“If you’re drawing someone thats older, than i recommend you using an xacto knife” *I don’t have an exacto knife* *uses butter knife* IT IS WHAT IT IS All jokes aside, this did really help me, skin is one of the things i struggle with the most (hair aswell), So thanks!
I don't comment that often, but this video is awesome on different levels. My parents could only afford to buy the 12 packs when I was young. Lessons like these could have been a major confidence booster. Thanks!
I found out the hard way Crayola coloring pencils are crap I literally tried to layer colors today with them and they did not blend at all I threw them out and ordered a new set of pencils.
Nothing seems to beat out hours and hours of hands on and practical experience and knowledge, using your preferred media to make art with. The media in this case being colored pencils.
Ive never liked art videos because people weren’t explaining well enough, but your channel is so different and you’ve encouraged me to start drawing again :)
My mother wanted to get into colored pencil art a few years ago but we didn't have disposable income to immediately pay for art classes for her. She found your channel and 5 years later her art is dope! Thanks =)
U r the real artist Because there is nobody other artist that i have been ever seen who share and teach their own secrets and strategies of their drawing but u r such a beautiful heart to teach what u know in drawing, everything openly and share to others too . It will really help the bigginers like me whom have no much money to spent in drawing classes . thank you sister- from my bottom heart
anatomy is like me trying how to fly.... my brain just cant take it. lol can you critique my art vid pls. it just my never improves even if i try so hard
This is incredible! I’ve had such a difficult time making skin tones. I invested for the full luminance set and want to use them well. Thank you so much! 🖤

I did this last night, and I used 3 different colored pencil sets. I’m not sure I LIKE the colors I created, but it was a good exercise. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I love watching your videos!
What an utterly brilliant tutorial. Easy for beginners like me (I’m a pastel artist, just moved over to coloured pencils). I can’t wait to try this. I have lots of pencils but no skill at layering so I truly appreciate the time you have taken to show us mere mortals how to get these effects. I’ve subbed too. 🙏🏼
She's done so many tutorials that are still good and relevant, yet this one brings out even more tips and tools and doesn't feel like a rehash. Amazing!
THIS CHANGED MY LIFE JUST NOW THANK YOU i was just thinking of buying some expensive large set of color so i can get the skin colors but i just now i realized it’s more fun to play with these colors and make that skin color. This is so helpful for a beginner like me
This is the kind of video I need! I want to get into coloured pencil work, but it can be such an expense - decent colored pencils aren't cheap where I live, and that can be extremely intimidating. I would love to see more videos like this one!!
This is quite interesting. I realize that, after having painting with lesser colors and watching challenges of limited pencils, this can be also be achieved with 4 colors; with just white and the 3 primary colors.
You’re my favorite teacher Am really upping the bar in my art with your help. The best thing about your videos is helping us to transition through mediums of various types of pencils and tools
I am not an expert with colored pencils. I've been using them just long enough to be capable of doing the basics, so I certainly don't know everything, but this is a video that tells me I REALLY have a long way to go. That's tough at my age. Excellent video. Well done, and well explained. And just a little bit depressing. I'm better with graphite than with anything else, with the exception of carving, which I can no longer do, but even there you art is at least four steps up the ladder from where I am. I didn't concentrate on drawing for most of my life. My concentration and focus were on carving, and I did put in a few years with oil for personal pleasure. Still, I've been drawing for fifty years off and on, but you make me feel like a beginner who has never seen a pencil. This is a very good thing, and it's a real pleasure to see your art, and how you create it. It's truly amazing.
Awesome!I am impressed and surprised that so few pencils can produce skin tones, and I do fairly well handling color. I must say, Polychromos are my absolute favorite colored pencils; they truly have no competitors. For fine crisp lines and for multiple layering they are the greatest. You gave us a very valuable lesson here, thank you.
What I learned is that colored pencil art requires time and many many light layers. The hardest thing for me is getting a smooth burnished looking effect, but I see here just adding and combining layer after layer has that effect. Good video lesson for a beginner. Thanks.
I really liked how she explained that we don't need a lots of varieties of colours just to create different tones . Not everyone can just buy sets of 48 or 60 or more ... Very precise and good explanation 🥰🥰🥰 Thank you
Thanks for this. I've began drawing again during lockdown for the first time in a few years & didn't want to do skin tones like we were taught in art at School. This really helped me to find a way to shade in the friend I drew. Thank you so much 🙏🏻
Wow i loved this video. I have the 100 set of Polychromos and i suffer from color overload which colors to chose for my skin. Thank you for making something simple like this! You have taught me so much about how to layer colors on top another. I’m also a professional artist and have sold many of my pieces. Thank you for this tutorial it is great for all skill levels!
