The level of commitment here is astounding! Love how nerdy this kept getting. The games themselves, then the organization method, then the hidden door, then hidden sensors for escape rooms, then sports pendants….never change. This is my inspiration.
Wow Daniel that's saying a lot! Thanks! I didn't even show off where I originaly planned to put a fireman pole to zip down to the game room and have it play mario pole sounds when you get to the bottom. But the legal aspect moving the fire sprinklers became too much!
There’s like 1% ego here and 99% just being a legendary friend and host. Any jealousy I may feel is reserved for the family and friends who are lucky enough to have this person in their lives. If any of my watches have even contributed 1 cent to this, I’m glad. Some people create the world as it should be and this is a beautiful example.
You built a room for social gathering during a pandemic that seemed to never end. That takes guts. And I believe you have achieved peak jealousy from everyone in the entire board game community.😂
I almost had forgotten about that! Yes I actually moved in July of 2000 right in the middle of the pandemic and spent the first year building it out. Only just recently really able to enjoy it!
Awesome! You get a delivery you didn’t order. Delivery person says excuse me.. goes down stairs and delivers the food to someone living in the hidden theater. Straight out of an Adam Sandler movie.
This is incredible, as a home automation geek I am absolutely in love with your escape room/game room that is also a game. So cool that you’ve made your shelves and play space so inclusive and welcoming as well. Thanks for sharing!!!
Questions for the game room: 1) Where's the Gameboy Geek phone, pole, costume and Geekmobile hidden? 2) How does it feel to be be the envy of every other board game reviewer? 3) Has Oss Equis reached out to you yet for the next "Most Interesting Man in the World" commercial yet? In all honesty Dan, thanks for the tour. Loved seeing all the hard work and dedication you put in to making this truly remarkable room.
Ha Matt! 1. Actually I had a fireman pole planned and it would play the Mario Bros sound when he slides down the flag pole at the end of the level, but there are fire sprinklers in that part of the roof that would have to be moved so it makes it challenging :) 2. I don't think I'm the envy of anyone :) 3. Not yet, but I'm open to hear :)
What a fantastic basement. Wow it’s so big!!! You did a spectacular job of making it a beautiful room with tons of flexibility. I love the ability to make it a space for more than just games. The music corner, sports bar, movie theater and dance floor are simply stunning. So much room for activities!!!
I'm most impressed with the fortitude you have to be able to continue to cull games and maintain a stable sized collection. I haven't been able to master this 😭
It’s still a hard process! And I’ve certainly gotten rid of things I wish I hadn’t. But usually it goes to my Game group so if I get an itch to play it, usually it’s not far away!
I love this! I also agree with the lean towards displaying the game box “faces” out. I don’t have near as much space (not even close 😂!), but my ideal would be showing the art as much as possible and clearly see what I could play.
Was a brain fart! I had to program the word Mission_Impossible into my shortcut a million times during testing, but had a microsecond of misremembering during the video!
Your basement is bigger than my house, the amount of space American homes take up is crazy. I do wish Australian homes had the same philosophy in that regard.
@@Kirk-Dennison Well in fairness it probably didn't make it on camera as it was on the smaller shelves behind the bar in the review queue. But I wanted you to know it's down there!
Absolutely brilliant. I've been looking for an idea for a door to the game room we have in our shop. I''d been looking in to a barn door but didn't want to lose the space of the door and near the door and the swinging hidden door bookcases are set sizes. Thanks for showing everyone such a fantastic alternative.
Michael, yes originally I was going to get a normal swinging Hidden door but they all took up too much room when opened so I came up with this crazy idea!
Cool room! Whoa that extra room was bigger on the inside. Thank you for mentioning the bookcase names as I have been wondering for a couple of years where they come from. Interesting choice between the Billy and the Kallax. I have a few games that are too big to fit into that one-size space so I might do a hybrid with two ends with Billy and Kallax in the middle.
That's a CRAZY space and unbelievably cool! I do have Kallax for my big box games - I display box fronts for looks like you do, but then have the depth to store games behind them. Kinda sneaky but I can shelve way more games this way. I also have custom shelves for smaller box games. And I have a small table for gaming, but def no sports bar, disco/nightclub, hidden room theater etc. 😄
That’s cool Virginia! I also store since games behind the other ones too :) for example all the different Kingdomino games and such. It’s a sneaky trick!
Thanks Christina! It took me a while to figure out how I wanted them organized but I felt that made the most sense and wanted it to feel like a Game cafe!
Thanks Baz! Many people actually give me crap for the way I display them and tell me I could fit way more. BUt I don't want more! I actually want less :)
Thanks Scott! I still pinch myself every time I walk down there! It’s surreal to me! I’ve been playing games a ton since I was a child! This if my destiny!
Wow!!! I like my game room. It's also in the basement I have three 5x5 Kallax (I like how deep they are), two 1x4, two 2x3, one DVD shelf and I dvd shelf for the tiny epic games that pivot and is double sided for the small games. There is a table that easily sits 6 and enough room to bring one more table. But 10 people is probably my limit. I envy your room capacity. Looks amazing!
Hah, this is amazing! The house we bought recently actually has a full barn that used to be an old owners masonry workspace. It's going to take a lot of work, and probably the kids to get older, but I've got some similar goals to this, hah. Must feel amazing to have a space like this to share with people.
Yup! I programmed the name mission_impossible a hundred times testing it out to get it to work correctly. Just a brain fart while thinking of too many things while filming
Glad you liked it Lily! Good question! They are similar games, but still have a different feel due to the strategy. If you like that style of game you'll probably like both. Maybe the difference between photos / art would push you one way or the other. Keepers has a more "gamery" feel with ways of doing the opposite, but is still approachable, where Stella is the best of the Dixit series.
Awesome game room. I'm also in AZ, and as you pointed out, few homes here have basements. I've had to settle for a "flex space" in my home for my gaming room. I'm about 300+ games, but now out of space and not enough room for more shelves. If you're ever looking for another games for a board game night from a local, I'm on board for it.
Amazing room Dan. Awesome collection. I would love to stop by and play board games if I ever go that way. Love the video game stuff. My brother and I grew up playing Mario Brothers and Pac-Man in the 90s. Now my kids love playing those video games.
Yeah brain fart while filming too many things to think about at once! I had to program the find name mission_impossible s hundred times when originally setting it all up!
Wow! Very cool. You got a new subscriber from this one. Looks like you have an amazing channel here (big board game fan) and looking forward to checking the rest of it out.
Amazing room Dan. Very inspirational. I would want to go there just to meditate and play games all day. My favorite part was the bar. I think you should film more of your videos just from that bar. Also, you gave me a great gift idea with that Mario Kart game for my daughter. Anyway, congrats on the room!
Glad you enjoyed it! Last year all my Top 100 games of so time videos were done sitting right in front of the bar and next year we hope to do those again this time with Greg’s top 100!
Great game room! My wife and I moved into our home at the start of the pandemic... My must-have was a finished basement for entertaining and gaming. It's nearly done now with only some finishing touches left to complete (Art, decorate & one last Kallax (sorry!))
Love the games room and the arrangement, if you have the space i would love to have them show the box at vs stacking them... It just pulled the non gamers in... Also love the categorisation... Love the room is awesome!
