the game im making looks better and ive only been a game dev for a few months lol. not trying to sell anything. just their ineptitude and scams have no limits. All they had to do is make LODs for the meshes. Then they can have a lower quality mesh for long distance shots. The engines can even generate them for them.
@@Garycarlyle nah man this guys should follow a RU-vid tutorial coz this is a new mambo jambo of a mess, like I've only made one game as a school project and God mine is fifty times better
Btw callum this is not an alpha, in the actual developer definition of what an alpha is a game being in alpha means you have all the assets AND your core gameplay loop in the game, there is no game here this is just a broken missmash of basic mechanics and walking
Maybe the dreamworld they meant was the fantasy of the greastest (and last) game created. So maybe Skiazos was one of the few who actually got to experince it. Maybe dreamworld was inside of us all along and the friends we made along the way.
@@kirayoshikage4057 Idk man, I've gone from being slightly interested when it's at its peak then to just watching the shitshow from the sideline because I just think it's going nowhere at this point. The guy went from setting up a Patreon to help with the development to just using it as a personal tip jar, which also has been dwindling because his fans essentially grew up and gave up. He had volunteers trying to help him, yet he just can't help himself and decided to manage everything himself, then basically put the blame on them for the demo taking too long when it finally came out. Also what frustrates me the most about the demo is that we could've had it years ago, with the Kokona character. She's perfectly fine as the tutorial character, in fact I personally think she's far more interesting than Ayano, Osana or any other rivals that may or may not come in the future. She could be the only rival for all I care.
@@veldara822 I don't pity them. I feel sad for them that they want their dream game so bad that they'll fund obvious scams in the vein hope that at least one of them will be legit, but I don't pity them.
It's human nature for people to want to fit into the crowd. That's why gangs exist. That's also why people will always fund things like this cos it makes them feel like they are part of something.
"Hey guys welcome to my basic networking tutorial, before we begin please note that we're using C++ for this project--" "Woah woah hold up, there's TWO plus signs now?!"
A guy made a diablo clone in a week in unreal. It's way way better than whatever it is they did. Is there a tool that drops random assets in random places at the touch of a button? Because that is the only way they could have done less work.
@@Jordan-Ramses Heh those "I made X in 2 hours" are better than what they have. What gets me the most is the framerate, unless that was being played on a $200 laptop I have no idea how they got it to run that bad. They've gotta have something configured wrong.
It’s the technicality that will make them untouchable in court. These guys are scammers and come from rich families. They are not stupid, I guarantee you they have been taught how to game the system.
I'm really starting to think they know this is an absolute failure and they're starting to drive it into the ground intentionally. Like, "if we've started a fire, we might as well make it a bonfire and see how big we can go!"
Ah 2147483648 is 2 to the power of 31 and that minus sign it means the game has an integer overflow somewhere (whether that be from hacking the game or it's just one of the many problems the game client has without you even trying to break it.) Worst case scenario is there's also memory issues like buffer overruns which would allow anyone to install a computer virus on any one else's computer connected to it (both the server and other players).
it's either malicious intent or they're literally living in a dream world. if they just hadn't shown anything, i'd assume the former, like we all have. but them thinking they can get away with showing this makes me unsure. serious mental issues that need to be looked at regardless
Here's a fact: they can get away actually! At least on the US. At least on the funding part! Why? Well, go on kickstarter and read all pledges. There's not even one pledge tier that talks about a release deliver. All the kickstarter campaing is about is fundind the ALPHA. And they delivered it! They delivered everyone an ALPHA of an online multiplayer game! If in any court, they can just state they released the alpha as promissed, gave acess to every backer as promissed, and can go even further to state that an alpha version of a computer software is an unfinished, rudimentary piece of software, on early stages of development, that may contain various errors and unfinished assets or even placeholder assets. So, in the end, they actually delivered exactly what they promissed, an alpha version of what MIGHT come to be a game! What they can't escape is a lawsuit if they really stole the new assets OR bought a one user license and are using it against that license. So yeap, unfortunatelly, they can get away with that pretty easy!
@@fuinharlz yeah, i have no arguments against that. i was actually talking about something else with "thinking they can get away". i meant i hope they don't think they're fooling anyone with what they released as alpha. that would be scary in itself. but, yeah, it's most likely what you're describing
@@Paul-zh2jp I think they already know they'r not fooling anyone... if you reach the kickstarter page and go on comments, there's ppl already asking why the discord invite now is invalid! But they don't need to fool anyone anymore... they made more than 60k USD in less than 3 months and fullfilled what they "promissed" for that 60+k... They can just run away and tart thinking on how to can another public, maybe music or even movies this time :P
They’re just making the game as bad and unappealing as they can so that their legal obligation to deliver a game is fulfilled and they never have to deal with the backers because nobody is going to want to play the game. The only mental illness theyve shown signs of (at least one of them) is narcissistic sociopathy. In fact, all things considered this might be the only smart move they could make at this point. They were never going to pull a No Man’s Sky.
