This is a very old video and perhaps you may already be aware of this now, the issue with the old motor was most likely a dirty commentator/brushes very possible it was causing a dead spot do to the dirt, by what you described that's exactly what it sounded like of course it could also be dry motor bearing(s) as well. Hopefully this info will help in future issues with motor issues like that that particular motor could even have a bad solder joint(s) especially at the outer mounted transistor it used the motor case as a heatsink so it is very possible the solder joints cracked.
Great job restoring that deck. I had a friends RC 300 cassette deck in at my little workshop for repair, that one was made in Germany, and used 3 direct drive motors by Pabst. Dual speed dual speed deck, very nice deck. I notice you mention this deck at the end of your video ( as i am typing this )
I know this is going to be a really stupid question, but here goes. If you were to leave the original capstan motor in place in its condition and tried playing a cassette, what would happen? Would the tape play at all? Would the tape become warped around the pinch roller or capstan?
I have an RC 300. Unfortunately the Play function does not work. When you press Play, the audio head goes to the tape and after about two seconds it automatically jumps to Stop. Forwarding and rewinding works fine. Is there still hope?
@@ongede Okay, this unfortunately means there likely is a bigger problem. The cassette deck's dual capstans are both direct drive, so there are no belts that could go bad. So for some reason the capstan motors are not turning. This could be due to a problem in the control circuitry or due to a problem in the motor drive circuitry. I don't think it's the motors themselves, because it's very unlikely that those would both go bad at the same time. That's all I can say...
TomekToOn The Telefunken RC300 is an awesome machine. Entirely made in Germany (and therefore very different from this RC200 which uses a lot of parts made by Sanyo and a japanese mechanism). Direct drive, 3 heads, lots of good stuff. But as far as I know the RC300 is very rare.
Hi. I just found your video here and I have some similar and some other problems with my cassette decks. It's two RC 100, one RC200 and a HC 850 (but that one is not so important). First, I got the RC 200, but that thing did not work (I tried fixing, but I'm a car mechanic, not a hifi mechanic, unfortunately), so I bought a set of two RC100 and the HC 850 by ebay (the price was too good to be real.....) But after a day listening to wonderful tapes, the first one left me as I tried to record. It's now somehow stuck on play. The other one played first, then got slower...and slower... and I turned it off. Are you interested in helping me, maybe? Greetings from Winterberg, Germany :)
When i press Fast Forward Or Fast Rewind, nothing happens. Play works. Not even Voltage can be measured at the motor during pressing. Shoudn't be there 12 V on rewind? Or is the IC Broke?
Sorry the german brands are all gone but grundig,I miss all the selection we use to have and choices and things were built here and europe, now its all chinese or japanese or korean disguised as other brands, the quality is throw away, even 80s quality was better, just awful.
