I have only bought patterns for 5 dollars and under, but I just bought that last dress pattern. I have linen I must make that dress with - sleeveless, simple, with pockets? YES! 💕

Hi from England. Like you, I love dresses. It is so easy to make an outfit with them and they tend to cover more figure faults than separates! Also, the Bondi dress is my favourite summer dress pattern. Not only does it look good it is feels like a dream to wear. Thank you for doing these videos.

Yes!!! I love the Bondi! I have two so far. I’ve been thinking of lengthening it to a maxi in cotton/linen. 💗

That was fun seeing all your hand-made dresses! When I want more shaping to a boxy pattern I add fish eye darts to the back - Karina on Pins & Needles has a tutorial I believe on how to do that. I've even added them to store bought garments that look too boxy :) Thanks again for another great video.

Great idea! Does that work with drapey jersey, though?
@PsychicKathleen
@PsychicKathleen 4 года назад
@@Lisamakes mmmm... I've never done it with drapey jersey so likely not :)) I've done it on cotton/spandex knit with success but you're right you likely need at some structure for it to work. Your elastic probably does work better!

Excellent wardrobe for a hot summer! Perhaps for the facings issue, you could serge them down to 3/4 inch wide with matching looper thread, then topstitch a second line 1/2 inch from the topstitiching you already have.
@Lisamakes

I dont that have a serger here in Spain. 😬

Loving all your summer clothes. On the grey linen dress could you stitch the ends of the pocket opening and make it a feature with some arrow head embroidery in a contrast colour or maybe a bit of leather trim?

On the Gre-ige dress pockets could you use a decorative feature of a darker grey triangle of fabric over top the tears and do a stitching in white like the Japanese embroidery to attach it? As for the rusty pink wrap dress, if you trim back the rest of the facing like you did on the bodice why not use the same colour thread as the dress and top stitch 1-1.5" from the outer edge all the way around the wrap to make it a decorative feature as well.
@addiekl
@addiekl 4 года назад
Yes, I agree, topstitching the facing would give an overall better result that switching to binding.
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 года назад
I’ve throught about it-- you girls know I love a good Topstitch- but I’m not sure how flat it would lie. Even the hem stitching is a wee bit bunchy. It’s a good possibility, though!

Thank for listing the patterns , I love the way u create a dress from a top pattern 👍 . On yr wrap dress the one you can wear back to front , try using Iron on /fusible double sided tape , it will hold the facing in place ! Lovely makes , I must say Blackbird does have lovely fabrics ! I try to stay away from polyester ( although getting quite difficult as it seems to be in everything! ) as I live in Europe in the Mediterranean and it is already 26 degrees now 😅😅 ! cottons , linens and I will try this bamboo fabric u mentioned. Keep safe xx

Hi Lisa, You may have already solved your apricot wrap dress conundrum but I had a couple of thoughts...oddly when I couldn't sleep last night this popped into my head. There are only the two pictures to sort it out but what I see is the facing is interfering with the skirt fabric's desire to relax. The facing is in effect pulling up on the edge while the skirt itself is wanting to heed to gravity. The skirt is winning in a sense by pulling the facing around. What I would try is removing the facing but only up to where it turns the corner at the bodice. Keep the diagonal facing across the front and, what I assume encases the tie. Press the now free vertical edge flat and let it hang overnight. Next day I would just clean finish that edge... turn the seam allowance 1/4" then 3/8" and press and then topstitch down that edge. I'd use a bit of a longer stitch and maybe even put a slight amount of pressure on the fabric as it went under the presser foot to make sure the stitching itself doesn't fight with the drape of the fabric. Extra benefit: super simple fix. Just a theory but I like puzzles ;-) Looking forward to seeing it in your lovely Doors of Sitges series.
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 года назад
How clever you are! I often think of sewing when I can’t sleep, too- but not usually someone else’s sewing! 😂😂😂 I haven’t yet tackled the dress, but your solution is very appealing. Thank you for explaining it so well!
@libbybowles

And Sew On ...well, it’s too dangerous to think about my own conundrums because I’m all too likely to get up in the middle of the night and start sewing! 😁
@janmiller1850
@janmiller1850 4 года назад
So very lovely ... I really appreciate the neutral color palette. For the lovely but frustrating wrap, you could possibly add a sweet trim of some kind (ribbon or embroidery) that you sewed down, an inch or so from the edge, from hem around to hem through all layers. It would anchor the facing for good and all. Also, I think it would make a lovely tunic over capri pants or long shorts ... though you would have to shorten a dress to a top (which might feel counter-intuitive 😏).
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 года назад
It’s a bit of a conundrum! I think I may try to rework the the skirt of the dress ...

Hi Lisa, gorgeous garments for your Me Made May 💖👌. I'm adoring your Bondi dress from Tessuti 💕💕💕...such a gorgeous fabric and a great dress to chuck on easily and looks so cool to wear ...a real winner. With your wrap dress... isn't there a type of double sided tape that you could use to keep the facings from flipping...It's such a lovely fabric and colour and hangs so nicely... I'm not sure a binding would hang the same way...just my thoughts but I could be wrong there 😊. Looking forward to seeing your separates 😁💖😘

That dress with frayed pockets have you considered sewing a triangle or whatever shape out of suede or washable fake leather at the top and the bottom of the pocket where it meets the side seam. Just a button size piece of fake leather or whatever. Make it a design feature... That dress that's giving you grief with the facing. There's little spots... Usually white or black that are velcro but you don't sew it on they are sticky backed. Again larger button size. I've seen then square shape or round That might work... Until you have to wash it... Anyway a suggestion.
@Lisamakes
@Lisamakes 4 года назад
Yes, you’re right, a little triangle is a great idea. I might even be able to take it from another part to the garment. Great idea!

Lovely makes. Have you thought of touch stitching several lines equally spaced to keep the facing down on the tencel twill dress? Five lines would make a detail that could save you the hassle of removing it. xxx

I am! I live in Sitges, outside of Barcelona. Some on line sources I know are “Tejidos de Moda” “Cal Joan” “Ribes y Casals” and Telas.es. I also really like Metermeter which is Danish, but has reasonable shipping and very high quality fabric. Suerte!

Love your style - great on you. I really think the dress before the luscious grey (Melon) by ALL MEANS -- Take out the facings and self bind - you will be so much happier with it! Life is too short to be that uncomfortable I love linen also but I'm very surprised the tencil is crushable which is not the norm. Until tomorrow

I never cared for linen. It always looks as if it was slept in and I am a wrinkle-free obsessive person. A former co-worker wore linen pants and dresses throughout the spring and summer and always looked so unkempt. I never could understand its popularity.
