Unfortunately, it is going to be over soon 😢 But, you can still get tickets for the farewell tour, Im going with my dad to see them for the first and unfortunately last time in January 2025
Such a superb and deep song to have been written by such a young man. For my money this tune goes in the Top 20 Classic Rock and Roll Songs of All Time. So good, and so poignant.
It came to Steven one night, he woke up Joe and the finished it in a heartbeat. Some songs are destined to be written, even ones I don’t like( I do love Dream On)
This was at the end of Aerosmiths first era. They were compleley strung out on drugs and partying during this time, and it shows in this performance. It was a blessing that they found their way to sobriety in the 80s (relativiely speaking), so their greatness could be truely appreciated by all.
I remember hearing a story about the Midnight Special from Aerosmith. The taping was actually done at 11am our time so Steven and Joe and the band were completely out of their element and I’m pretty sure they tried to get drunk at 10 am to help with the nerves😂😂😂😂
Excellent video quality for a TV broadcast from nearly 50 years ago 😳!! Time Flies By...Thanks 🙏Midnight Special for resurrecting these (restored) archived TV shows!!
I never saw much of this kind of stuff back in the day because I was always out partying with my friends, and not home watching TV. I did see Aerosmith in 1976 at the Warehouse in New Orleans. That was the only time I would get to see band perform.
Same here. I never knew this show existed (or any show on Friday or Saturday nights🤣). Being an ROSmth fiend , Joe Perry essenstially forcing me to finally take up guitar and growing up in their turf, I was lucky to see them or the Joe Perry Project over 40 times before I was 22 . I lucked out.!
I remember staying up late to watch the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack! I got to expand my musical horizons by seeing more than just ONE GENRE of music and ALL OF THEM were THE BOMB as we used to say!❤❤❤
Then saw The Joe Perry Project countless times starting about 1981- unreal shows in small venues for cheap tickets. You know if you were there- you were deaf until the end of the week!
I was watching the show that night, it was the first time I was introduced to Aerosmith. My music world changed forevermore after seeing them sing Dream On and Train Kept a Rolling on this show! 🤘🏻♥️✨🎤🎶
@@redbarchetta8782 there are more consistently better rock singers, I said that his performance of this song is one the best rock vocals ever. Difference.
guitar interplay during clean parts is beautiful. Brad Whitford is the star of this, all these years and I never realized he played lead on this extremely iconic rock track.
I saw Aerosmith in 1976, and I had taken my beautiful girlfriend I had at the time. She ended up going back stage with a few other beautiful chicks, and that was the last time I ever seen her. I have no idea where she went, or where she is to this day.
Sorry bro' Im sure she's somewhere out there, but my guess is she ended up in the groupie train. After that probably bounced around witht the band(s) until she was used up or they got fresh recruits. The debauchery of those days was both greek and tragic for "beautiful" women as their self worth was mostly tied up in their looks and most of em just wanted to say they got with whomever back then. And Smith was at the top of that shit pile.
1974. Oh do I remember that summer. It wasn't long after "Get Your Wings" was released and we listened to it over and over and over and over. Then in April of 75 Toys in the Attic was released. It hit the stores by the weekend so she bought for a party we had. We played it cover to cover the entire night. Those were the days...
I'd heard of how good The Midnight Special and how special it was/is, in the UK we had The Old Grey Whistle Test with "Whispering Bob Harris" (among others) and that used to be my go to for listening to classic tracks and now finally discovering MS I am going to so enjoy listening to these tracks! Why does work get in the way of having a good life?
I like the rawness of this. Heartfelt. Not over produced. Tyler's voice would get even raspier and more nicely burnished down the road, but its nice seeing them so young. They sound great
Cool...I was only 11 when this came out, but I remember this when it came out in 73...70s hard rock is about all I've ever listened to....the best music ever...
@@A_Final_Hit but considering the material they’ve put out do you think Aerosmith get the recognition they deserve? Huge worldwide band but still underrated for what they’ve done and the musical proficiency they bring to a studio
Used to buy these cheap compilation cassettes at the local drug store as a kid, you didn't get a lot of new music in that back of nowhere. They were mostly pretty bad but one track on one of them was Dream On. Years later I saw them on the Permanent Vacation tour and they did this song, damn they were good, one of the best bands I saw live.
This is 2 years before it became a national hit. Of course, if you were in the New England area at the time, which I was, you were hearing it on the radio a few years before everyone else.
they really looked like rock stars on this video,,, they young and a glamour or something Hollywood gloss cant explain the vibe,,,, it was colorful music ,,,
I never thought that Steven Tyler sang this, only because his voice sounds so different now. I was convinced that some unknown singer, a studio worker etc with raw talent sang these vocals, and the band was messing with everyone telling them it was Steve. Seeing is believing.
How did they keep their image so consistent between then and today? They haven’t changed at all, and that’s their brand. How, though? How did they keep this kind of discipline?
"Surprised that Brad was playing lead on this!" Brad plays a lot of famous Aerosmith solos (Last Child, back In The Saddle, Kings and Queens, Home Tonight.....Dream On....), just never gets the credit he's due. From a technical standpoint, a much, much better guitarist than Joe.
Something happened to Joe for a period of time. Not sure if it was drugs or what, but that left Brad in charge of solos on a couple of albums. My guess is that Joe's nose get bent out of shape when folks realized Brad was the better player, and began to amass his own fans, me being one of them!
Never mind the band… They’ve got the shit down… But Steven Tyler as a lead singer, had a lot of work to do in order to get to where he is today! I’m not taking anything away from the men don’t get me wrong… But here, you can hear how young he is Never mind how young, how vulnerable he is… All in all together he became an amazing singer, songwriter, and performer for all of us in every imaginable venue throughout the years!