Perhaps that's why Garrison had to leave his former employment, because he was coding networking without any sort of security at all. This is a nightmare.
Seeing Dream World keeps me motivated to keep working on my own project, Since i am no longer the worst person to use UE4, These guys are so bad, they cant even do basic UE4 Blueprints.
The server is actually dangerous to connect to, if it has no authentication with zero security your computer is basically an open book to the server, I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure anyone with a bit of know how could do a lot of damage to any computer connected to it. don't run this game outside a virtual system because your computer and any data on it could be at risk if you connect to the server.
As someone who’s not too familiar with the drama, that part is what tipped me off that this was not an accident. When I looked further into it and saw they have literally made the game look worse and less performant, it became obvious they had decided to tank it.
Come on guys, this is clearly an alpha alpha! When the beta alpha gets released you'll see how much work they have been doing behind the scenes. Of course you'll get a feel for the game once alpha 1.0 is released /s (just in case)
This is blossoming into the most absurd gaming shitstorm I've ever seen. I remember seeing the kickstarter advertised on FB and cackling at it for hours. Like, when I saw the default mannequin I just wheezed. I still don't understand why someone would fund this
I love the fact there was a mod revolt and when they got kicked out they just went and hung out in your discord. You have become the messiah of the dream world scam
Did they find a 1990's kitbash or something lmfao? They could spent like 10minutes a day doing something to even make it look like they're trying and come up with a better result, well, if they knew how.
And that's the whole thing, right? They didn't even bother to make something unique with all of the tools/ packages they stole. It's just the asset packs they're showing off. Nothing about this "alpha" is new content. If this is the result of 9 years of experiences with game development/ design, I'd hate to see what they'd do with less.
@@onomatopoeia7505 Yeah it's crazy that they can justify this hot mess somehow. I remember when I first ever loaded the unreal dev kit I made a small map and as bad as that was, I can proudly say it was so much better than what they're working with. They're in too deep now to admit to anything because that's basically an admission of guilt and would go against them so badly (I mean it'll go against them anyway, but the stall)
When you say "scam" are you saying the intent from the beginning was to take money with no intention of a workable game? Or just that the team has proven to be well out of their depth and won't be able to produce a real game (no intent to steal money, just incompetence and over-promising)?
These guys got to a point where they realised they were out of their depths and couldn't achieve even 5% of what they promised and they continued to collect money. Thats my reasoning for calling it a scam
Now comes the interesting part. They have released the alpha and completed there kickstarter promises, so now we see how they try to disappear and slither away with the money
The moment you said they are using Kitbash3D as a single user instead of a team and not only that but also do not modify the 3d assets and just use it as it is with no creative thought, I felt disgusted. I'm an aspiring Concept Artist and those asset kits have a purpose for artists, they shouldn't be abused like that and especially shouldn't be purchased with a license for an individual while it's being used by a team of people.
That moment when they haven't even scaled there stock assets to the player. Those buildings are like 200 meters tall when there meant to be 20... If they can't even scale and place game objects properly then there is no hope for this. That's like not even the basics to be able to place items in your game... not even saying anything about that network code...
Kitbash being as big as they are, I hope they completely destroy these idiots. I hope everybody they stole something from ruins their lives. We need to send a message to scammers like this that this kind of behavior is UNACCEPTABLE.
Unpopular Opinion. Anyone who gave these guys money deserved to get scammed. This was so obviously bullshit that I can;t believe a single person with two brain cells would help fund it. Some people shouldn't have money and these guys are doing society a favor.
What if, this is their way of trying to make sure they don't have to refund people or something? Like, its not legally a scam because we provided SOMEthing. Nobody would release this and think, yea this is at least passable. Nope, there had to be another reason, and its obvious theyre not trying to make a game.
My dreams are more cohesive then this mess. I could have done a better job and I've never built a game ever. Like they really with their whole chest acted like they were going to make the "Last game you'll ever play". I think this will be the only game they will ever make. Seriously this video was making me nauseous and I don't have motion sickness. Callum take your time and get the proof, and then drag them for filth as they deserve.
