super Jet had a cleaner tone, not quite as interesting as the Drake. Both are great. I ended up with the Drake, as I found it had more complexity to it's sound, which I liked.
Sounds really good on that horn. But it sounds good on other demo videos also. I think most people are not aware that Dave is really great straight ahead player also. So it´s not surprising to me that this piece has a wide spectrum of overtones.
Direct imitation? Take it easy man. If this is an imitation of a Durga, then all high baffle mouthpieces are imitations of Brilhart Level Airs and Dukoff D's.
