@@vicariousjohnson9823 he's said that it's a combination of sonically getting less bleed from his cymbals and being able to see his bandmates. So I think he does it despite the extra energy needed because he views the benefits as worth it. However, it's definitely something every drummer will prioritise differently so I can see why you wouldn't do it.
