Their first win was Maison. They got nominated for scream. They hold the record for longest girl group to get a first win. It took them 5 1/2 years. They won twice with Maison and then won twice with Bonvoyage. They have 4 wins now!
Thank you so much for sharing that information with us! That blows our minds as so many of their songs are phenomenal. Here's to more wins in the future 🤗
At the time Dreamcatcher debuted there were no rock-oriented kpop acts. Although, there's always been groups that would dabble in rock as a concept limited to one song or comeback. I do think before their time companies had attempted a similar core sound. Lately, there seems to be more girl groups and a few boy groups leaning into rock and definitely more groups with dark themes/concepts. I have seen people mention Pink Fantasy, TXT and Pixy though I've never listened to them. But Dreamcatcher is considered the face of the sound in the industry, especially since they were told they should change it if they wanted to succeed - that's how unpopular it was then
Rock-oriented K-pop acts with dark themes/concepts definitely seem to be more popular internationally, in our humble opinion. We have not had a chance to listen to either Pink Fantasy or Pixy - both have come highly recommended and we hope to check them out soon - but we are both big fans of TXT. TXT definitely has some rock-oriented music and darker themes/concepts, and we are both totally down for it!
Yep, Dreamcatcher and InSomnia basically won the World Cup. That's how it felt. 🥳🥳😭😭 Show Champion gave them extra time, normally the broadcast gets cut somewhere in the middle of the encore. Only fair, the girls waited for this moment for 1923 days. This video is a bit confusing. The first scenes are from times when they were happy to be nominated, not winning. Only the last one (Maison) was the actual win.
Thank you for clearing that up because we were not even certain for which song it was that they won! 😁 They seem so humble and we appreciate them even more for that 😍
dreamcatcher \:D/ the clips at the beginning of the video are just for getting nominated for the first time on a music show, having a song hits 1 on streaming charts, or just being happy to show progress like moving up from 7th in previous week to 6th this week, etc. maison was their first music show win.
Oh, I see how that could be confusing. The "Scream" moment was just them being nominated for 1st place, and I suppose included to show how touched they were to just be nominated at that point. First win was for "Maison". Yes the fandom name is 'Insomnia' and they call fans somnias and somnies just ...cuz it's cute, I guess. Fans often call them Dreamies.
Thank you for clarifying! It's a great video, as it definitely captures the emotion behind what that first win meant to Dreamcatcher - and InSomnia. We were just a little confused due to our lack of knowledge of Dreamcatcher. We appreciate viewers straightening out our confusion 🥰
Dreamcatcher is still 'K-Pop', although they are on the fringes of the umbrella. K-Rock is DIFFERENT than Pop. Rolling Quartz covered Dreamcatcher's song 'Good Night', the second song in the Nightmare Series. RQ is GREAT, they are a REAL ROCK BAND, they play real instruments and sing. They are AMAZING! I hope you check them out. :)
@@hallyureviewsus Yes. And the two groups are friendly. The drummer for RQ taught Han Dong to play drums. I am not sure how deep the connection is besides some of the producers they share.
@@hallyureviewsus Awesome, because this group does not discriminate. As long as you are a decent person, they would befriend you; they don't care about anybody's 'station' in life. From being friends with other Idols and Soloists and even actors, to being friends with janitorial staff at some of the show theaters. Seriously. Their open-mindedness is one of a bunch of huge reasons why they are my Ult Group in Music. :)
The 1st win was really difficult to get for a such talented group. If you want to have a full context, I suggest that you react to “dodging disbandment and other extremes sports” by Mera. This video start to be outdated, but it’s help a lot to understand what they’ve been through.
Dreamcatcher being the most versatile girl group , not only in concepts but members , Each member is talented and multi skilled , I'm so proud they are my ultimate group ,
I view them calling us Somnia's as them calling us their Dreams, since InSomnia means In Dreams, as it's a combination of the Latin word "Somnia" and the English word "In". As far as the question about other groups with a Rock sound. There are several Rock bands, as in they play instruments on stage and sing. Rolling Quartz and QWER are two that come to mind. There are also several groups that have guy members as well like Day 6 and Onewe. There are others but I don't know them off the top of my head. For Girl Groups who do Rock music as their core sound the only ones I know of are Dreamcatcher, Pink Fantasy (who have disbanded I believe), and maybe Yena, who is a soloist. Of those 3 Dreamcatcher are by far the senior group, having debuted in 2017 and at that time no one was doing rock as a core concept, that I'm aware of. Rock was more popular back in Gen 1 I believe but I don't think it's ever been a group's core sound. As for recommendations, they've got a little over 100 songs in their discography if you count their Intros, so you've got a ton left to view. I'd be happy to go back through your viewed songs and put a list together for title tracks you've not done yet if you want, but my main recommendation is just to go back to the beginning and start going through albums and covers. Their discography is fantastic from top to bottom and is easily the most diverse of any group I've ever come across, K-pop or not.
