I'm loving your tutorials Rob, thank you. Just a hint with opening the button holes with a seam ripper, ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS put a pin across the top of the bar. This will ensure you don't rip through the end stitches. Trust me, I've learned my lesson and it didn't matter how careful I was, I ruined quit a few garments because I didn't take the time to put a pin in.
I love this idea Rob as I have 2 small granddaughters who love megablocks & stickle bricks but hate tidying up. There is one thing I would add to make it perfect that is a roadway appliqued onto the inner bag.Boys & girls could then play driving cars around the track too.
How fun! I can see this is several sizes as a "suite" of bags for different toys -- legos, blocks, stuffed animals, and dolls. Great tutorials with plenty of skills that can be applied in other projects (sweet double eight knot). Thanks, as always.
I want to say thank you for making a DIY video on a toy bag. I got my materials and went to town making my son a Lego Bag. I was surprised to find out how easy it is to make one. Thank you for taking the video step by step to understand how it suppose to look or how to sew correctly on the material. I watch your video 3 times before I was comfortable sewing the bag. My son was happy and say, wow mom easy clean up.
Thank you. Rob, I made one last year for one grad daughter and now making another one for new grand baby's first birthday....I used most of your method, except I like grommets and missed the way you did the top tying and that will make a big difference....you really give quick and easy instructions...love your videos....THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU SHARE!
Thank you for this tutorial it had helped many times! Keep up the good sewing instructions! I am 83 hrs old! And I love to sew ,but sometimes it is hard for me to see how to do It. So I keep repeating the tutorial , so I can do It right,! Haha thanks sew!!! Much ..
I've just finished making this. The only difference I made is that when I was trying to sew the buttonholes my machine didn't like going over the previous stitching so I ironed on some backing to give the buttonholes the strength that they need, and it all went perfectly. Thank you so much, my friend's daughter (whom I made this for) is going to love it!!!
My niece has a 10 month old who has zillions of toys at my niece's home as well as my sister's home. Thinking of making two to make their clean up so much faster. Keep those tutorials coming. I watch everyone and have tried my hand at a couple.
Great project Rob.....I am gonna have to whip some of these up for the grands.....great for babies too...Even make one for myself for out anywhere with a group of small hand tools....and gotta go in a hurry....just throw them in that...and away I go....Love this. Thanks Rob... Ken
Love this video - made 4 of them for my grandkids and they think the mats are so awesome. Love Rob's tutorials - he has the best ideas and makes it easy to understand any project!
How awesome....both the project and Rob. I will be making one for my grandson, Noah. He loves cars and this would be perfect to store them in instead of a big bin!
AWESOME SAUCE tutorial...(as always) I have so many new (Under 3) nieces and nephews that will LOVE this...Christmas is coming!! This will be totally excellent!
Fold into a triangle to cut a circle, whoa! ...I'm not going to even go into how I would have killed myself trying to get that circle right by myself. Thanks for that tip! It may not seem like much, but I get so many tips from you to make things easier for my self. :)
A tip for cutting the rope put a piece of your blue tape around the rope where you want it cut. Then cut through the tape. Keeps the rope from fraying until you melt it. Make sure to remove the tape before you melt it.
I am a new sewer, although older in age. I have twin grandsons and I believe you have made it possible for me to make these for them! I think I will button hole one and grommet the other in that way I can learn two techniques. I think I will search for some material with road patterns. I also think the other viewers idea about a changing pad is a great idea!!! Thank you. I love your videos. And, yes, at times you talk a little faster than I can listen, but I can play the video over and over. I like your fast speed so much better than the forever moments waiting for someone to get to the point! I will post a photo when o find the material and get the, finished.
Where was this tutorial when I was raising my kids??? Maybe I should make one for my daughter who loves shoes. Just think, she could round them up in no time. hahaha You're really brave with that seam ripper. I take a straight pin and pin into the end of the buttonhole so the ripper can't rip through the threads. Another awesome video, Rob.
I made one for Legos but you gave me an idea for the matchbox cars. I had wanted to make a car mat but now I'm going to combine the car mat with the drawstring bag!
I recently finished two drawstring toy bags for two grandsons who have their birthday on the same day. I used cartoon-like Star Wars fabric for the older one and Thomas the Train Engine for the younger. I used the same outer fabric, so I cut out a piece of the fabric to make a patch and sewed to the outside so Mom could tell which was which from a distance. I used large grommets because I couldn't face trying to make all those button holes with my machine, and I used parachute cording. They did turn out well, I was pleased. There are two other siblings in the family, so I bought plenty of the outer fabric for all four. They will be getting theirs on their birthdays. They live out of state, so I had to mail them, but they should be receiving them today. My husband suggested making a room sized one. Now, that's a thought.
another great and funny video. I love that project!!! I would use 550 paracord. I make bracelets using 550. It holds 550 lbs and comes in many colors to match your fabric and you can even buy it at hobby lobby or online 100 ft runs about $8.50.
hay rob i rember something about button holes place a pen at just before the the end of button next to thread on the inside of thread so you wont cut threw with sizzer or seam ripper love your videos
my friend's mom made these when we were little. the only difference is she put the print on the inside and the heavy material on the outside the bag for cars had a print that looked like a road and the Barbie bag had pockets inside to hold little things like shoes and stuff. thanks for reminding me of those bags.

Super cute! And easy! However.....I'd love to see some of your free form reverse appliqué technique to make some roads on one of these! I bet you could make a crazy creative off-roading track!
Great idea. !. But my brain expounded on something. If u put a rectangular double piece of batting, or to stay circular. A double layer of batting in the center, stitch around. And u can change your baby on it. Free motion it if you would like. But ez peezie clean up. And nobody likes a mess left behind. Cool. Keep em coming!
after a visit from my grandsons, I find Lego everywhere, the box obviously isn't working so I think this may be better, although I think I will do one side as a landscape for them to build on and the other side space and stars for the younger ones who love space ships, really appreciate the videos, thank you
I love this idea but my take instead of button holes it to use grommets. Looks to me like that would be so much easier for the cord to pull through. My kids are all grown but I have 4 grand daughters.
brill idea but I've never done a button hole would it possible for you to do a step by step on how to do them many thanks and cannot wait to do another one of your projects xxx
Clair Throupe I'll definitely have to do one of those!! In the meantime, here's a tutorial that shows how to do it! Go to 17:35 in the video, that's where it begins! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y8kwHIMp7UY.html
Wouldn't the Arch be easier if a string at point and tie marking tool to end, hold/pin down at point and use string to make the angle? Think like the old metal compass from math class.
This would make a great overnight bag or a quick packing bag for that sleep over or for the adults, it could be useful for that quick beach weekend get away. Lay it out on the bed, throw in a couple bathing suits, toiletries, a couple shirts, undies, socks and shorts
Another way to handle the ends of the rope: wrap with masking tape or electrical tape first, then cut, then burn. Then remove the tape when all is cool. Also, recommend doing the burning outside if you have asthma or other breathing problems (old sailor's trick to use the tape). Or, if you have a can of tool dip, you can plasticize the ends! fun and hurts less when you step on it in the night :)
