I love the content, you're a real professional. Jack Kirby was an art giant, he deserves to live on through inspired works and people forever talking about him. Though I'm a huge Ditko fan, Jack was always the better artist in my opinion. or atleast, I think his artwork was more unique. I wouldn't' worry about the industry actually caring about the work of creators anytime soon hahahaa. all we can do is hope for a change.

Alongside Arkham Asylum, this may be visually my favourite looking graphic novel of all time. It is utterly gorgeous - there's even more than just a hint of Druillet in here I think, alongside the inherent Kirbiness, with those crazy colours and gorgeous sci-fi imagery

I just looked up Gary Conway, and I came across some pictures of him with an actress named Deanna Lund, who co-starred on 'Land of the Giants'. Anyways, they both look *very very* similar to Sue and Reed, though the show didn't come out until 1968.

Ross' works were the first time that I saw water color used in super hero illustrations. It blew my mind at the time, as it was like he was breaking some fundamental law of how super hero comics could be done. Later I also found Havok & Wolverine : Meltdown (by Simonson, Muth and Williams) and saw what this small revolution could do to comics in a later time.

Just as I recognized Russell Johnson in your design of Reed Richards for years, I immediately recognized Gary Conway as I was a big fan of Land of The Giants in syndication growing up. I think Conway is an excellent choice because it reconciles Kirby's standard physique for Reed which was retconned by John Byrne years later who couldn't justify a man like Reed having such a physique. Sue is clearly now DEANNA LUND. They both look amazing. 🤩

Definitely, Reed's stretch power was the least interesting thing about him, Reed Richards was always a wonderful character (as was Sue).I have no idea how Reed actually looks, much the same as Susan Richards, especially if you compare how they looked in FF1 to most of the stories since. Though that is the case with many characters, you have a few brush strokes to make it look like Bruce Wayne or Peter Parker or Aunt May, the reader adds the rest. Everyone will have their own view of Reed or Sue etc. Interesting about Gary Conway, doesn't seem like my Reed at all ! Superb video was ever - love these discussions of the work (which is amazing)

I am far removed from the world of comics other than the hype certain shows received in the 90s and upwards through cartoons/tv shows/movies growing up. As an artist though, I can definitely say that these universes cam help me to learn and grow in SO many ways. I am thankful that the genre exists and that so many men and women put their time into the artform.

Hello Alex, i really love your approach to realism in your comics, i too am practice how to draw realistic looking characters, but in a stylized fashion/way, artist like Tomm cocker etc are what am trying to develop my own style from. I have a problem drawing character faces from different angles and still maintain the look of the characters, same thing with body/anatomy/poses. How do you approach drawing from different angles, poses etc and still maintain the right figure of a character

I don’t know the answer to your question, but he did a video where he showed how he used clay models to get the effect he wanted. James Gurney also did a video where he showed how he did something similar when he was painting dinosaurs.

If I may offer some advice; study from life and learn the anatomy of the subject. You don't have to memorize the names of muscles but you should be able to see in your mind's eye, what is it you're trying to draw. If you can't imagine what it is, reference material can help. But the key to being competent at what you're doing is practice, practice, practice. Honestly, there's no shortcut. For most artists, it's just hard work. For the few "talented" types, _some_ things come easier but that's all. FWIW, draw everything, all the time. No matter how mundane you think it is. Each drawing is a learning experience, so don't be picky on your subject matter. Also, and this is a matter of opinion, stay away from style until you learn to draw competently. Your own style will develop as you learn to solve drawing problems. Artistic heroes are great to study from but don't fall back on someone else's style to accomplish something. You'll forever trap yourself. Learn to do things *your* way and someday people will be studying your style and techniques.

Fantastic Four and Avengers weren’t just “characters” like David Copperfield or something. They were graphic art, pop-art on steroids as Jack Kirby imagined their worlds. Filmmakers unfortunately tossed all of that out the door.
