again, it would have been nice to have the original character and the art they made side by side to better see how close they got, instead of having to search it on google myself. Nice video besides this
@AAhmou its pretty spot on for someone who doesn't know lore or what these characters look like which is why I want to see their reactions to seeing what the characters actually look like
That Sister of Battle is freaking sick. I’m imagining her being an Inquisitor who was formerly among the Sororitas thanks to her artificer armor and what looks like an archaeotech pistol to complement that flamer.
My only critique for the Sororitas is the necklace, it should've been the Aquila. Other than that, straight-up looks like your typical Sister. And I still hope one of these days you show them what the character actually looks like after they've done it.
I don’t think they’re warhammer Fans so I don’t think they’d know what that means. Also that symbol is copyrighted (that probably won’t matter too much but could have influenced the decision)
That Magnus piece is absolutely breathtaking, it fits so well with the Egyptian vibe he and his legion has, there's daemonhood but also distinctly a thinking person. I almost wish he was depicted more like this
Love the reverse call back to Dave boring you both with Warhammer lore last time, made me chuckle. Amazing art work as ever. And remember, heretics crave the cleansing fire of absolution!!
You guys should totally do Trazyn The Infinite and Ghazghull Mag'Uruk Thraka for your next Warhammer characters! I feel like you would have a really fun time with them! As a Warhammer fan it's really fun to see other artists branch out and find the universe. It's also really really cool to see a perspective from someone that is still learning so much about it. Your perspectives have reminded me of when I first got into the lore and it's fun to see new and unique interpretations! Keep up the awesome work!
Oh yes, Magnus and Sister Sororitas. Oh yeah, that sister came pretty damn close too, looks very good, especially the face thing, but she might have seen one at some point, so that helps. You gotta do more of these, and then also look at some of the original artwork after all so you can see how they compare and we can see your reaction to that.
You don't even imagine how cool it is for someone who knows the lore since like 15 years to see how you two reimagine the characters from the scratch, without previously seeing the design. That's super cool, because it brings some fresh air and you feel like falling into an alternative universe.
I love how detailed the Warhammer character descriptions are. Just like with part 1, it's really cool how complex and sometimes paradoxical their personalities are compared to their looks (like with the Great Unclean One). Almost makes me want to read some Warhammer stuff, but I'm not super into stories with a lot of fighting and strategy.
It's hard to avoid fighting in the books, but I'd say that "The infinite and the divine" might be something that's worth a look if you are wanting to try out a book that is different from the usual stuff from warhammer
Some of the inquisitor series by Dan Abnett are much less focussen on fighting. The Eisenhorn series starts with Xenos. Abnett is GW's best author by far.
Small thing, loved the video, but I feel like you should have included images of the actual 40k things you're referencing so that viewers unfamiliar with 40k are able to compare the two. Either way, would love to see more like this
would be cool to see you draw Magnus as described in the scene where he broke into the palace in the novel a Thousand Sons. [Excerpt: A Thousand Sons] A form pressed its way through the portal: massive, red and aflame with the burning force of its journey. It emerged into the chamber, wreathed in eldritch fire that bled away to reveal a robed being composed of many-angled light and the substance of stars. Its radiance was blinding and none could look upon its many eyes without feeling the insignificance of their own mortality. None had ever seen such a dreadful apparition, the true heart of a being so mighty that it could only beat while encased in super-engineered flesh. The Emperor alone recognised this rapturous angel, and his heart broke to see it. “Magnus,” he said. “Father,” replied Magnus. Their minds met, and in that moment of frozen connection the galaxy changed forever.
First lady should check out the 40k art named "sisters of battle" by John Blanche, anyone into goth or punk aesthetics always love his artwork. It's so sad he's had to leave Warhammer recently and retire
What could be fun for the next video is if you did characters from Games Workshop’s other properties, Warhammer Fantasy Battle, Age of Sigmar and BloodBowl, and see what you come up with. One I’d like to see you tackle, I won’t say their name, but so Dave can prepare a brief, I’ll just say Brian Blessed. 😉
As an artist who draws and sketches out space marines this put a smile on my face. Also I laughed at the magnus the red drawing because it was so good it was hilarious. Amazing work
9:00 You can tell this is a bit here. All 40k fans will always at least feign interest in another person's passions and interests so they can earn more time to talk about 40k
Before the Wolfening of Prospero, he was one of the more notably fatherly Primarchs to his Legion, and was described as a gregarious mentor to anyone who would have him as one. Just... Y'know. Demon magic.
Aside from the pure joy as a viewer to see that, I would have loved to have your own reactions and comments, as neophyte of war40K universe, to the original artwork of the characters you drew. I would love you to point out what original art doesn't fit written descriptions, or where your skills drifted and all, to reflect on how artists can make very different depictions of the same thing, and light us up about the thought process behind it. (because that's one thing I always wondered about, since Lords of the Rings bonus video, on how artists went back and forth to create the uruk hai designs Peter Jackson wanted, lol : how DOES an artist's mind work ?)
