Dream Theater fans UNITE!!!!!!! lol Love you guys!! With or without Portnoy these guys are absolutely one of the best bands of all time. I like the new stuff just as much as the old stuff. Distance over Time is amazing, Systematic Chaos is awesome. I literally listen to DT every day.
I really do enjoy this band. They first caught my attention when chunks of Metropolis Part 2 were used throughout the American soundtrack for the Dragon Ball Z special The History of Trunks. I've checked out quite a few of their songs, but nowhere near every single thing they've ever done. Maybe someday I will have heard their entire catalogue of music. I'm sure I'll like a lot of it; I know I probably won't dig everything, but that's fine. As for Portnoy versus Mangini, I honestly have no preference. Both are excellent drummers in their own right, and both have blown me away with their work behind the kit. I would love to attend a DT concert at some point... who knows, maybe I'll be able to make that happen one of these days. Here's hoping lol.
I am John Petrucci, of Dream Theater, I have something like 600 planes jets and heliocopters stashed around the world. I need to collect them, before I break Victoria, from Scenes from a memory 2, out of her glass prison. Would you like to get a free plane or jet or heliocopter? I will teach you to fly. All I need is pilots to help me collect the planes, heliocopters and Jets from around the world. I am giving most of them away for free. But I will need atleast 1 Jet, to make sure, Victoria, can get her revenge on David Jonathan Taylor, after I break her out of her glass prison. Joey Jordinson was the witness, that witnessed me attach her spirit to glass. He commited suicide last year, because I still hadn't gotten a body to replace Victoria's body, when David blew my sled out of the sky, with a jet and a missle, that caused her to disperse her body, to form a protective shield, to protect Joey and myself. David has tried to kill me at least 100 times since then. Succeeding several times, before I was revived in the hospital later. Would you like to help?

I read the original comics ~5 times, and then I heard this song. My god, DT does not disappoint. As of today, I've probably listened to this song 30 times, if not more. It's just SO GOOD. Sadly the writer of the comics stopped a "few" years ago, so there's not gonna be a part 3. :-/
@איתן סיני It's based on Korean manhwa Priest(which in turn was inspired by a 90s FPS game called Blood). There are even literal quotes in the lyrics "Don't try to find them, they will be coming for you", etc. And basically it tells the whole story of the Priest's protagonist. I highly recommend to check it if you have a chance.
Personally I feel like Systematic Chaos is a bit underrated, I know it's cliché to say that but I don't hear people talking about this album much when discussing DT
Completely agree! I never hear it mentioned in top fives of people's lists, but for me, it's a top three DT album. My list is always changing, but Systematic Chaos has never strayed from the top three. An absolute masterpiece if you ask me.
@@minoctavari6541 The Hype surronding this release was Real and it is actually on top of my DT favourite releases next to SDOIT and Awake . very underated . i really was a bit disappointed with BCSL compared to SC . but anyway that record was great . i am still sure that DT will not put a Poor album ever even if they intend too . these guys are too gifted
disagree. ITPOE pt 1 and 2 are insanely good.. the rest of the album is pretty meh to me. forsaken is cringe, constant motion.. well might as well justs listen to a metallica song.. dark eternal night is alright, again metallica.. reptentance is great.. but i'd rather listen to an opeth song since that's basically what it is.. phrophets of war, good song, sounds like muse..
ITPOE is great... The rest of the album is passable. Minister of Lost Souls is my guilty pleasure. Apart from it, the rest of the songs are enjoyable. I would listen to them in my free time, but I would try to form an opinion on them first.
I totally agree. Systematic Chaos was the album that got me fully into DT. Before SC, I only ever listened to Metropolis Pt 1 (just that 1 song). I bought the CD because they were new to Roadrunner Records and I was a big metal head. Now I'm a die hard Dream Theater fan. Imagine becoming a fan in 2007 after listening to Systematic Chaos, and then discovering ALL of their previous albums in the following years. That was me. For like all of 2007-2009. And then Black Clouds came out and that was all I listened to. That and Opeth. And BTBAM.
I came back after Mike P news...what a masterpiece. is the analogue to the Alien, imo. Mike M is technically better, but Mike P is master in writing epic, groovy and iconic songs.
