I agree completely. That album, in my opinion, was the last truly epically great thing the band has done. Just heard the new song the other day and it sounded good. I’ve stuck with them through the years, but this was the last album that totally blew me away.
"Man, that was insane!" 🤣 That pretty much sums up the entire song. For non musicians, this song is crazy. For us musicians in the know, this song is INSANE. You have no idea how many hours of practice it takes to get this proficient at your instrument. Thousands of hours and YEARS of study. These guys are the real deal. Great reaction as usual, Jamel! 👌
Thank you Jamel..Dream Theater is my favourite progressive metal band. These boys are true masters. And keep em reactions coming. Love them... (Cheers from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬)
@@scottlaughlin9897 , same sentiments here. If someone says they've never heard of them, I'd understand. Maybe they are too stuck on another subgenre. But to say you dont like 'em, thats inconceivable. DT plays music of the gods. How can a mere mortal dont fall in love with their music? 🤣😂😂
108 according to their official fan page. Not the easiest song of theirs to listen to, particularly for the uninitiated, but certainly the most complex.
In 1992, Dream Theater had the track 'Metropolis Pt. 1'... In 1999, they decided to make 'Metropolis Pt. 2' an entire concept album titled 'Scenes from a memory'... based on the theme of Pt. 1. "Dance of eternity" is an instrumental that fused a number of themes from the 'Metropolis' saga (the 2nd track intro of the album and 'Dance of eternity' share the same one as 'Metropolis Pt. 1') It is literally 1 of their most technically challenging tracks to pull off live. When drummer Mike Mangini auditioned for Dream Theater in 2010, he had to play "Dance of eternity"... here u see him play it in concert🤘🤘🔥 "Breaking the 4th wall" was this concert DVD recorded in 2014 on that tour, when Dream Theater played Berkeley, where 3 of their founding members formed Majesty at music school back in the 80's... They performed that show w/ the Berkeley School of Music orchestra⚡🔥
If you continue doing complete album reactions, the next album you should react to is "Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2 Scenes From A Memory." It is my favorite album of all time, and also my favorite concept album. Absolute perfection.
I loved your reaction when the song ended haha just can't even put into words what you listened to. I listened to this for the first time probably back in 2010 and I still am amazed humans made this let alone play it.
You should do a reaction to 'the spirit carries on' or the live version of 'six degrees of inner turbulance' 40mins of utter brilliance from Score the 20th anniversary dvd
Funny you talked about life, death, etc because the album this is from is about life, death and rebirth. Maybe their best album ever, Metropolis Part II.
Fates Warning - The Light and Shade of Things. The former Dream Theater drummer said if it weren't for Fates Warning, Dream Theater may never have been, or words to that effect.
Another progressive metal band that is very unique is Mastodon. Their songs "Stargasm", "Roots Remain", "Cold Dark Place, and "The Hunter" are all amazing. "The Hunter" is also a touching song bc it is about the death of the guitarists brother. Anything off of their emperor of sand album is amazing as well, and they have a 12 part documentary about how the album is about cancer and tragedies in the band member's lives. You should check them out, Jamal
First song I ever heard from them was “Pull Me Under”, a totally bad ass tune - and I was hooked. They are all masters of their craft… bringin’ the thunder.
Now you've finally arrived at my favorite music genre, progressive metal! Actually, i looked backwards and saw that you've reacted to some Dream Theater songs about a year ago. You know what I'm watching next!
Hey brother, I love your channel! There's a Japanese metal band called Unlucky Morpheus that covers this song. It's actually an instrumental side project of the band. There's a live version where the violinist opens with Van Halen's Eruption, then they go into the Dream Theater song 🤘😊🤘
Great to see you reacting to my favourite band. Dream Theater have a lot of technical chops fests, but they also have a lot of songs with melodic solos and catchy vocal melodies. One of my favourites for a bit of everything is "Breaking All Illusions". I recommend the live video, from Live at the Boston Opera House..
This whole album is a sequel to a song called Metropolis pt 1 (from the album Images & Words). And this song in particular is filled with melodies, themes and riffs from that original song. Basically it's just a more complicated instrumental version of the track. Many people seem to love Metropolis pt. 2 but I prefer the original one by far.
Can' t wait to see Your 😮 reaction to Dream Theater slower songs. They have some slow but kill with radio-friendly feeling songs like Solitary Shell, Another Day, Forsaken, etc.
Some may miss this, but count the number of tuning pegs / strings on the bass and guitar. Not your "typical" musicians in this band - to the keys, drums and vocals also.
I don't know if you've gone on to listen to more of this band, but, they are highly versatile, with many, many forms of songs. I would suggest a few different style songs in the following, if you may care to listen to them just personally, or make a video or two with them: The Count of Tuscany, The Best of Times, Anna Lee, Take Away My Pain, Lifting Shadows Off a Dream, Six O'Clock, In The Name of God, Solitary Shell, Disappear, Blind Faith and Octavarium. There are a few softer ones in there, a couple mainstream style songs, and a couple heavier ones, like the ones you've heard too. Just figured I'd offer some names, in case you may want some pre-sorted for a few different styles. This band is crazy. XD
Jamel ! I see you have never reacted to Norah Jones (or I cannot find any) ! Here’s a few I’ve also sent to Rob Squad Reacts: “Turn Me On” “Come Away with Me” “Don’t Know Why” “Cold Cold Heart” (She took Hank Sr.’s song and made it her own!) This gal can sing. Soooo smooth. Thanks for all of your videos. You are doing God’s work, bringing folks together. Thank you for influencing others as well. ✌️sir.
