Travail absolument remarquable, c'est d'une beauté ... de toutes les peintures, l'aquarelle a vraiment cette chose en plus dans l'esthétique que je te trouve assez dingue, poétique. Merci beaucoup pour ce montage. J'ai découvert l'éxistance de votre atelier hier même, je me suis empressé de me procurer Rêves de Japon ce jour. Étant néophyte dans l'aquarelle, inutile de cacher que vous êtes un grande source d'inspiration pour mes débuts. Yes, scanning. But it's a long and difficult process: a scanned image looks faded and we have to manually correct every color until we get the original vibrancy back.

Thanks for your wonderful videos! Could I ask - do you do your comic pages like this too? I'd like to do my drawings in this same way, however the problem I have is that when I put my sketch down on my light pad, I can't see through the paper enough to trace it precisely enough. Maybe the paper I am sketching on is too thick? If you had any advice i'd be so grateful. thanks again for sharing your amazing work.

Thanks for your message. Yes, we use exactly the same method for comic pages. We print the sketches with a strong contrast so the lines turn black. It makes it easier to see the sketch through the paper with the light pad. But even with that, the small details are not easy to trace. In the end, there's a lot of improvisation when tracing: we like to change a little bit the characters, to add a new background... It's good not to stick to closely to the original sketch: it's gives more life to the final result.

Great work! The rough sketches in the beggining, were they digital or actual watercolor?

Thank you! Everything (from the rough sketches to the final illustration) was done on paper with watercolor. We only use computer for scanning and preparing the files for printing.

Thank you! We use the "Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolors" because they're the easiest to find in France.

This is beautiful. As is your book. But, I was not able to see any subtitles. And will your book be available on Amazon soon or must they be ordered only from Omake books?

Really? It's strange, the subtitles should be there. Have you tried clicking on the little balloon (on the bottom right corner of the video): it should be underligned in red. And if it's still don't work click on the little cog and select "English" in the subtitle menu. I hope it will work. About Amazon, I have no idea, sorry. It probably depends on where you live (Amazon France sells the book). The publisher's website seems to be the easier place to order it for people who live outside France: they ship worldwide.

Le plus important, c'est de te lancer. Même si tu as l'impression de ne pas arriver à faire comme tu veux au début, ça viendra petit à petit !

Bonjour, vous dites dans la vidéo que vous utilisez du papier aquarelle 300g pour les illustrations mais pour vos bd un papier plus fin pour voir a travers a la table lumineuse. quel papier utilisez-vous (grammage, marque etc...) ? lequel avez vous utilise pour faire Onibi ? merci pour cette superbe vidéo.

Pour Onibi, nous avons utilisé du Canson C à grain 224g sur sa face lisse. C'est un bon compromis : pas forcément adapté pour faire de grandes aquarelles mais tout à fait suffisant pour de petites cases de BD pleines de détails. En plus, on trouve ce papier partout et il n'est pas cher (surtout les lots de 10 feuilles format raisin à environ 10 euros). Merci pour ton message. On espère que notre réponse te sera utile.

Concernant le masking fluid, on a eu de mauvaises expériences à l'époque où on l'utilisait : le papier s'arrachait à chaque fois qu'on l'enlevait et surtout, quelques années après, des traces jaunâtres sont apparues sur le papier aux endroits où on en avait utilisé. Depuis, on préfère éviter...

@@ateliersento À force de voir des vidéos d'Heikala l'utiliser systématiquement dans ses illustrations, je m'étais dit que c'était plus pratique, et sans risque; mais je veux bien croire que ça doit dépendre de plein de facteurs, et tant qu'on a une méthode qu'on aime et qui marche, c'est l'essentiel.

Justement, en regardant les vidéos d'Heikala, on s'est dit qu'on devrait peut-être réessayer en utilisant la même marque qu'elle. La nôtre était peut-être tout simplement de mauvaise qualité...

You need to try both to know which one suits you best. For us, it’s 8B pencil ✏️ because the lines are more sketchy and organic. It gives a warmer look to the illustrations.

J'ai vraiment aimé votre livre. Les illustrations sont très belles. Je vois que vous utilisez des pinceaux Raphaël Softaqua. Est-ce que vous pouvez m'indiquer la taille que vous utilisez ? (à vu de nez, je dirais que le gros pinceau est un n°22, le moyen un n°10 et le petit un n°4... le pinceau plat, par contre... je n'en ai aucune idée)

Merci beaucoup pour votre message ! De manière générale, on utilise 3 tailles : 20, 14 et 8. (le plat, c'est 14 mais on ne l'a utilisé que cette fois-ci) On aime bien les softAqua qui nous ont été conseillés par Mateusz Urbanowicz et qui sont parfaits pour notre usage.

Bonjour ! Merveilleux travail , je suis très content de te découvrir. J'ai regardé tes vidéos et j'ai remarqué que tu ne prenais pas de précaution concernant le papier qui gondole un peu.. Est-ce que c'est quelque chose que tu rectifie facilement par la suite ?

Merci beaucoup ! On est contents que tu aimes ! Concernant le papier qui gondole, ce n'est pas très grave : on le maintient à plat en pressant avec un gros livre quand on scanne et c'est OK ! C'est une (mauvaise) habitude qu'on a pris à cause de la BD, comme on colore parfois une 20aine de planches à la fois, impossible de toutes les tendre.

Moi qui est débutant c'est quelque chose qui me gène énormément, surtout que je ne prend pas forcément du bon papier pour l'entraînement, du coup j'ai quasiment des rouleau déchiqueté, malgré les précautions pour le tendre. Mais vous voir le faire tout naturellement ma rassuré, bonne continuation !
