Wow, Dreadbox nailed the OSC 2 detune knob. I love how the sensitivity of the knob changes based on how close it is to commonly used pitches. Brilliant! More synths should do stuff like that.
I've owned this synth for a few years and every time I watch this video it blows my mind about all the features I've missed. Like being able to record notes into the sequencer. I've always found the sequencer to be the weak part, because I hate programming it with the sliders. New level unlocked! Many thanks for your content, you beautiful human.
I truly hope in my heart that Dreadbox will start a new entire serie like that one, having memory patch ; from dedicated bass lines to polyphonix. Really
This machine is the best cost efficient analog ever. Excellent oscillators, fat filter, interesting interface, amazing and comprehensive effect section.
Your video came at the perfect time. My partner pre-ordered this weeks ago for my birthday... while waiting I get to watch your awesome walkthrough+review!
effects clipping happens in every synth with digital effects in my limited experience, thus proper gain staging inside of the synth itself is as necessary as gain staging a bunch of external gear correctly
Glad to see you got yours! I’ve been waiting for the “Loopop Manual” to come out. Currently working on a video series exploring the presets, looking forward to using using info in this video to start making my own. All in all, this is the most exciting synth I’ve ever added to my collection. Fits into my musical style perfectly.
I look forward to finishing ziv's vid, as loopop is aaaalwaaays the bee's knees(!), & I look forward to checkin' your insights on the typhon, j t a guts, as I've got one on its way to me from sweet, sweet greece... super grateful. yaaaaay!!
Got mine yesterday. What a melodic beast! Can't believe I haven't bought it earlier. It's perfect for techno, melodic genres and ambient. Only played with it for 1 night and have to say that it sounds just as good as my slim phatty or analog four.
Got one too 3 days ago and it’s my go to bass synth. I use it In combination with a circuit tracks and mc707. Also the sequencer is a fun addition for typhon only jamming.
Ridiculously good review!!! I ordered the Typhon a month ago with hopes it would be as half as deep as the options you’ve shown so far. As a new synth player I can’t be more excited to work out hours of ideas on this thing!
I'm sure manufacturers already know this but your fantastic reviews must lead to 100s of sales. I have personally bought three devices after watching your reviews (incuding a Typhon!)
Hi. Very great review of what I believe is an amazing machine from the wonderful folks at dreadbox! (I agree with jump mode, but it is by no means a deal breaker) Easily one of the finest mono synths available to date, in my opinion of course :) Bye.
I've been pondering various effects boxes (dispatch master pedal, mod duo x, that new poly pedal RMR reviewed) - but.... this thing is awesome... So is the subharmonicon...... Can I have a money tree?
Hooking them both with the Circuit tracks and the downloadable midi cc template makes them both next level because you can sidechain them with the samples and automate the knobs. Pretty sick. Novation has provided a template for both the MF and this.
Superb review of a fantastic sounding piece of kit. I definitely want one but I need to pay for the Polyend Tracker I've ordered first. This is next in line.
This is the review I've been waiting for! :) Amazing sound and beautiful machine all together. Dreadbox didn't disappoint. Superb review as always Ziv :)
sweeeet ideas - thankyo for showing. especially using two different step sequences to modulate CV 1 and 2 to create paraphonic sequences. and using FFM at the end on a drone style patch....so niceeee yessss
I picked one up on sale a couple days ago. Man this is such a fun box. Loving Typhon. Dude your channel is so so good and I appreciate what you do. You’ve sold me on like 5 machines so far. Need to slow down my purchases but I’ll always watch. 💙⚡️⚡️⚡️🎛🎚
So pretty much a ‘must have’. There’s none in the UK at the moment, but I’ve got my name on one arriving in October, by which time I’ll have read the manual... Can’t wait!
I just picked up mine today, lots to learn and this video is a wonderful help. Many of those built-in FX sound rather fine. Absolute bargain, I paid less than £350 (including VAT, our 20% "sales tax").
I wonder, how many of the big and also smart small players in the synthesizer-industry tried to hire this guy.. or actually did.. or on how many synths he co-worked on already🤓 #loopop: You're out of this world. SpaceKadett! This ist definatley the place to go for synth rewievs! Got my Typhon yesterday.. Love it!
Damn I'm not usually one for standalone synths (although I spend too much time watching your reviews of them anyway) this one seems pretty slick for the price. May need one just for noodling or teaching my little cousins synthesis without throwing them in front of my modular.

