I love how u pointed out how some younger girls may feel uncomfortable wearing the exact same outfit you wore because their body type. I know for one I stayed away from skirts and low cut tops as a kid because my chest and butt was just to big for it and I didn't want to draw attention.
@beepwrld

I'm so sorry you felt that attention on your body as a child!! It sucks how common that experience is. I hope now you get to wear whatever makes you feel good, whether that includes skirts and low cut tops or not

Ugh ,the first time I was cat called from a car by a group of older teenage boys, I was eleven. I was wearing last year's summer shorts and had just started puberty and my bum was developed. Ugh. I will never forget that feeling. No child should ever have that experience it is gross! xx

I would love to see a sequel to this video where you don't dress like you actually did as a kid, but take inspiration from how you _wanted_ to dress as a kid. Making your child self's dreams come true!

I stopped doing laundry to watch you climb that tree. It deserved my full attention. I need to go back to doing fun LITERALLY FREE things! Less going out to restaurants and ice cream places and shopping, more picnics with homemade sandwiches and drawing and climbing trees and playing pretend. I’m rediscovering how to have fun oh my goodness.
@beepwrld
@beepwrld 2 месяца назад
hahaha So glad the tree climbing commanded your attention. But omg seriously, so much of "fun" for adults is based around consumption and there are really so many wonderful fun activities out there that don't cost a penny. Might have to try to recruit some friends for regular tree climbing

I think the topic you mentioned about how we are socialized to both care and scoff at fashion would be such a great discussion. This is something I've been thinking about a lot myself and it would be really cool to hear some other perspectives on that topic.

My childhood fashion was 50% school uniforms and 50% whatever my mom made me wear/hand-me-downs, so little me would be so happy that I finally get to wear whatever I want and get to explore fashion now. I probably won't revisit my personal childhood wardrobe 😂 but this was a very great video 🥰

This video did make me think of my "not like other girls" era (yikes) and how I dressed for the sake of feeling less girly since it was "bad". This got to the point where I hated my girly attributes and sometimes wondered "hmmm do I really want to be a girl?". YES, I love being a girl, but somehow my mentality made me think less of being a girl and other girls around me. I love dressing girly and womanly nowadays as an adult, it´s one of the most important ways I present myself, at least for me. Anyway, great video as always

I distinctly remember me and my 12-15 year old friends regularly getting honked at as we walked or biked or rollerbladed around the neighborhood dressed in pretty typical tanks and shorts or outfits like the green shirt/black skirt you were wearing so everything you said about being more aware of your body was definitely something I went through as a child and still think about all the time as an adult. WHEW. All of that to say thank you for saying all that and I love your videos.

This was so fun to watch! I remember all of these styles from my own childhood, the cargo pants, the tropical designs, the 90s hand-me-downs. Also the plaid dress + big collar combo! It's feels really weird to see early 2000s/mid 2000s things coming back into fashion now. I'm currently watching a lot of TV from that era that I used to watch as a kid, too, and it all makes me feel much more connected to my childhood self...

As a child I dressed SOLELY on what was comfortable. 😅 (okay, and sparkly). As a young college-aged teen I developed my first (recognized) crush on a girl and I suddenly cared about fashion. Now, as an adult, I make my own clothes so I can be both pretty and comfortable. 🧡

OMG, same. 1½ years ago I even started volunteering at a "Free-of-charge"-Shop (it's kinda weird to explain, people can drop off stuff they don't need anymore and others can take it for free - so it doesn't go to waste and gets a second life) and while I thrifted a lot before, I honestly can't remember the last time I payed money for clothes. This way, my style got a lot more eclectic and courageous - because I just take what I think is interesting, and if I end up not wearing it, I just put it back in the shop ☺️

I wore it until it only fit as a shirt and then I wore it till it wouldn't fit at all lol I'm still looking for it's replacement in my wardrobe to this day. I could never do a challenge like that. My mom dictated my outfits until well into my adolescence and I was being made fun of so much that I stopped going to class. I then went straight to mall goth as soon as I earned my own money and could buy clothes for myself, mainly because I knew that she hated black. And nowadays I am mostly confused about style in general.
@fallaciousjinx

