Ten percent of Americans have some Italian blood and many of them could qualify for Italian citizenship by birth. Host Kathy McCabe travels to the ancestral village of her maternal great-grandfather - Castelvtere sul Calore in the region of Campania- to trace her roots and see if she can qualify for citizenship by blood line. This has always been a place of mystery and miracles for her family. Kathy takes part in an ancient procession honoring the town’s patron saint Madonna delle Grazie. Her visit is full of surprises and the kind of magic that can only take place in Southern Italy. For more information, visit www.dreamofitaly.com/tv-show

I am binge watching all of these episodes, but this one made me cry. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. How could anyone watch your programs and not fall head over heels in love with Italy is beyond me! How will I ever choose where to visit! The options are endless, enchanting and enriching!

I've never posted a comment before on youtube but felt compelled to do so now. It brought me tears knowing your grandfather passed away knowing your mission was complete.

Miss McCabe Nargi what a joy your experience has given me. I am so touched. I am of French and Italian origin and have lived in Marche and Tuscana 20 years ago. My mother taught me my first words in Italian when I was a little girl in NYC. I had my first gnocchi in Buenos Aires with my lovely Italians. My attachment to Italy and the people of Italy have increased 3 fold after living there. I have been baptized “Italian” after “living Italian for 3 years”. After my return to NYC off and on people have noticed the Italian in my way of speaking. La mía mamá should be so proud of me. Your journey of Dream of Italy and your very touching experience in Castelvetere the town of your grand father have brought me “home”. Grazie mille 🙏

Kathy, you have become my favorite You Tube personality. Maybe it's italy, maybe it's your charm. None the less I look forward to each and every one of your videos.

Such a beautiful story. I was once told that “everyone is either an Italian or wants to become an Italian”. Having visited your country a few times, I feel it’s so true. I am studying Italian now. I hope to be able to talk to locals in Italian someday

jliu34740 thank you for your feeling for my home country italy. I was born and live near Naples in the same region Campania where castel Vetere sul calore is located. Anyway people as you are always welcomed in italy where you will find many people making you feel at home. I wish you good luck with your italian language journey. Keep on learning and you will be able to master your italian as soon as you may expect. Take care ciao

What a wonderful story to be able to return to the home of your ancestors. Very moving, in the end, I too was brought to tears. And...to be able to return with your Mother and Father. I had not seen this episode and am so glad I saw it. Beautiful!

Searching genealogy can be fun. I researched mine, family from Patti, Provincia di Messina. My mother was an Italian citizen when I was born, therefore I was able to obtain citizenship. I am so glad that I did.

What I would love is for her to do a video on Comunanza. I recently found out my great-grandparents were both born, raised, married and had first child in this amazing town in my book. Has played a fascinating part in my family history.

Kathy. My descendants are from the same town and I believe we may be related. On the document was the name Matteis.( my paternal family name) Also we have Sullo family. I was able to see my family, many members in your episode. We share similar immigration stories as well. All very interesting. I was there in 2016 for the first and only time. We sent our parents to Italy many years ago and when in Naples my dad found his family. That was over 35 years ago, we then found many family there and in Canada. We should chat sometime. I have some cool videos and got to walk in a procession in May. Not the big one but same idea. I'm happy for you and your mom and dad. My dad was so happy his children got to see where are ancestors are from. He lived to be 101. He was bi-lingual so could communicate. Thank you. Helen

Mine too! I am in the process of researching and gathering documents right now...my great grandfather came here from Castelvetere in 1910.... gave birth to my grandfather in 1921 in America... but wasn't naturalized until 1932 so we qualify for dual citizenship! Crazy to see this video! If you have any advice for me I'd love to chat too

It's interesting about the dual citizenship. My mother was officially Italian ... my dad only an Italian descendant.

She seems to have a pathway to full citizenship by filing a 1948 case in Italy. The Italian government has been sued successfully because the 1948 law discriminates against women. Thus, the government now recognizes in practice that Italian citizenship can be handed down by Italian women to their children who were born before 1948.
