You got it wrong primarily because clearly you are not an artist, otherwise you would know that most artists signed to labels do not own their own master recordings. It is pretty rare in the music business for successful artist to own their own material, royalties, and rights so for Jay to mention this is definitely a staple. A lot of the artists that completely own their own stuff are snuffed out. Drake is on his way, but careful, Jay still has the crown.
