The little country part that starts at 2:57 is so cool. Dream Theater should do much more experimenting like that in their live shows, it really spices things up. The "instrumedley" song in LIve at Budokan is another great example of that, just the worlds greatest musicians having fun.
I freaking love this solo so much. It's almost like Lynyrd Skynyrd meets Dream Theater. Got that southern rock kinda feel to it. Too bad I'm terrible at learning guitar by ear.
I like how they can make a song even better live or just update it to give it a new "taste of the day" (like this, Surrounded '07, Spirit Carries and Raise the Knife on Score, etc.). Incredible band.
And i don't know..he usually doesn't sing amazing live..but sumtimes he does (innocence faded for example)..but his voice sounds much different on recording and this sounds a lot like his real voice.
You can get some very realistic acoustic sounds with proper mic sims and eqing, but petrucci seems to like his loud, in your face, pickup type acoustic sound.
holly shit. i was totally sure that Mike was the one doing the back vocals. totally sure. im really surprised that john has such a beautiful voice like that. im really happy right now hahah XD
Lyrics: A question well served, 'Is silence like a fever?' 'A voice never heard?' 'Or a message with no receiver?' Pray they won't ask Behind the stained glass There's always one more mask Has man been a victim of his woman, of his father? if he elects not to bother, will he suffocate their faith? Desperate to fall Behind the Great Wall That separates us all When there is reason Tonight I'm Awake when there's no answer Arrive the Silent Man If there is balance tonight He's Awake If they have to suffer There lies the Silent Man Sin without deceivers A God with no believers I could sail by on the Winds of Silence And maybe they won't notice But this time I think It'd be better if I swim When there is reason Tonight I'm Awake When there's no answer Arrive the Silent Man If there is balance Tonight he's Awake But if they have to suffer There lies the Silent Man
One thing I can't help but wonder though, just how much better would it be if it was with Labrie with pre-accident voice? I reckon the world would jizz :)
Rudess didn't record the song, that was Kevin Moore, but in this live version (Scenes From New York-Metropolis 2000) its Rudess. He Joined DT after the Liquid Tension Experiment right before Scenes From A Memory. Can't remember the date though, anyone remember what date exactly?
This is off topic but "the answer lies within" on score seems like something so intense that john would screw it up ;) don't know if you know anything about that.
laBrie is like the driver seat in a car, he might not be the engine or the steering or the wheel or the chesis, but sure he is important to the band. he is the one who made DT more DT
Niccolò M. Because why not? People would probably complain no matter what he did. The dude had 2 vocal injuries up to this point, I don’t get why people give him flack if they know that, which most do.
