Dramatic photos show how storms filled California reservoirs

Water levels fell so low in key reservoirs during the depth of California's drought that boat docks sat on dry land and cars drove into the center of what should have been Folsom Lake. Now, 12 of California's 17 major reservoirs are filled above their historical averages for the start of spring.

@@jdos5643 I agree with you. If you have water now you should try to do everything that water can soak in the soil and only come out again through plants and trees or goes underground into the ground water level. That works in already dry areas as well so it should be like walking in the park for the rest of the world. It would also create a better foundation for organic agriculture and again a solid base for a good business. clean, green, reasonable prices and substantial. Also in California it properly could help to fight back the drought and the horrible fire. Yes water is life and a human right but water is useless when it doesn't go into us through nature 🌍🛠️😎🍚

As a resident of California and kern county I am more concerned with getting the aquifer back to normal levels as well. It’s happening but I hope they don’t stop doing it. To note it’s done by flooding segments of land with water and allowing it to seep into the ground so if you see water just sitting on a piece of property where water never was then that’s what is happening. It’s like having a bunch of little lakes everywhere and that’s how I knew the drought was official over

Im curious on why these western states that experience water shortages do not create dedicated reservoirs with holes drilled in the bottom that reach the underground aquifers so when they do experience seasons of high rain and snow they can also replenish the natural aquifers that have been being drained. Letting it run off when you dont know when its going to rain again seems like a waste. ancient people were doing this thousands of years ago... Roman cisterns are still collecting water underground and being used to this day... so why doesnt these states just create a way to replenish the aquifers that already exist?

So what plans does California have to take advantage of all this extra water, what with the Colorado River going dry. Utah has by diverting more water to the aquifer recharge zones, saving hundreds of millions of gallons of water in a way that protects from evaporation. California definitely needs to be doing something like that, as well. They should have had a system in place a long time ago to collect and store water, just like a rainy day fund. Instead of flooding, it would be amazing if they had a way to divert the extra water to prevent the flooding and save it.

Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave ? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. He is the Sublime, the Tremendous. [24:35] Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth. The similitude of His light is as a niche wherein is a lamp. The lamp is in a glass. The glass is as it were a shining star. (This lamp is) kindled from a blessed tree, an olive neither of the East nor of the West, whose oil would almost glow forth (of itself) though no fire touched it. Light upon light. Allah guideth unto His light whom He will. And Allah speaketh to mankind in allegories, for Allah is Knower of all things. [39:62] Allah is Creator of all things, and He is Guardian over all things. [39:63] His are the keys of the heavens and the earth, and they who disbelieve the revelations of Allah - such are they who are the losers. [39:64] Say (O Muhammad, to the disbelievers): Do ye bid me serve other than Allah ? O ye fools! [39:65] And verily it hath been revealed unto thee as unto those before thee (saying): If thou ascribe a partner to Allah thy work will fail and thou indeed wilt be among the losers. [39:66] Nay, but Allah must thou serve, and be among the thankful! [39:67] And they esteem not Allah as He hath the right to be esteemed, when the whole earth is His handful on the Day of Resurrection, and the heavens are rolled in His right hand. Glorified is He and High Exalted from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him). [39:68] And the trumpet is blown, and all who are in the heavens and all who are in the earth swoon away, save him whom Allah willeth. Then it is blown a second time, and behold them standing waiting! [39:69] And the earth shineth with the light of her Lord, and the Book is set up, and the prophets and the witnesses are brought, and it is judged between them with truth, and they are not wronged. [39:70] And each soul is paid in full for what it did. And He is Best Aware of what they do. [39:71] And those who disbelieve are driven unto hell in troops till, when they reach it and the gates thereof are opened, and the warders thereof say unto them: Came there not unto you messengers of your own, reciting unto you the revelations of your Lord and warning you of the meeting of this your Day ? they say: Yea, verily. But the word of doom of disbelievers is fulfilled. [39:72] It is said (unto them): Enter ye the gates of hell to dwell therein. Thus hapless is the journey’s end of the scorners. [39:73] And those who keep their duty to their Lord are driven unto the Garden in troops till, when they reach it, and the gates thereof are opened, and the warders thereof say unto them: Peace be unto you! Ye are good, so enter ye (the Garden of delight), to dwell therein; [39:74] They say: Praise be to Allah, Who hath fulfilled His promise unto us and hath made us inherit the land, sojourning in the Garden where we will! So bounteous is the wage of workers. [39:75] And thou (O Muhammad) seest the angels thronging round the Throne, hymning the praises of their Lord. And they are judged aright. And it is said: Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds! [59:22] He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible. He is the Beneficent, Merciful. [59:23] He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him). [59:24] He is Allah, the Creator, the Shaper out of naught, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. Should have used this opportunity while the land was dry to excavate earth to increase the capacity of how much water those reservoirs can hold. Would be better to try and double the capacity to meet the demand especially as the population increases.

I’d have thought that the water pressure in the deeper parts would exert some back pressure on the wall. I feel an experiment coming on 😀

Full reservoirs are a glorious gift.. Greater water storage capacity is sorely needed. Municipal systems for capturing rainwater should be a greater priority. Rainwater capture and storage systems can potentially capture milliond of gallons for municipal gardening, school irrigation, reduce city sewer costs, emergency fire department water, and for public uses. etc. Hopefully it will attract some wildlife too.