Great comment 👍 The person who informed them about the other girlgroups could've been me 😅 But I'm pretty sure I was talking about girlgroups that also had a DARK CONCEPT (so that doesn't mean rock per se). The only other girlgroups that do ROCK consistently are probably just the ones you mentioned (Rolling Quartz and QWER). It becomes a little gray where you stop calling it "k-pop" and start calling it "k-rock" though. I mean, another great group is KARDI, but they are usually not mentioned under "k-pop". Other girl groups with a consistent DARK CONCEPT are: - Purple Kiss (great vocals) - PinkFantasy (usually dark. Some metal/rock). They are on indefinite hiatus, sadly 😢 - Pixy - Craxy Are they worth checking out? I think all of these groups are worth checking out 😊 But like you said, Dreamcatcher still has A LOT to be explored first.
What a sweet view! We like that, "Dreams." Like Somnias help Dreamcatchers make their dreams come true 🥰 Thank you so much for sharing the information regarding Korean girl groups who have a rock sound. We enjoy learning everything we can about hallyu, and we appreciate when viewers who have more knowledge helps us along the way. 100 sounds! Wow! That's very impressive. We welcome any recommendations from viewers because it's easy for us to get caught up in the details of a group, and miss out on their big picture. If we are able to zero in on their definitive MVs/stages/etc, then we can attract more InSomnia to our channel. More InSomnia interaction allows us to do more Dreamcatcher reactions. It's a win-win! Next up, viewers recommended taking a look at "Little Light."
@@crispychicken9298 - we have had a few viewers mention other groups similar to Dreamcatcher - referencing either a rock vibe or a darker concept. Thank you for pointing out that distinction, because it certainly makes a difference.
@@hallyureviewsus No problem. Let me give you some specific recommendations then to help you out: Rock/metal Rolling Quartz - Blaze PinkFantasy - Poison Dark concept Purple Kiss - Ponzona Pixy - Villain Craxy - Poison Rose Irene & Seulgi - Monster Girl crush concept (G)I-dle - Tomboy CLC - Hobgoblin Everglow - First
@@crispychicken9298 - Thanks so much! This was really helpful 😘 And one more question - if you don't mind! - what is the "Girl crush concept" again? We know we've heard it referenced in K-dramas, as well, but we're drawing a blank...
Think of the Symbol , Remember the Legend , say the Name " Dreamcatcher , Dreamcatcher , Dreamcatcher " , Now you also have the Strength and Courage of the Legendary Dreamcatcher
The Legend that Never Gives Up , The Legend that Never Ends , The Legend that inspires and give Strength & Courage to the World , They call her Dreamcatcher
The official name is 인솜니아 insomnia (InSomnia) but that's 4 syllables!!!, nobody has time for that - so they often shorten it endearingly to 솜냐 somnya (Somnia), half the length. But they are used interchangeably in Korean. In English, "InSomnia" is awkward to make plural out of, so a lot of foreign fans understand InSomnia as a collective noun, whereas Somnia/Somnias sounds more countable. :)
🤣🤣 Great explanation! We agree - there are several plurals for fandom names that are more awkward in English, so that makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing 😘
It is insomnia but they call us somnias, like a sweet way of calling us. Hope you can react to more of their stuff off stage, The insomnicsy channel has amazing variety of playlist to get to know them
Oh, thank you for clearing that up for us! So both are correct. Good to know! We did not get it wrong. And we'd absolutely love to do more from the insomnicsy channel - any particular recommendations?
@@hallyureviewsus The entire channel of insomnicsy is fully completely devoted to Dreamcatcher so ANY video you land on from that channel will be great! It's always positive, uplifting and funny stuff. There are the 'This Is _' videos that help people get to know each of the ladies separately (four separate seasons of that), there are the 'Unfiltered' videos, there are the 'Laugh With Dreamcatcher' videos...EVERYTHING is really well-done and all done with love and respect for the group and the members.
@@jamescurfman3284 - Thank you so much! We continue to hear great things about insomnicsy, and we appreciate a channel when fans of the specific groups recommend it. Everything you mentioned sounded great, so we'll definitely have to do some exploring on the insomnicsy channel 🤗
the Season of Cherry Blossom is the Time of Dreams , " the fall of the Cherry Blossom petal , is as the fall of the tear of the Dreamcatcher " catch the petal , catch the tear , catch the Dream and make a wish
At 3:02 in your video, Siyeon was saying that she almost could not perform 'Odd Eye' because she almost cried. Dami explained that they had come in First Place on the Bugs chart, and Siyeon mentioned it was Seven to Six. But that is a chart, not a show. Dreamcatcher's first win on a show is significant for several reasons. A win on the charts is cool, but at a show you get cash prizes and respect (and are noticed by the moneymen at the top of the industry). 'Odd Eye' was great, but it did not do what 'Maison' did, which was capture the attention of the moneymen (because the idiots refuse to listen to hard rock, DC had to tone down their music in order to get noticed by those morons...how bass-ackward is that? The moneymen don't know GOOD music when they hear it, all they want to hear is 'Cha-Ching!').
@@hallyureviewsus Yeah. DC could have ten times the following if people would actually take a minute and really listen because they do actually make GOOD music. They deserve far better treatment than the way they have been treated so far. That's one reason that first win took so long. Another is, well, the shows are RIGGED. That's obvious in the way they were robbed of a win a few years ago.
@@hallyureviewsus I forget (I am sorry but my memory really is crap), have you seen the video about DC called 'Dodging Disbandment and other extreme sports'? That one explains what I mean in one section of it. Sabotage is blatant but somehow nobody got fired, like it never happened. Except we KNOW it happened...
