I'm so glad we're finally shining a light on one of their choreographers, she's so skilled it honestly is about time she gets more recognition. Their dances have always been so complex with great story telling in such a unique and interesting way!

I understand now why every DC choreography (esp. the ones in recent comebacks) does make each member stands out in their own style. all of them ✨️ shine ✨️ Hwang Sooyeon is definitely one of the best choreographers in KPOP industry. The girls are sooo lucky to have a super talented and supportive team from the producers to choreographers and dancers 🙌
She is as much a part of Dreamcatcher as Jiu, Sua, Siyeon, Handong, Yoohyeon, Dami and Gahyeon. As are Leez and Ollounder. Without any of these people, Dreamcatcher would not be the same.
Concur. The fact that Sooyeon has been close friends with the members (the MINX five anyway) for a decade shows in their interactions and in how Sooyeon understands the members and their strengths and weaknesses. Sooyeon and Keeyeoun aren't just "hired guns" who come in with a premade design that is adapted to the members - every Dreamcatcher choreo is built from the ground up to suit Dreamcatcher. So happy that more and more Insomnias are becoming aware of the contributions of Sooyeon and her team, and recognize that she is an integral part of what makes Dreamcatcher special!
@@autumneagle Not quite, but close. Happyface Entertainment was preparing a second girl group for debut after MINX. That group never had an official name; it's code name was "Die.A Project". Sooyeon was the leader of this pre-debut group. By 2016, MINX had flopped and Happyface had to decide whether to put their small-company resources into revamping MINX as Dreamcatcher or to write off the MINX members and debut Die.A Project instead. After having already blown a lot of resources on MINX, the company really couldn't afford to do both. All of the members of Die.A Project, including Sooyeon, were contestants on Produce 101 in 2016, primarily as a means to gauge just how strong a lineup/how good an idea debuting Die.A Project would be. Unfortunately, Sooyeon was the only member who ranked in the top half of the trainees - the others were eliminated in the first or second round. Die.A Project was cancelled in favor of re-debuting Dreamcatcher, and all of the Die.A Project members left the company. Sooyeon spent a couple of years as a contract dancer and developing her choreography skills, and when original Dreamcatcher choreographer Choi Sun-Hi became unavailable after taking a full-time position at SM, Sooyeon rejoined Happyface as Performance Director in time for "Deja Vu".

hello Sooyeon 😍 What I feel grateful is, from scream to boca, they always reserved a position for Handong no matter if 7 people promote all of them(ex: boca). That really makes us feel it is a family and shows the love to Handong. It's like tell her, "don't worry, we always keep a position for you. You are always part of us."😢
These are so much fun to watch and so informative! It helps you see so many more details--and it is awesome knowing that the members get the freedom to add their own little (or large) flourishes to the choreo as well. Sooyeon dancing in tiny is just a huge bonus!
It’s crazy how she says she’s not a genius, because I’d say she definitely is, along with Keeyeoun, Riye and others who might choreograph Dreamcatchers songs. I’m no dancer but I would assume making choreo is definitely not an easy thing to do, and the fact that Dreamcatchers choreo never leaves us disappointed means that they’re extremely talented in what they do, so huge props to them for always doing what they do for Dreamcatcher. Also not only them, but the dancers always bring the same energy and they definitely complete the entire song, they work so hard and it shouldn’t go unnoticed. I would love to see more videos like this, seeing insights on how Dreamcatchers amazing choreo came to be is always fun to watch and I also just love seeing Sooyeon she’s so adorable😆
Sooyeon is modest, maybe tempered by the fact that she didn't succeed as an idol. But she is EXTREMELY well-respected within the Kpop industry as both a choreographer and trainer. Other groups frequently complement Dreamcatcher's choreography, commenting on how it is so difficult and challenging and yet the members always pull it off with flair. It's the mark of a top-tier choreographer if a dance is designed such that it is challenging and yet leaves the necessary openings for the members singing to set up and be ready for when their lines come. Hwang Sooyeon is one of the very best at her job, and I hope Dreamcatcher Company is able to keep her for years to come!

@@InsomniSuA I do worry a bit with Dreamcatcher Company's trainee group cancelled that Sooyeon will be snapped up for a full-time position at a different company, but I feel confident that the members and management recognize her value and would want to keep her if at all possible. And InSomnias who know that Sooyeon and Keeyeoun are kinda the 8th & 9th members want them both to stay forever!

What a loss to Happyface Entertainment to not be able to debut this absolute star ... but, man oh man, did it work out for them (and Insomnias) as Dreamcatcher Company brought her back as the choreographer and performance director for our beloved Deukae. this explains why dreamcatcher always sounds so fresh yet feels very dreamcatcher. The choreographer lays down the base and adjustments were made based on the collective idea of many members of the company. the result is a choreo that hits different every single time yet retains the dreamcatcher dna in it. i feel that this level of flexibility is not the norm in kpop especially in bigger companies and only prevalent in mid tier companies like DCC and the likes.
When you want to be an idol but became a performance director. I still remember her in Produce 101 pursuing her dreams to be an idol. The future has another plan for her and she's in a better place now. ❤️

드림캐쳐 안무를 보면 그 안에 들어 있는 수많은 변주와 규칙성이 놀라워요. 한 두번 보고 전체적인 구성이 어떻게 흘러가고 어떻게 변화하는지 이해하는 건 불가능해 보여요. 풍성하고 아릅답고 많은 정보량이 꽉꽉 들어차 있어요. 어떻게 이렇게 다차원적인 안무를 구성할 수 있는지... 경이롭습니다. 안무영상마다 수십번은 볼 수 있을 것 같아요.
This is interview was really cool. I'm not knowledgable about dance so it's very interesting to hear the thought process of how the choreography was designed. Sooyeon is great and has worked with many other artists I really like too. I hope she gets a lot of recognition for her work.
Scream will always have my favourite Dreamcatcher choreo of all time, so I loved hearing more about how it was created! It can be very hard to make something creative when collaborating with others, but it’s clear that everyone involved worked together very intuitively. Sooyeon and Dreamcatcher are the perfect match, I can’t imagine anyone else doing a better job at choreographing this song!
