It was smart to wait inside the truck. Imagine not hitting or being hit by a vehicle, but panic and jump out of the truck just to get ran over by a car sliding on ice.
I mean, you should really take every scenario individually. Sure, this guy inside his big truck is fine to stay inside but I've seen people waiting in their cars get destroyed by out of control semis that couldn't stop so you have to weigh the consequences of both actions.
@@Getz It's kinda boring and the skip button skips 5 seconds each time so I'm sure I've missed something and don't feel like watching the full 2 mins lol.
It doesn't take that much for a car to start sliding nonstop! Do you think 47 cars were driving fast in a such weather and road condition? Even ABS wdnt do shit in this case!
@@IyadhGmati -I was watching this video and some of these cars and trucks were coming up really fast on this accident, thats why there are so many cars
What sucks with this is knowing that even IF someone managed to stop without hitting anyone, that they're sitting ducks to get hit. There's nowhere you can go that would really be safe or to actually get around it.
You head for the shoulder of the road and find the highest spot you can get to as well as the farthest area. Debris can fly over 100 yards like a missile especially when the air is thinner and colder the stuff actually has more velocity believe that or not if ya want to but it is true.
Uhm, getting out so you don't potentially get ravished by other vehicles or trucks running into the back of you. They got off lucky. Look at other videos where the tractors are severely f*cked up.
Seeing those cars pile in makes me absolutely sick to my stomach. I can only imagine being stuck and just getting hit again and again being crushed… so scary.
I’ve just seen this and there is no doubt that you didn’t have guardian angles surrounding you, your rider and your rig! I feel terrible for the people in the wreck but clearly you are a very keen, observant and smart driver! No doubt that God didn’t have his hand in this! Very smart to stay in your rig!!!
Same last year I’m trying to drive 10-15 under the limit and people are passing me going 30 more miles an hour than I am, on the highway where the lanes aren’t clear you can’t even tell where the side of the road is. People are stupid.
I think everyone should get off Tanika. She was having a melt down, and understandable so. I also think all these 'why was they going so fast " statements need to stop. It is ice, and if you have done you share of driving in it than you would know once you start sliding you go faster and you are screwed. You have no idea what it was like to come driving up on this accident as it was happening and realizing your were about to be part of it. I commend the truckers for taking off to the ditches to keep from hurting more people that was a snap decision and a well played. That is coming from an old retired professional lady trucker. Those of you who are so critical with your judgements obviously have not had enough bad shit happen to you yet. Otherwise you would be more compassionate. Oh and by the way I don't give a rat's ass about the negative comment you are fixing post regarding mine. In short HAVE A HEART !!!!
Mist Back-up we aren't either. We got 12 inches. But lol I didn't say we didn't have crashes cuz we did. But for the most part there weren't accidents on the highway cuz people were driving slow. Slower than they were in this video at least. But we still had accidents on the back roads and main roads
She makes me mad....if they can't see a pileup directly ahead of them, and can't stop when they do, why would you think there's ANYTHING you could do to stop it?
@@MrWolfSnack Yeah, in normal visibility and road conditions, not on a foggy frozen road... I'm referring to those who drive into others without slowing down, or those who try to maneuver between them at high speed despite the stationary traffic. They don't know the brakes or they have piss-juice where their brains should be.
Tanika actually thought it was safe to get out with cars speeding by at 45mph+! Tanika: “Let me fix my makeup first and then on the count of THREE we both jump!”
Does anyone know how insurance companies handle this type of wrecks? Does it all go to the very first guy who's fault was in the very first crash or each car owner would cover its own car?
No. In this case each person's insurance company is going to have to pay out for their insured. When it's this many insurance claims, then the State of Missouri increases every one in the state of Missouri policies at renewal to offset how much they had to payout and recoup some of their monies. It's a pain in the @$$. 😤
@@Raresnce Or like in wildfire situations the insurance company will get so many claims they will either go bankrupt, or deny claims to stop from going bankrupt which will leave you homeless. Many people in the last California wildfires used their last scraps of cash and bought an RV and parked it on the driveway of their ruined house and live in that. Then they get sued because its illegal to have a RV hooked up in a residential area in california. lol
I experienced this three times in two days driving to Meadville from Pittsburgh just days before this. You can't see anything in front of you. Visibility 0. What do you do? If you drive to slow someone's going to hit you. You can't pull over. Scary.
There is technically no minimum speed on the interstate highways. You should drive as slowly as you need to to. maintain control. We have often found ourselves in caravans of cars driving 15-20 mph on 35w Esp. bad from Mason City to Albert Lea.
@@domichikiz yes yes. Feels like 8° on the weather app. And there was also a real huge and bad pile up like that one. People died it was awful. Stay safe and warm. ✌🏼
What??? You're not supposed to drive 60+mph on snow covered roads?? I've been doing it wrong all this time, from now on 75mph... stupid stupid stupid stupid
The accident itself is largely due to human error, however after an accident of this magnitude the next biggest issue would be most modern cars being equipped with some form of “post crash 911 assist” so I’d imagine 20, 30 or even 40+ cars self dialing 911 within a 5 minute time span. Yes I know some will automatically contact a support center but others will go through your smart phone to contact 911 emergency line directly which will result in longer hold times for everyone else..
EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THOSE DRIVERS should get a ticket for driving too fast for conditions and have the judge give them all a fine and community service. None of those people should be out on the road.
Travelling at that speed in those conditions should invalidate any insurance claim for damage. Those idiots should have their driving licence revoked and made to take another driving test.
I wanna know since this guy is saying that he touched no body in the front but what about the back is my question like did anyone hit him from the back though?
When it is raining I see people speeding up and no lights, knowing that it is cloudy raining sometimes foggy and people just keep driving like it would be in sunny day !
If you're in a big truck and you've got a big trailer behind you the last thing you want to do is get out but if you've been turned around and you're facing traffic coming if you think you can get out and run for the sides do it and do it fast
Every, everytime, people drive too fast on snow and fog !!! Over 15 mph in these conditions, it is like driving in the night with no lights and brakes !
How about this when there’s snow, there is a very highhhhh probability of ice. SO ADAPT YOUR DRIVING TO THE CONDITIONS!!!! DONT DO 50 MPH WHEN THESE ARE THE CONDITIONS AND WE WONT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS!!!!
You do know Florida isn't snow free. Years ago Florida had snow. I wouldn't want to live in Florida when you guys do get it. Your accidents rate would go through the roof which is more dangerous in Florida then any other states who gets snow and ice regularly. I'd rather have snow and ice instead of hurricanes.
why dont they drive slow during snow? this could avoid lot of accidents. I fail to understand. In Thailand, when it rains...we r just at 40 kms or 50 max with a distance of atleast 50 feet to avoid accident.
There’s one shows a man slipping on ice narrowly avoided getting hit by two cars, he runs to side of road and another fast car crashes into where he was 😢
At 0:24 imagine the amount of kinetic energy that GMC transferred to the other already-crashed cars. If somebody did it to survive that without major injuries, that truck probably broke their bones
I hate driving in snow. I avoid it as much as possible. I had to drive through blizzards in CO, but I'm retired in KY now. Still get snow, but I don't go out in it. Now I just worry about tornados.
I mean yeah he's right about staying in the truck being safer, but if I'm able to then I'm getting out of the vehicle, on the opposite side of the pileup, and walking through the woods out of there.