So magnus is not cyclopean. He does have one eye, yes, but he gave his other eye to stop the flesh change when he Made a pact with Tzeentch. Kinda like odin did in norse mythology
That Battle Sister redesign is great. Would be really interesting to now look at some of the original art and evolve this design with some of the key elements of canonical Sororitas - the backpack, the Imperial iconography, the 40K flamer design. Definitely leave out the silly 40K boob fleurs-de-lis, though…
It would be best to see not only the original art together with yours, but your reaction to che official models The conparison between the 2 renditions it's wat these videos are lacking
I would love to see so manay characters and troops from the 40K universe on this channel, but from the descriptions you could give of them, I would most love to see your interpretations of Gazghukul Mag Uruk Thraka, and Lord Commander Dante. P.S. also an Eversor Assassin, cos they're awesome and bonkers
Description of Inquisitor Amberley Vail from “For the Emperor,” by Sandy Mitchell Cheerful slightly whimsical young woman Hooded cloak of deepest black that blurred her outline. slim shoulders. blonde tresses, depthless blue eyes. Her face a mask of professional detachment. Elaborate ring (which conceals a needler pistol) Inquisitorial elective on the palm of her hand. (aka Inquisitorial brand, in her case it’s likely an invisible tattoo that glows when commanded) Equipped with Auspex, displacement field generator, universal translator, and bolt pistol hidden under cloak.
I just love how you take the descriptions and jump straight in with full enthusiasm. You are embracing the grim and concepts, but also the silly and over the top parts of Warhammer. Really professional and creative! Great work!
Incredible rendition of Magnus! I'm a huge 40k fan and to me your version is all the change capable in Magnus without going 100% evil daemon. Great videos, want more!
Great job as always! It's fun to see the process of starting with a description and ending up with such a cool result!! And adding Dave... always a hoot! 😂
Jill Bearup reviews armor as well, and is really entertaining to watch. If you've heard of her, it would likely be because one of her armor ranks is, "Just stab me now," for armor that is not practical and also doesn't look particularly good. (edit, thanks for the correction, @red5_skywalker)
Great video, loving these 40K ones. Your personalities shine through and you're all wonderful. Dave cracks me up too. Lots of people have said it - please please get a photo of each from Dave for you to compare to/analyse, it would be really cool and complete these videos. Finally my two picks for next time are: Belisarius Cawl and Old One Eye. Thanks for the great content!
Loving this channel, that Magnus rendition was fantastic. It is so fun seeing these characters reimagined and seeing how close you guys get! I hope you two get to see the original Games Workshop renditions of them too!
I've always wondered what would happen if you flicked Magnus' nipple horns... I would have been the first of his marines to die when he first turned up, I wouldn't have been able to hold back the laughter 😅
I still think that someone else (Jazza?) should choose someone/thing to draw and then TTT should guess, what was drawn. Or maybe Dave chooses the theme and the rest of TTT guess?
Very very nice. Great Skill and also great imagination. I really enjoyed the Video. One little thing that would make it a bit better in my opinion would be, if you would show a comparision at the end between your drawings, and the official Games Workshop Artworks, so people that might not be too familar with the Warhammer Universe could still see, how close to the original your drawings acutally are. Cheers.
What is blud talking about? Magnus always had a human face with 1 eye missing and 1 eye glowing with psychic energy. I thought he would bring up the old-old tiny model from way back when he looked closer to what they drew than to the lore. Ironic for a "lore knowing guy".
I dont think its rly a big point of contention regarding Magnus having a Cyclopian eye or not, considering he did have 2 eyes at one point in law, he lost one of his eyes while trying to put an end to the Flesh-Change. Not to mention, all official artwork of him depicts him with two eye sockets, the only time he had just the one eye was back when the Original Magnus model was a Blue skinned Cyclops, which only really shares the name, Magnus the Read, has always had two eyes, i'm not really sure why the model has it in 40K but i think it;s more of an optional nod to the original mini that predated the actual in-depth characterisation of Magnus the Red
Just as a reminder, there are 500 years between the spanish inquisition (which takes place during the renaissance) and the medieval crusader knights. Twice the time between today and the french revolution. There is about the same distance between crusaders and the spanish inquisition as there is between us and the spanish inquisition ....
"Decided to lean into that medieval look to make the character seem less Warhammer and more original, and interesting" - makes a warhammer fantasy captain with sci-fi guns - yup ;)
for the LORE fiend you got in, the word cyclopean that is used to describe magnus in many books dose just mean one eye not in the centre of the head like cyclops's, and the detailed description states where the eye should be its smooth as if an eye was never there. a classic misunderstanding of English context like the word dwarf like if someone described themselves as a dwarf I would assume they are just short suffering from a disease that made them that way and not a mythological creature said to mine like crazy have dark vision and carry more load than 2 horses, especially when other descriptions ive heard of them specifically describe them suffering from dwarfism and not being a mythological creature.
I wish they had more vague, poetic descriptions of the characters from books instead of literal descriptions. It would have left far more room for creative interpretation, and it would have been really cool to compare how unique they came out.
So I gotta say, that Sister looks rather plain, it feels robbed of all the iconography, and yes that includes the boob armor. Magnus, while I prefer the original, is definitely an interesting design. I can't remember your names, so the girl on the left, I think her art is more interesting in general.
the adepta sororitas or sisters of battle are also the result of some great malicious compliance, the church was banned from having "MEN at arms" sooo they decided to go with women instead
The only thing missing from the battle sister is the power pack on the power armour to really nail the look, but I think it was also missing from the description so cant failt the artist.
This was fun, but would have been cool to see the work you guys do compared against artwork of the characters to see how close you got and see what you think!
