For this album they rented a cabin in some solitary place and turned it into a studio, they wrote and recorded the album there. The last section of the song that you were wondering what it was, it is them as a full band playing the song live in that cabin as a part of the writing process.

fun fact, that last part of the song is actually the band in their recording cabin, just jamming. This song came from that jam session, and they put that in there, and i think thats amazing

The way I interpret it is this: Most of the song is about a couple on the verge of breaking up, with the singer pleading "don't leave me now." It fades away, but then the sound at the end sounds to ME reminiscent of church bells, that the woman being sung to reconsidered, and stayed with him.

I'm not sure which DT songs you've reacted to, but maybe check out "Take the Time" from Images & Words. (Far less metal, much more prog)

I'm surprised you did this song. This is probably the only decent song on that record lol. For more Dream Theater, you should check out In The Presence Of Enemies. And just like what you're doing with Tool, you should go through the entire Images And Words, Awake, and Metropolis Part 2, and Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence albums, which are arguably their best albums.

Bro, not to be a dick or anything, but distance over time is one of their best records ever. Not just Mike mangini era, but ever. If you don't appreciate this album, you don't know Dream Theater at all
