Ok that was fantastic! Absolutely inspired to start constructing something similar. I've recently fallen in love with hardware grooveboxes, but always feel like I wish I could build my own, just one more voice, a more versatile sampler, more polyphony, faster workflow, something is always missing. Now I want to build that fantasy groovebox Drambo so very much... Great stuff as always, extra likes!

This is inspiring to see how a really really dope track comes to life in a relatively simple performance, and also because it's obvious how much work goes beforehand. Tis explains why my quickly-thrown-together tracks never hits that sweet spot.. no, wait, that is actually more depressing than inspiring, lol. Great video, great track, Jakob. I would love a video on the proces up to a performance like this, as other said. The chosing and creation of sounds. The thoughts and doubts. Also, too bad den gula pjokket in the background didn't get any love this time. But happy it got some screen time. L.00 for life! :-)
Btw, I did actually have the Korg Kaossilator and also the UNO synth added to this whole setup in the beginning. They where being processed through AUM running in the background of Drambo. But I had to remove them both including AUM due to hardware limitations. I also had to exclude one track inside the Groovebox and settle for using just 7 tracks. Need a stronger iPad! 😅

Btw nice little trick using emojis to make it easyer to reconize the tracks.. I use this in many other contexts but it has never crossed my mind when making music 😊.
I’m easily distracted and so I’m always looking for ways to make stuff “pop out” in some way, shape or form. Emojis work well for that. I’ll also be looking at getting some emoji stickers so that I can use them on my MIDI controllers.
Yes Maaaan! Drambo is my number one go to for all things groove, sound design and experimentation. It's just as you said in your groove box rating list, you can really customize it to be anything you want. I started using emojis in my track names too, so fun!
It’s funny because I hated emojis back in the day, but now I can’t do without them. It’s gone so far that I’m even relying on them for when I’m being creative! 😂😊
I love the setup and the live performance, awesome work! I was wondering though, how does this compare to Loopy pro and AUM? I’m on a very tight budget, so wanna avoid buying three different daws. Thanks and God bless! 😊🙏❤️
I hope my next vid (going though the thing I built here) will spark some ideas for people. Drambo is amazing. It’s not just a modular synth. It’s also a great sequencer.

Great track man. Props for using nano control studio. I’ve gotten several controllers since it first came out but I always find myself using it in some essential way in just about all of the music I create. 😂
Dope setup and sound. Hope you can share your box so others can put it in drambo. A question: how do you see Nanostudio 2 as an alternative to drambo live jamming?
Hmm, well I do not see Nanostudio 2 as an alternative to Drambo when it comes to jamming. For me NS2 is in the same field as Cubasis, KORG Gadget and even Beatnaker 3. Yes a lot of people would completely disagree with me and they would have some good arguments to back that up. But it does not matter to me, because I view those apps as music production tools because of their design and toolset. I don’t view them as live performance tools. Drambo to me is definitely in the live jamming group and so is AUM, again that’s how I view them and that’s how I use them. And yeah, AUM and Drambo cannot even be compared to how dissimilar they are. Drambo is a modular groove box and AUM is a modular mixer. But they both lend themselves to live jamming, just in very different ways.