F•cking best opening in the world , I remember listening to this song when I was 13 years old, about a year ago I bought my first Musicman JP, a total dream to play this song with that guitar
I am new to Dream Theater, I have been a RUSH fan for 47 years. I heard Mike Portnoy speaking about his influence from Neil Peart and it made me curious! What do y’all recommend? Peace
Think it's a warrior falling from his faith in death, serving a dark master for a chance at revenge and renewed life; then turning around and betraying that evil master to save humanity and his soul
For me I listened to this song so many years and it always makes me reflect...I think it's a story of an individual who's been suffering in life continuously and resentment started to leak into his soul.. The song continues discussing how anger and resentment (the idea of being a jerk or a hateful person) to take over and forcing him to abandon his values and morales.
Mike Portnoy wasn’t fired from Avenged Sevenfold, he was only ever on one album 13 years ago and he left because he was just there temporarily to help them make Nightmare and tour after The Rev died.
I was literally thinking the same thing. I was just setting up sound in my home recording studio and I wanted to hear some music whilst setting up the sound. And I was like, damn... If I could only ever write as well as these guys have. Dream Theater is absolutely amazing and in my top 5 favorite bands. I can listen to every album, start to finish, and it all sounds amazing, even for the millionth time. Love DT!!!!!!
Part 1 of this song is just so perfectly crafted. There's not a single bad moment. Part 2 is just an amazing continuation of the theme of the song. One of their greatest epics.
Chuck Schuldiner is Death, I am Death. I am also John Petrucci. Of Dream Theater. But I took the name Jonathan David Taylor, after David Jonathan Taylor, shot my sled out of the sky with a missle from a jet, so i stole his planes, jets and heliocopters and stashed them around the world. Do you know any pilots that might want free planes, jets or heliocopters, so I can start collecting them from around the world? I took the name, so when I free Victoria from the glass prison she is in, she will know who to take her revenge on for blowing my sled out of the sky with a missle. Now I am trying to collect the planes, Jets and heliocopters, so I can break Victoria out of her glass prison to take her revenge on David. Would you be willing to become a pilot, or happen to know any pilots?
I cry manly tears when I listen to my favorite Dream Theater songs, like this. The sheer awesomeness is hard to get over. I found Dream Theater late. I drove bus from 2016-2021, and I believe it was the Winter of 2018 when I was listening to "Seton Hall Pirate Radio WSOU" 89.5 FM towards the end of my shift. They played "The Count of Tuscany" in its entirety....and I was immediately blown away!!! When I got home, I looked up more songs on RU-vid, and the next day on my lunch break, I literally ordered every album on CD, and have been gladly listening to them since. This song that was broken up into two, was the reason I decided to buy all their body of music. And being a Christian rock enthusiast, I highly appreciate the Christian undertones in their music. I'm in my 40's. If I live up into my 80's+, I'll always be a true fan!
Love this comment. I've been listening since I was 16, now 34. It must feel pretty damn awesome to discover this band now! I still get goosebumps listening to this all these years later. As a drummer myself I cant help but move every single joint in my body when I listen to this band, and this song in particular. A Nightmare to Remember is also a personal favourite, the section when the car crashes, there is the sound of sirens approaching and they eventually get rushed to hospital. The drumming section ...... *Chefs kiss*
@@Nash210590 yes! A Nightmare to Remember was an amazing start to that album. It really reels you in. And that part you described was a chef's kiss. Rock on!
This song is my second favourite dream theater song with count of tuscany being number one. Only because the ending of that song was better than this song in my humble opinion.
Systematic Chaos was the album that got me into Dream Theater. Now I'm a die hard fan. Systematic Chaos is definitely in the top 3 albums for me. Scenes from a Memory and Black Clouds are probably the other 2.

I don't really understand the story. He becomes a part of the dark master's army, then how did he find out that's a bad thing, how did he begin fighting against all the demons, and how did he find God and saved his soul? Anyways, this is a great song!
These songs feel heavy with absolutely wonderful lyrics my favourites and an absolute masterpiece. Hope they're gonna play some this autumn in London 🤩
Nice crossfade. Better than the one I did. Which was just air. Boring. I did sew together the two halves of Shine On You Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, and also I Am The Sun by the Flower Kings. I Am The Sun worked really well. It made three 25 minute songs, making a tracklist as follows: 1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Pink Floyd) 25:45 2. I Am The Sun (The Flower Kings) 25:24 3. In The Presence Of Enemies (Dream Theater) 25:35