I’ve always felt that they should not end on dancing of eternity but on one last time live (the next song on the album). Otherwise it can come of as a bit dry for those who don’t know the source melodies, the beginning overture 1928 or metropolis pt 1 really well.
You have to check out the cover from Unlucky Morpheus too. The keyboard part is played by a violin. Unlucky Morpheus is awesome anyway. "Angreifer" live would be my next tip.
Thanks Jamal! These guys are all Master Musicians at the top of their game! My introduction to Dream Theater was PULL ME UNDER and OMG is their catalog f-ing amazing! But John Petrucci is a wizard with a guitar and Mike Portnoy is a beast on the drums! Second only to the Professor himself, Neill Peart! Love this? Liquid Tension Experiment is Dream Theater without lyrics. The four main musicians from DT, Rudess, Petrucci, Portnoy and Myung have so much spare time and music lying around they had to form another band to be able to express it.... And Mike Portnoy has another side project Sons of Apollo!! And their stuff ROCKS!! Try SOA - GOD OF THE SUN. You won't be disappointed...
This performance is Mike Mangini not Portnoy. I love Mangini's playing but he just doesn't have the fire that Portnoy did and DT suffers as a result. Their music since he left just feels lack luster to me. It's a shame as they used to be one of my top e favorite bands.
@@Easy_Skanking thanks for the update! I'm not so familiar (yet) with their lineup that I could pick Portnoy out of a lineup (he changes his appearance so frequently). I'm working my way through their discography and can't seem to get past Metropolis..... Such a masterpiece. And Images and Words, such a great cross-section of their earlier works.
@@josephbishop3590 I hope you enjoy your prog metal journey! Be sure to check out the side project Liquid Tension Experiment. It's instrumental with Portnoy, John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess from Dream Theater. On bass and Chapman Stick is the legendary Tony Levin from King Crimson and Peter Gabriel's band. There are some crazy performances on their 3 albums.
A humble request from your brand new describer all the way from Finland: I would love to see and hear you reacting to a song "Silver Peacock" by a british Prog-Rock band called Beggars Opera. It's such a Fabulous tune! 😍💞🙏💎
If you haven't listened/reacted to it yet, Dream Theater's "Fatal Tragedy" is my favorite song of theirs...all of their songs (at least, the ones with lyrics) tell some kind of story. Please listen to "Fatal Tragedy"!
Please check out early Genesis. Genesis prior to 1975 was lead by Peter Gabriel and put some mind blowing progressive rock music. Gabriel quit the band in 1975 and that was the end of great Genesis but they were once great. Check out The Musical Box by Genesis.
Accidently came across you a week ago when I was wanting to watch some Weird Al (surprised you haven't done Weird Al CNR) If you want to see some wild guitar playing check out Joe Satriani - Midnight playing it LIVE you will be blown away!!!
Day, idk in the hundreds, begging for “directly from my heart to you” little Richard cover by Frank Zappa. No ones done it. I’ve asked for over a year. I’ll fall over and die once it’s finally reacted to.
If you are looking for a band you have never heard that doesn't seem to have any blocking issues with the other reactors out there, try the Canadian Bluegrass band The Dead South. Here are some links to a few of their songs. Their most successful video has 267 million views on RU-vid and is called "In Hell I'll be in good company". m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-B9FzVhw8_bY.html One of my personal favorites of their's is "The Recap" ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-c931dQ2UnNA.html Then there is "That Bastard Son" with a very memorable chorus. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i95sEX1YBlA.html And, amazingly, all these great songs are all off only their first album. That whole album is solid.
If you like dream theater try liquid tension experiment. It's the john jordan and Mike from dream theater plus Tony Levin from king crimson and they make some crazy shit
NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT DREAM THEATER MUSIC ESPECIALLY IT'S NOT REALLY A RADIO F.M. OR A.M. STATION MUSIC I KNOW IT FROM THE AMAZING DRUMMER "M!KE PORTNOY" THE ORIGINAL DRUMMER BEFORE THAT YOU SHOULD CHECK OUT SOME OLDER VIDEOS GREAT REACTION THANKS JAMEL_AKA_JAMAL ✌🏼& LO💚E MY BROTHER
Cheers from Portugal Jamel. I would like to let you a request to react to more Gojira. I know that you already listen to "The heaviest matter of the universe" (probably not the best first song from them to you to react, ALTHOUGH it's an amazing song!!), but PLEEEASE try to "listen" to others musics on studio version first, just to listen well to all of the instruments (they are genius) and to the (deep) lyrics. Gonna let you some music titles: Flying Whales, Born in Winter, Silvera, L'Enfant Sauvage, Stranded, The Gift of Guilt, Born for one Thing, Amazonia. I know that you gonna love them. Peace brother.