Very nice! I got drambo and was so excited! I also picked up a Roland MC-707 shortly after and it blew me away! The best groove box/workstation I’ve owned for simply sitting down and having fun and not being bogged down by all the hardware chores required by using hardware. 🤪 I’ve forgotten about this app and you just brought great inspiration with that jam! It sounded great! That Reece bass sounds so good! I got so frustrated with ipad music creation because “limitations” and Apple not stepping up with ram upgrade options. Thank you for all you do! You’re my favorite app reviewer because you make it fun and yet informative without the 45 min review (that drives me crazy) 🤣Anyways my A.D.D. Socially challenged brain is turning this into a 45 min comment. Last thing, is the base a preset? Or did you make it? Any suggestions on presets or patches to download for it?
Very cool. I have been trying to learn Drambo and not getting that far yet. Looking forward to the next video. I can see that Drambo is very powerful, but what does it do that can’t be achieved by combining a load of other apps together with AUM?
Optimisation! Sure you can absolutely load a lot of apps in AUM to achieve something similar. However when it comes to sequencing ... ugh ... that’s where the crutch just stands right up and slaps me in the face (weird sentence). . Since AUM isn’t a sequencer and since it was not designed for stuff like that, setting up multiple third party apps like synths, sequencer/pianoroll apps, drummachines, becomes a bothersome chore. . So eventhough there are plenty of synths I love using, I just end up not using them and I instead go for apps that have built in sequencers. This does work. But, Drambo gives you all of it in one app, one window, one interface. It gives you the the full power of a modular synth with drum and sample modules, plus it has a great step sequencer at its core too. . And, all of it has been optimised too. I couldn’t build the Groovebox in this video, using third party synths, sequencing apps, samplers and drummachines and have it running stable on my iPad Pro. But I can with Drambo. . There’s a big difference between blocking stuff together and having this one thing that does something specific (he writes while realising he also needed three MIDI controllers to run this jam).
Epic set Jakob! I noticed your other two tablets (with the spectrogram and something else ?). And wonder what they are doing and how you have that set up, do you have a video on that somewhere ?
Ah, they’re just there to make the video look good. I’m using the most basic setup. Both tablets are just using mic input for the apps. They’re picking up sound from my speakers. One of the apps (left) is an oscilloscope, the other one a is a spectrum analyser (right).
Some m times I’ll use multiple sound interfaces instead to get the audio into the extra iPads. But only when I’m doing sound design and need a proper reading. Nowadays I use AUv3 plugins in AUM when doing sound design. That way I won’t have to deal with cables and multiple sound interfaces.
@@JakobHaq ah thats awesome! good to keep it simple with that and it definitely looks awesome. ive been dabbling with IOS production with Endlesss super fun app that I dont think ive seen you cover - and currently betatesting loopy pro which is awesome and I can finally do my live performance workflow just from the tablet rather than controlling the mac which is super liberating
Yeah endless is amazing. I haven’t covered it on this channel, but I have been live-streaming it on my second channel. The new loopy is amazing. Michael has done such a good job with it. It’s going to need a lot of coverage for new users. There’s so much that can be done with it.
@@JakobHaq awesome I will ahve to check those streams out! are you in the Endlesss discord/wider community? we should jam sometime! yeah I am loving Loopy so much - its quite unstable for me right now (but I do host like 30 or 40 auvs inside it lol ) and there are a few quirks that need to be fixed (hardware midi to auv3 effects in standalone mode !!!!)... and it drains my battery on the ipad pro 11 inch 2018 even when plugged in so long sessions are a challenge .... but so powerful and in many ways much more flexible than what I was trying to do in ableton.

( so far I made her rap though, I will not have the to December. Shelf to try more . U could use filters, Eq, didt and vocoder, voice morph apps SND transpose changes. Her age to ten girl well vs Siri woman”s voice.... I know there are text to song apps, even new online ones...but, was wondering how u. An do that on IPad...in Japan, u can get vocallid app for that...for iPad...but, says I cannot in Europe store, ...Samsung can cancelled their vocalpod app, in Bandacamp a year ago in nov, which seemed so promising cool for backpacker song demo s... Yeah, MIDI CC# assignable mixer section in Cubasis would be stellar. We’ve been asking them for this since the beginning of dawn. I’m still hoping they’ll implement it some day.

It can be very hard to focus when there’s so many things one can do. I try to limit myself at times ... and it somewhat works. Try choosing just one app to use for one week and see what you can do with it. 😉
Jacob dude, what’s a good mobile (battery) audio interface for ipad Cubasis? I have the camera connector. Want to record vocals & my old analogue synths. 🙏🏻
Oh did I forget to mention something?! YES I DID... Drambo's Beta already has Wavetables included so that's coming soon and OH DAMN is this the BEST implementation of a wavetable synthesizer you've seen on iOS; The thing even TURNS regular samples into wavetables without you having to do ANYTHING. I've been saying one thing about Jim's Groove Rider 16 for a long time: buddy, GR16 NEEDS to be AUv3. Even though I love GR16 with all of my heart, I really only got into it (thankfully) because it supported wavetable synthesis (and pretty good at it too). However, the fact that is not auv3 really hinders my workflow and even though I have a lot of fun playing with it, now that Drambo has got it too I am not sure how often I'll be using my little baby GR16.... dang it, I love it man I really do, but Drambo just keeps putting everything else to shame. I remember the first time I heard someone fanboy so hard about it, I was like.... yeah, I'm sure it's gonna be "that good" as everyone claims. Only a few months later, I can totally say I was wrong. Drambo really IS the best AU of this year. Hell, it might even be the best music app on iOS ever.... I don't have that many problems claiming this as long as Hosts are not a part of the conversation. That being said, I love so many apps I'm not gonna pretend like Drambo is the best option for EVERYTHING, unless you're broke... if You're broke then it definitely is, because you probably can create just about ANYTHING that is available on the appstore JUST with Drambo. Haq, I think it's time you put some pressure on Jim so he ports GR 16 to AUv3 (and not AUv3 host as it seems he had decided to pursue - this would be the wrong move). I honestly would use it all the time if it was, but given that it's not... It might just end up being another app on my arsenal which gets replaced by Drambo *trust me, there's been many already*.
If your ipad pro from 2015 can't handle it.... How much could an ipad air 1 handle??? I bought this app and don't know now if i should return it or not, haven't used it yet with many tracks..
It all depends on what you do and how much stuff you’re filling the tracks with. I’d say, wait with your decision until you have more data basically. I’m currently working on a video where go through my Groovebox. I’ve really filled mine up with stuff, so I’ve got a heavy project here.