I'm quite confused by this too, I'm a Software Engineer and I've looked at Garrison Bellack's Linkedin, he seems to have pretty good credentials. What I don't understand is how a programmer with the experience Garrison has thought they could make this game alone, either he's lying or they're just stupid af.
@@jesperburns And they deserved it too, sadly a rare sight these days to have such a fundamentally solid game be released, and in early access no less.
I'm not sure what the dreamworld fuzz is all about. Its a rip off, okay, theres plenty of them out there. But even if the game was everything it promised to be, it would still be a shit game so yeah. wtf. lol
As a game dev, whenever I have a bad day, looking at Dreamworld gameplay always makes me feel better. If these guys make a living making bad games, then so can I.
Theyve made about as much progress on their game in these past 4 months as I have on the one I've been working on... Except I've got zero funding and have been struggling with the worst my adhd has ever been. I'm impressed.
"Dreamworld Alpha" you mean the world created with Ready-To-Use-Assets instead of their own creations? Right. P.S That dude is just gringy weeaboo, you can see it from his behavior already.
My question here is. How do we prevent these scams moving forward? Obviously, Zachary is not going to stop here. This is the stuff that gives me anxiety as a game developer if I wanted to press a project forward into funding. How is it the scam artist can poop out an obvious scam and make $1000's off it. While an actual lone developer or small indie team will struggle, bleed and sweat to network enough just to make a smaller goal.
Well technically, it is an alpha, like an actual early development alpha, not meant for release, but for testing. What game companies call "alpha" are betas, and "betas" are demos. Alphas usually have grey boxes and placeholders to test the fundamental game design and systems, as you usually make that work before starting to put a new coat of paint on it, so to speak. Although i'm quite sure the "devs" here meant this as a demo of the final release, as in the fundamental game design and systems are done and ready to be played by the public.
My god. I'm a UE4 dev and by no means a great one, but I could have made this in about 2 hours. Absolutely awful. Do we know how this content is being sent to the server? If the game is in this state, I doubt the server is even storing any of the changes made in the world. I have to imagine the changes will vanish once the server is restarted. It's honestly probably just a client that they have open on another computer that you connect to. smh I need to get my hands on a copy for research purposes
So to stop the engine from lagging or crashing when turning the camera around and digging all around they changed the far clipping plane properties and added in even more assets into the map. I do not like the map they put in for their Alpha. I thought, maybe they ditch that map and with its bland washed-out colors and put in something decent, but no, its still the same map. So I am left wondering if they are trying to deliberately destroy the game industry in the crazy things they doing both inside the engine and also outside of it. The only familiar theme with this game I see is dig dig dig, tool broke, game broke, and engine broke or will break sooner or later. as more people log in to use it.. He is saying their Alpha is like swiss cheese . but in my game I put the foundation on dialogue storyline to see how my ideas play out in the engine.. And because I wrote funny dialogue in my game, well that's what I built my game on and Dreamworld put their foundation up on a load of hot air saying that Dreamworld will have a million players all digging around on a plugin of Minecraft and a bunch of asset flips is pretty much what came out. I don't really see anything different than what I already saw in their pre-alpha. Except for the camera clipping change and dumping in some new assets. So I see a rinse wash and repeat of the same soap of what was done in the pre-alpha. version and Still there's no game, no scripts and no storyline, or narrative or dialogue. So I've heard all the hot air come out on this game that its so exciting and great to play, beyond your wildest dreams,, but I think this game needs a good scrubbing of itself to clear out all the dirt and hypocrisy that's oveflowing in it.. So after seeing the Alpha, I got bored in just 2 seconds.
@@bestguywhotellsitlikeitis They claim Dreamworld has an infinite self-procedural voxel world. So I dont' know if their map is this infinite world as they say or is just 10-20 km in size or is just 1-2 km in size for my Blackhell map that I'm working on now in my game that I've not put a video up yet of is abt 1-2 km so its small..But its not a procedural map. I don't like this idea of players digging tons of holes all around in the engine because this strains the engine if you do too much of this digging and also causes issues with the camera clipping of the holes you digging and players getting stuck in holes also that they dig... It just brings in other issues which Callum was talking all about in his videos when examining their Pre-Alpha as you have to work within engine limits. But these guys are saying Unreal has no engine limits and I don't believe that because I ran into engine limits in doing certain things. It does make me wonder how many ticks they got now running in the engine with all those assset packs they installed in.
just to clarify i got the key from a backer that had already been scammed and wished to give me the key to expose the scam, i have put no money in to this at all
