It's funny to hear "childhood Dreamcast" for me. I was 24 when this came out. But, I still have just as much nostalgia for it as you do. This system is fantastic. And, I agree on the 3D printing crap. Thank goodness the kit you (and I) purchased has actual injection molded parts. Makes it look legit. It certainly plays legit. Enjoy dude. Subbed.
A lot of great games on the Dreamcast, including my two favorite games of all time, Shenmue and Shenmue 2. I'll never forget that winter night me and my dad started Shenmue and were blown away from the intro! I've gone on to beat that game over a dozen times....and always want to go back.
Great video EJ. My favorite game on Dreamcast was Phantasy Star. Had it hooked up via dialup and played online for free, that was in 2000 I believe. Demolition Racer is another game I loved on it.
I remember being very interested in Phantasy Star Online because of my addiction to Everquest, but never got around to getting it. I wonder how playable it is nowadays
@@RedCowArcade I know on the pc emulators a few years ago there was an online community but not sure which one it was. Game still looks great imo though.
If u have a couple of thousands of hours of extra time and want to somewhat relive the glory of classic EverQuest, Kunark and Velious, there is a server called Project 1999 that brings you back to the past. There's usually 1000+ players online concurrently.
@@RedCowArcade What was your class of choice in Kunark? I had a 60 bard in 2001 and my dream was to get a gnome mask from Sleeper's Tomb so I could be a gnome bard.
The strangest macaroni and cheese review I’ve ever seen! 😂 Seriously though this is good in-depth technical stuff! Should be on the front page of any enthusiast
16:30 It's funny, my pawpaw who mostly raised me, is a die hard LSU fan who took me to every LSU home game throughout my childhood. I loved tailgating and eating all of the food and hanging out with friends and family but hated going to the games themselves because I had no idea what was going on. It wasn't until someone bought me an NCAA video game before I knew the rules to football and started enjoying to watch the football as well. Knowing the rules allowed me to have some of my favorite memories in Tiger Stadium. It's funny because this video made me realize I am not the only one that video games made sports more interesting for. That which is kind of counterintuitive if you think about it. It makes me wonder who else started enjoying football due to video games.
Haha reminds me of playing NHL 94 in the late 90's with my buddy Eric, didn't care about the sport at all but he loved it and I got hooked in and taught it from him and the game. Icing used to drive me up the wall before I finally registered it as a dumb 8 year old lol.
if you ever find the time to make a video on the mv7 id love some tips to make it sound better or how to set it up for a good sound in general! much love fellas!
I’ve been on a Dreamcast kick and dammit it makes me miss mine even more. My ex wife threw it away with my MvsC2 and a few other games. Might have to get one and have my son mod it. I don’t understand emulation much but my 15 year old gets it like nothing! Awesome video!
I remember coming across Magic Knight Rayearth at K mart. I didn't have a Saturn, but good God did I ever want one, I would run to see if it was still there in the glass shelf until it eventually sold. 😢
Try replacing the thermal pads on the dreamcast. theyre due for replacement by over 20 years. i had to do that on mine after i too thought it was the PSU with my MODE install when it kept crashing. turned out it was the thermal pads needing replaced which fixed it. i used the coolermaster branded thermal pads from amazon i dont remember the thickness off the top of my head.
Easily one of the best consoles. It generated serious buzz, and blew me away. I think of it as the first modern console. I absolutely loved the VMU save system. If only the DC had more support from third party developers and was easier to develop for. In my opinion, if the DC had that support, it would have seriously contended with the PS2.
One of my favorite games on Dreamcast was Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. The story, the world and the lore were so amazing. The gameplay was pretty unique at the time. Later, when I played Ocarina Of Time on my New 3DS XL, I understood that Soul Reaver creators were inspired by 3D Zelda games, so it's basically a dark phantasy version of Zelda. Even Kain's image reminded me of Ganon. The corrupted world in hands of a tyrant also has many parallels with the bad future timeline of Zelda games. Though, Legacy of Kain series have much detailed story with deeper symbolism that makes you think that nothing is evil or good, and everything has its causes and consequences. A masterpiece. The Dreamcast version is considered to be the best port.
I LOVED the Dreamcast! I got one around launch and had a few games for it but I really started to get into it around 2001-2002 or so when the word was out they were discontinuing it and the games were dirt cheap. I'd like to recommend a few games you should try out. You mentioned you liked JRPGs so you have to try out Skies of Arcadia and Grandia II both are amazing RPGs. I'm sure you know about Shenmue, I loved it back in the day but I feel like you had to play it back then to really appreciate it just because it was such a new concept at the time to have that level of freedom in a game. Head Hunter is a great action game. It is a european exclusive. People like to compare it to Metal Gear Solid. I've never played MGS but Head Hunter is a game you should definitely try out. Crazy Taxi 2 is another must have DC game. There are of course many more great DC games but those are some of the top ones I'm thinking of atm. If you decided to play Grandia II or Skies of Arcadia you should do a video about it and give your thoughts. I think you will really enjoy them.
nice install guide... however I try to install it in 2024, not 2023. Too bad I didn't get around to installing this last year before the year went obsolete. can you update the video title to 2024 so I can use the video for guidance???
4:49 sounds like me. I traded my dreamcast, armada, RE:CV, SF3, House of the Dead, SF3 3rd, 2 controllers, 1 keyboard, and a VMU, for enough trade credit to get used copies of Filter Short Bus, Papa Roach Infest, and a few other CDs that I no longer remember. I doubt Big Pun was one of them though.
We still a teen back then, so have not much choice ... But I surely love my Playstation very much especially after skipping 16 bit generation and jump to 32 bit straight from my 8-bit NES
Cool, all my 5 Dreamcast GD-ROMs aren't reading anymore (surprisingly even a 'Like New' US version, complete in box/CIB I bought that has only been used for for a week, a 24 hour week, making me think it's not the lens that conks out it's maybe the capacitor. This may be a blessing in disguise discovery if I may it work again with a branded cappacitor). I'll need a very modded Dreamcast that'll include the latest GDEMU and a built-in Behar Bros. Toro, similar to Adam Koralik's extremely modded Dreamcast but mine might be better. God bless.
What does it depend on whether I need to replace the PSU or not? Because if it doesn't work that means I have to wait another 2 weeks for the product to arrive from China.
Nice video, what a colossal pain having to specify make and name a folder for every single game, might just go down the terra onion mode route instead even if it costs much more
Somebody knows if the new version of the GDEMU (5.20.5) works with a MicroSD (TF) Card? Because the developer of the GDEMU says that it doesnt work with it, i"ll appreciate if somebody helps me with that.
If you are familiar with raspberry pis then you really should make a Dreampi and play Phantasy Star Online. One of the best online communities and a very addicting game. You can still in 2023 get a full party almost every night.
Highly recommend once you get into the game to join Altimira ship Block 1 (the most populated from my time playing) and getting a keyboard for your dreamcast.
If you want me to complete your setup and put the best video quality possible in there I’ll mod it up with the hd Dreamcast mod by black lab tech it’s an intermediate plus job requires soldering a fragile flex cable to very fine pitch pins I can hook you up and I will recap your console as well and put a pico resettable fuse that won’t burn out (a fault of the designers of the Dreamcast) let me know if interested
This mod seriously sucks ... I've tried multiple Dreamcasts and multiple GDEMUs and none of the work. It's super if'y ... it might work it might not. Total waste of time and money of my personally
