I’ve never seen a tractor erupt into flames, usually it’s cars, vans, trucks, lorries. It was a very severe fire though. Shame

There are always critics behind keyboards. You would be amazed at the number of people standing watching a fire all assuming someone else has called the fire brigade. It happened to me on my way to Bury Fire Stn for my Saturday day shift. I saw the mill going well some distance from the main road and assumed we would be relieving the night crew but when I cycled into the yard both pumps and TTL were in the appliance room. I told the night Stn Officer and he thought I was pulling his leg until I convinced him I was serious. The bells went down just as I jumped the 2nd pump for one of the night shift. When were arrived the managing director was bouncing up and down and red in the face with anger shouting it's taken us 20 minutes to get there. Stn O Durham (RIP) asked him what time he made the phone call and the guy looks at us and says 'er well I didn't actually phone you.....but someone must have...er, surely?' Well no they didn't this firefighter was cycling into work and saw it and that was the first report. Red faces all round as the mill staff all blamed each other for not making the call. It really isn't unusual at all so don't blame the fire service as we respond as fast as humanly possible but we are always at home station waiting for YOUR particular fire. It can often happen in very busy periods that the nearest fire appliance available could be upwards of 20 plus minutes away. If you have a beef with that then have a word with your MP as the fire services resources have been cut by approx 40% and it's you that will suffer along with us poor bastards doing the work with 40% less manpower and appliances.

P.S. if the idiot driving the tractor had a working fire extinguisher on the tractor that never would have happened . a note , your brave fire bobbie lads ran the other way when good old seller field reactor caught fire from a core melt down. they had to go into movie houses and pubs and high jack men that did not know the danger and make them push melting fuel rods out of the core of an out of control reactor with poles ,with intense radiation all around them . thats a fact , they used innocent civilians because your fire bobbie lads had no balls and refused to do it. On call firefighters. They all have other jobs and have to attend the station either from home or their place of work. It can take up to four minutes for the appliance to roll so in effect their attendance time was pretty good. Unfortunately when a town has low risk categories they don't warrant a full time station as the cost would be prohibitive. It's just the way things are I'm afraid when you live in a rural area.

Take it you are from the US. In the UK, no fuse, one fire engine, job done in munites. You only need bigger hoses once you get there scratched your heads for five minute pointing at things and laying out big hoses, then everything else is on fire you you need 20 more fire engines.
