32 years to this day, we signed our first ever record contact with Mechanic Records! One of our first singles released was 'Afterlife', check out this live performance from 'Score' recorded in 2006!
People talks about the technique and difficulty of another DT songs but Afterlife is so overlooked and underrated. One of my favs Petrucci's solos and Bass Lines
their entire debut is underrated. It was absolutely mind-blowing when it was released and bridged the gap between the mid-late 80's wave of prog metal (WatchTower, Fates Warning, Sieges Even, Mekong Delta, Crimson Glory, Heir Apparent etc.) and prog rock like Rush and Marillion more than any other album back then.
This is the Dream Theatre song I show people who don't know Dream Theatre. It's accessible musically yet showcases their Supreme musicality. The John/Jordan solo is phenomenal.
I was in the audience that day, FYI, this is heavily overdubbed. Petrucci's guitar didn't work halfway in the first song, and a lot of other stuff. They are a fantastic band, but since 2000 or so they started heavily overdubbing their live releases. Listen to fan videos of The Astonishing, that's a more realistic assessment of their live performances.
rumborak Yea, because some dudes IPhone recording from half way into the crowd is obviously going to pick up the “real audio” from a live performance, and not the cameras set up on stage to record each musician separately for clearer audio.
Why in the purple fck would anyone care what Doug Helvering thinks about anything? Typical lazy "reaction" oriented RU-vidr, offering banal commentaries on other people's material, and never making anything of his own.
I LOVE this song!! One of my favourites!! But it has something special...i do not know why...but I get emotional every time I hear it!! Thanks a lot Dream Theater!!
4:39 I always thought Petrucci was like: "I'm so good, it hurts", until someone said that there was a sound failure in the concert during that solo, lol
I touched with one Who made me run Away from my own soul In this world with its Many illusions We are moving like mice through a Maze And now I find What's left behind Has served to make me whole Full of doubt, deception, and delusion Seeking purpose to all earthly days I search within Beneath a skin That bears both pleasure and pain In a world full of constant confusion I will not be a par to the craze In the Afterlife Will dark be bright? Will cold be warm? Will the day have no night? In the Afterlife? Will the blind have sight? In the Afterlife Behind closed eyes Some comfort lies In knowing the truth never spoken Through this world with us Hidden conclusion We'll keep moving like mice through A maze In the Afterlife Will dark be bright? Will cold be warm? Will the day have no night? In the Afterlife? Will the blind have sight? In the Afterlife In the Afterlife Will dark be bright? Will cold be warm? Will the day have no night? In the Afterlife? Will the blind have sight? In the Afterlife
Very tastfully drumming in this song, hè had a good control during this one, i like also the arpeggio’s in the guitar starling at 4.17, very good!, the singer is forcing his voice during the high notes that hè wants to reached, the bass is and keys are fenomenal!
I saw Dream Theater on this tour! It was absolutely awesome! And I will never forget it. I miss you guys! Can't wait to see you live once again! Long time fan since '93!

I will always kick myself for missing the LA show about 10 years ago where they did the entire When Dream and Day Unite CD. I was in San Diego to see another band in Mexico that night and then DT in San Diego the next night. It was the first time I had ever missed an LA show of DT.
@@AtomizedSound I'd say just ''metal'', because other bands are really good, even bigger than DT, but musically speaking, none have achieved that level. Again, please, prove me wrong.
@@theovlach Nah, better than the mangini albums IMO, arguably more solid than Black Clouds or Falling. When compared to its contemporaries, what Yngwie was doing with Alcatrazz, Extreme, Vai, Nitro, etc. Its a very solid late 80's shred album. Dominici's voice sounds perfectly in line with Jeff Scott Soto and others of that era. It has definitely aged and the production is lacking, but there isn't a bad song on it.
@@SalvoVecchioGuitar I just realized how harsh this comment was lmao, my bad. I re-read your comment, I didn't read the phrase "should" and 'moment". I love Kevin Moore, don't get me wrong. I also love Jordan too.
I remember playing this song on playstation 'guitar hero', JP short hair, and MP on drums. Ohh that's old memory.. Best formation ever for every songs and stage act 🤟🔥🇲🇨
