This is so wholesome! Seeing everyone talk about their journey in creating manga in this challenge is very interesting! Congratulations everyone! I can't wait until one day I can tell my own story through comics!
I didn't get to finish this challenge but I'm happy that I was able to participate as much as I could and it was worth it because it helped improved my digital drawings while learning how to properly use my drawing software and tablet. I'm still figuring out a few things as I go but I feel a lot more comfortable now to draw digitally than I did before. I hope to complete this challenge next year so I can show everyone what I've improved since then. Thank you for this opportunity! It really gave me that push to take that first step to become a manga creator!
Manga May was probably one of the most important steps in my art development. I'm currently drawing my manga to submit to the Kyoto International Creators competition, something I'd never have the confidence to do had it not been for manga may!
If only finals didn't happen I could've finished it, but for me 19 comics was a lot, and I'm happy I even got that far. I hope next year things will be better
I completely missed Manga May, I didn't even know it was happening 😥 I am gonna definetely do the 31 challenges now and hopefully I will remember it for next year.
It's all good! It was mostly a Instagram thing, so it wasn't promoted super hard on here. I will definitely let people know about it more in advance next year!!
Honestly I only got 16 pages of the challenge done, but it still really pushed me to get things done. I recently finished a one-shot for a comic script and I have lots of other writing and comic projects this summer, can't wait to get them done :)
This was so much fun even tho I only did one prompt lMaO, but i'm already working on a one shot manga that I'm hoping to release this year, so i have an excuse- huhu This event is really important, I think, to aspiring manga creators because it challenges them to try new and different techniques from different kinds of manga besides shounen or their preferred type of manga. This allows for unique-looking manga art and stories that can stand out and I think because of this event, we'll see many creators create something really special true to their own vision. Thank you, Monitor, for creating this event and I look forward to participating in Manga May 2024 (hopefully I'll be free enough to do more than one prompt by then- hahaaa)
Because of you I started to write my own story for my manga/comic, right now I'm still in the storyboard process(just like how whytemanga do) I keep changing all the dialogues and the panels which takes me very long time to finish. Btw I'm doing 60 pages Edit: Forgot to say Thank you😅😊
I really wanted to participate in this challenge. I really did. Unfortunately, I had other commitments that I couldn't abandon, so that took up most of my time. Although, watching this video and seeing all these entries has helped give me a boost of confidence in my own work. I'll do my best to finish my first one-shot comic soon, and I'll see where it goes from there. While I wasn't able to participate this year, it is my full intention to do so next year.
Was the idea to draw a single page for each prompt? I definitely want to participate next year, awesome challenge! I took the advice about there never being a "good" time to start and I'm now in the middle of making my first one shot (and my third manga in total, counting the ones I made specifically for SMA). Your channel and DDmark's have been a massive encouragement, thank you so much!
The general idea was just to draw more comics in general. I allowed people to do sketches, inks, or full color entries as long as they were comics (text, panels, characters etc) The style was up to the artist as well, some people did western style comics, newspaper strips, 4koma, manga, vertical scroll webtoons, etc As long as you were TRYING to make some kind of comic, I counted it. I even allowed fancomics and doujins. I just didn't want people to draw still illustrations or "studies" of comic pages. Each day there was a "prompt" like inktober and the comic had to relate to it in some way. The expectation was a single page or a few panels. Some artists did multiple pages per day though! I'm really glad to hear you are working on your next project. Best of luck!!
This is awesome! Connecting with people along the way is just as important as creating on your own content. You grow ten times faster and it's way more fun.
This is my first time hearing of Manga May. Congrats and respect to all who participated and especially to those who completed it. The idea of this challenge is VERY intimidating, to me, and I dunno if I could do it.
It definitely isn't easy, to be honest, 31 pages in a month is a BIG ASK. Most publishers only expect like 15-20ish pages a month. Sure you can always do more, but it's not expected. The only reason this challenge asked for that much is so it would take up the entire month. I did NOT expect this many people to finish it though lol. which is why I wanted to celebrate them a bit!
Aww man the little vulnerability at the end bro humbling! Monitor is making mangakas out of everyone and he's still worried if he's made the video ok. Bro, this shit was perfect! 💪💪💪🔥🔥
This was a good challenge, and I'm going to continue trying to make comics/manga. Sadly I was only able to post like 3 things this time, but I'm looking forward to the next Manga May in 2024. Thanks for putting this together, Monitor! I'm looking forward to next year.
Will my submissions be denied if I appropriate Japanese names? I noted you said such things in a previous video detailing summer admissions. Thank you.
Nah you can do whatever you want for this art challenge. The goal is to just get people to draw more comics and manga. Sketches, inked, colored are all accepted. Western comics, manga, manwha, manhua, instagram scroll comics, vertical scroll comics, newspaper strips, 4koma etc are all accepted I think what you are referring to is when I was a reviewer for a publishers submission period. When dealing with publishers things are different
Really sorry to hear that! I completely forgot Mermay and final exams for school were around that time when I announced it. Definitely my bad there lol
Some people did! Sketches, ink, and color are all accepted to make it easier! Different types of comics were allowed as well! Some people drew a few panels and other people drew multiple pages!
Fuck ! Why this gotta come out while I'm working 😅💪💪🔥🔥😭😭😭. Eyyy more time to come back and rewatch and comment some more! 💪💪💪 Congrats everyone who joined and congratulations to my peers that joined in for all the 31 days! 💪💪💪
Respect to all that participated! Even more respect to those that finished the challenge! 🎉 Staying with the prompts day by day is part of the challenge I had trouble with. I’m still working on my pages and will post them when they are all done. The one thing I learned was planning ahead due to trying to make the pages relate to each other to tell a short story or showcase a situation. Definitely bit off more than I could chew but Im still learning from it. Lol glad you created this and everyone jumped at it together. I will see you next year for artistic revenge. @monitorcomics
This unfortunately just reminds me of popular JP industry artist Tarte doing a 100 day drawing challenge. As it turns out every picture was AI art and not even that well edited….
@@MonitorComics there is more to it AI Art is now copyrightable for creative works and well all of jp government is adopting ai believing the hype they were told. And apparently manga artist in JP who disagrees is harassed. Idk how true that last part is
Again I may not be a manga ka i still love trying to draw my own comic strips of my own I still love to read manga and comics love cartoons of all types this is inspiring love this!
I didn't submit my work, but I was determined to draw everyday, and when I compared my first page to the last one I actually improved a bit And also when I say "I'm not good enough to draw" I mean it. I can't foreshorten, draw hands, draw most shoes and feet, can't draw muscle, find it difficult to draw women, and poses are a nightmare. I also can't draw clouds, cities, and most of my clothing looks really samey I'm also having trouble with the story writing and how it's gonna unfold Im studying story writing, manga writing and my art skills PLUS the only art supplies I have are a pencil, ball point pen and an eraser. Not the best, so my work doesn't look clean But by the time I'm old enough to join Saturday am I'll probably have refined my skills