That was one of the most sensible videos I’ve seen. Using the basic pencils we all start with and showing their capabilities. My medium is water colour pencils where the water disperses the final tones. It takes a bit more thinking once the paper is wet but I was extremely pleased with the knowledge you have armed me with. I’ve been sketching black on white and the colour process is enhancing. Thank you.
Thank you so much!!! I only have a limited variety of colors with my student grade colored pencils and I felt like I couldn’t do a realistic portrait with it, but you proved me wrong.
Congrats on the 1M Kirsty !!! I don't know if you remember me but I've been following you since you were at 100k you deserve a lot of good things ❤️❤️❤️ Just a quick question, are you using a smooth paper here?
Kirsty, you are absolutely the best artists with mastery multi media artists materials out there! -snd you are still so young. I am so impressed with you snd the honest sharing of your skills to the world. Keep up your beautiful art form and sharing knowledge! 😊👍🏽
So interesting Kristy this helped me a lot and I never imagined to use just a purple tone and only a few colours to create such a realistic tone of skin
@@KirstyPartridgeArt yes and thank you too i have the 12 set one i am still at high school and i love drawing i was having problems in drawing portrait and in skin tone this solve a big problem of mine thank you i always watch your videos your like a teacher to me love you
11:40 I nearly got a heartattack bc your pencil is soooo sharpened and my brain just said: it will break.. it will break. And rlly imagined it to break bc this happens sooo often with the prismacolor and I haven‘t drawn with Polychromos for pretty long🤔 I rlly have to use them again! I just use caran d‘ache and prisma :c
You explain this amazingly. It’s incredibly difficult to find a tutorial that explains as well as you do. Thank you so much for this. 😘😘 Edit: Also, I love the way you say “cooler” like “coolah”
Woah! Saw this on your Instagram story recently and have been waiting for it!! Absolutely amazing😃 You have inspired me to create my own RU-vid channel to share my art😃
You deserve subscribers in millions! Truly kind and generous of you to give so much to the art community 💖 I’m feeling inspired to start my pencil sketching again. Thank you ✨
Her skin colors:Literally the most amazing blending Mine:Poop colored moons I JUST WANNA COLOR MY OC Why don’t I have this color in my colored pencil set D:
You have blown my mind with these videos. I have avoided coloring a lot of my pictures because of skin tone and I bought a pack of Crayola skin tone colored pencils which is cool but I kind of felt like it was cheating. The one thing I do understand is that all you need is red blue yellow black and white and you can create almost any color that exists especially with paint. But I like colored pencils and I don't know how I've never come across a video that explains so easily how to create skin tone and now I'm doing it like a pro and I have to thank you for teaching me that. Anybody who isn't British I can tell you things that not only you are very pretty but it's hard not to love your accent. Which I kind of think it's funny because where you live it's not an accent but a bloke from America thinks it's super Charming.
To offer different experiences. RU-vid is great for short tips and tutorial videos. But, Patreon and my courses are designed for people that want to take their learning one step further with more in depth and real-time tutorials. 🥰
Thank you for this very informative easy to follow demonstration! Not only that you answered one of the most overlooked questions new color pencil artists need to know! So it is~ Yes graphite pencil 2H is used to sketch in the outlines to prevent that dreaded dragging the graphite into the color work! I really appreciate you sharing your techniques and knowledge with us! Joy and Blessings! I am truly psyched and will practice and learn more from you, Kristy! Thank you! 👩🦰💗👩🎨💎🌞🌹
Kirsty: Please use a circle stencil to make a perfect circle! Me: Pff! I can make a perfect circle without help. Me later: *Uses the paper to play paper toss..*
Hey Kirsty...I've learned a lot here. I'm normally working in film visual effects in Photoshop, so knowing which basic colours to add isn't a problem; but seeing your technique...even when it comes to how to hold the pencil (never thought I'd had to re-learn how to hold a pencil), your process has been enlightening. Many thanks for this.
Omg thank you so much cause everyone else was doing speed drawing and I couldn’t follow so please keep doing videos like this cause we starters need it ❤️
I usually use acrylic paint and making skin tones is super easy with paint. It's way more difficult with colored pencils. This has definitely helped me understand pencils better. I'm using a white charcoal pencils to blend the colors snd lighten up the skin if need be
The middle one could be turned into a bronze shield after you put the wrinkles on it to give it an antique look. I've never seen the technique, and im definitely going to use it. Thanks!!!
Excellent thank you. Just really simple advice and it really helps when you get confused about skin tone colours, to minimise it. Also the advice about creases - simple but very helpful.
Thank you so much for this video Kirsty 🤩 I am not a portrait artist but determined to give it a go soon! I think simplifying things will really help so I'll be coming back to this video and giving it a go!
Hi..I'm new your subscriber from Myanmar(Bumar).I'm beginners studying color pencil drawing .I really thank you for the videos you posted are so valuable to me❤❤