Best review of the Typhon! This thing's an amazing value - I'm so glad you reviewed it. Those sliders look like they have LEDs, yet i never saw them light up - i wonder if they plan to change that in future updates. I noticed they're sold out on their site (though still available at usual retailers), i hope they plan to make more.... I'd better buy one soon in case they don't :)
They had similar LED sliders on earlier Nyx units, then removed them on later ones. Pretty much every review and retail demo sample had them, but were missing when I ordered one. Ended up returning it after several of the brass knob fasteners stripped the burrs on the plastic pot shafts after a few days.
I’m super happy with this synth, I had thought i would use it for bass only but in practice it’s an excellent lead sound generator too. The effects are superb and really add hugely to the sound, especially for ambient, but also chip tune and FX. DreadBox have really excelled here!
thank you man i guess ill have to figure it out it's a great machine i was going to return it for no coast o coast device but i decided against it thank you for all great reviews
I don't think I said this in any of my comments. I really enjoy being able to control on some of the stereo fx the individual left and right, that's cool. And unique to me. Looking forward to the possible spaghetti video lol Thank's Sinevibes!
Sounds great, but the interface does not agree with me. If I want to use a lot of menu diving for great modulation options and want to use customizable fx, I can always use the Deepmind 12 and have 12 instead of 1 voice for not too much more money...
As usual a great review! I would have loved to have heard a little something played besides a single note as the parameters are changed. It's hard to get a feel of what this would sound like in actual song form
Thanks! Indeed to goal of this video is to explain what the synth does and what its core sounds are - there are already quite a few sound demos of it and I'm sure many more will come on other channels
7:48 i'm a proud typhon owner but you're spot on right there. time to dive into that section of the oscillator. ps don't mind if i sample that passage haha
firmware 2.0.1 just released! it would be much appreciated if you would do a review. BTW I really like your reviews, they are very professional, informative, in depth and clearly well thought out. Keep up the good work.
Probably a dumb question: would you deem the sound of this synth deeper and somewhat fatter than the nymphes? Or can the Nymphes do all of this equally?
glad to see it'll record sequences from an external source. was worried that I'd have to program them in with sliders! Just waiting for mine to ship it sounds great.
Perhaps user defined attack on jump from pre to control knob. Then vise versa with release. So smooth or hard depending on transitions in both directions. Perhap an additional folder per pre. Perhaps a global master toggle in master set up.
Brilliant idea, using the Transistor Radio for White Noise; a pleasant sound. I think I should multi-sample my Ham Radio equipment. Hmm ... didn’t I do that withTape Music, back in the 60’s? Maybe that’s why I’m drawn to this synth’s (Buchla type) continuous wave blend oscillator. Is there a 12-voice polyphonic version in the future?
I would have liked to have seen an expression pedal input, and at least a couple of CV inputs, all of which could be modulation sources. I've recently connected a pedal to my Korg Odyssey module, and there's something really satisfying about controlling the cut off with it, instead of just using key tracking. It feels a lot more expressive. It's interesting though. I wouldn't rule out getting one.
Del McDowell Thanks! I use MOscilloscope and MAnalyzer by a company called Melda - they’re free with some limitations in the MFreeFXBundle. Occasionaly I’ll use scopes by VCV
I’ve been tying to minimize my synth collection to just the core elements. The Deluge, Microfreak, and Typhon might take me there. Maybe a preenFM2 but maybe not even needed.
hey @loopop . i might have got this wrong , but did you say you were reversing the polarity of the VCA env. by using LFO.. id there a reason you wouldn't just use one of the MODs as an inverted envelope to the VCA? is it to save mod sources? i have the typhon btw i love it. you also said that you could send one mod to multiple destinations, does that mean 3? one more thing!! i started using the Melda osciliscope and analyzer while i design sounds and it seems like you don't get in the "turning patches to shit mode" because you have visual feedback of the amount of mangling you are doing in real time.
1. I said the on-panel filter eg depth can't go into negative territory so if you want a negative envelope you can use one of the modulators, which does have a negative mod depth. 2. You can send one mod source to as many destinations as you like (though I didn't stress test it). 3. awesome!
wait a minute... ziv, at 28:30, you said "since this has midi out..." are you suggesting running the midi out from the typhon into another synth, then running that device's audio back into the typhon's external input for processing...?!?