I think, when I was a kid, clothes just were something you had to wear to not be cold or naked - and not something, I put much sort in. I remember having a really girly phase, loving to wear pink and purple (well, the purple stayed) but besides of that, I just wore what was put on my body, was easy to move in and wasn't itchy... My first remembrance of consciously deciding what to wear was when I was 11 - and it dawned on me, that I dressed really uncool and childish, so I begged my mom for some hip clothes... Luckily, during the last few years (I'm in my mid 30s, so there's still hope for all of you) I developed a style I'm really comfortable with and that's really sustainable because it consists of at least 95% thrifted clothes 😍
@deadendstreet2484

love this video concept! My little child self was very particular abt clothes and it was purely for comfort no thought about styling - but as I got older I had the stupid “nOt lIke tHe OthEr gIrlS” phase + purity culture that caused me to dress in a way that I later ended up hating when I realized I always felt uncomfortable of myself just existing the way I was. So I decided to expiriment with the clothes I loved seeing on others on myself. (I thought I couldn’t wear things only others could cuz I wasn’t enough or whatever lmao and being diagnosed autistic but in denial for a long time there’s a whole lot of lore there) The past 4 years have may look like a complete 180 but I feel like myself now more than I ever did before! I love accessorizing, skirts, dresses, bright colors, etc etc etc

I always enjoy very much your videos, they are always a fresh breath for me. But, for me, this one has been specially good. You really made me think about my childhood and, me being a 43 year old woman, you made me want to make this same experiment to meet with my inner child, my essence. I think we should all have this connection with ourselves. The older we get the more we loose it and the more we forget our essence. I have never thought the way we dress could have so much impact on this, but it absolutely does! Good job girl! ❤

This is a really interesting concept (and I was glad to see a video from you!). It did make me start thinking about my childhood clothes and what I liked and what I didn't. Looking back, I can see the roots of my current style (a blend of classic, boho, and 'coastal grandmother, which is really classic). My favorite piece of clothing as a five-year-old was a cotton sundress in a muted teal blue color (totally my color) with bands of red and yellow rickrack on the hem. I would totally wear something like that now. I also fondly remember a dark green velveteen jumper worn with a white blouse with a big collar - again not that different from some of my clothes now (many, many years later).

I loved how reflective this video was... I feel like being more connected with things that really interested you in your past is such a great place to start being a bit less terminally online (obv idk about you but this is a problem for me). Idk I've been trying hard to spend less time on the internet and more time in my actual real life recently and it's been very good for my sense of self. I thought I would end up feeling connected to people online but I kind of had to relearn how to interact with people in person before I became more confident in my online interactions?? And like... Now interactions over the internet is an option rather than the default. And omg just going outside more and engaging in hobbies has given my brain safe places to wander so I'm not just rehashing anxieties! Critical for me to get anywhere!! Anyway this has got maybe more personal than I meant... Nice to think about what I was obsessed with as a kid (cargo pants and dreaming of being like kim possible, while irl being a shy nerd haha)

I was born in 95, and Mom dressed me like I was from the 80s lol I hate suit/skirt sets to this day, but I really wish that I still had some of those dresses with big square/triangle collars lol They always made me stand up straighter and feel more confident than some thin, non-structured dress. If I could find some decent ones at the thrift, I'd snatch them up in a heartbeat lol I had a phase of hating stuff like that, but I was honestly most secure at the time that Mom chose all my clothes for me XD I wish I had a jean maxi skirt nowadays too lol it's funny how I miss some of that style, but I also wear jeans, peans and shorts these days too. Good old memory lane ❤

I’ve been wanting to do this! I’m also trying to take some of my old clothes and style them in a way where I would actually wear them now since I have a bunch of pieces that I’ve had since high school and some since middle school! I just need to go back to my mom’s house to find old pictures of me for inspiration. Great idea!

This looks like it was quite the undertaking of a video, but I really loved how it turned out! I'm off to go climb a tree now, thanks for the inspiration!

So insightful!!! I so appreciate your contributions here. "Dressing like yourself as a child" never really resonated with me but your observations are bringing all new light to the discussion. Truly great stuff. Highest quality content. :)))

This was the perfect video to watch this morning while unpacking my vacation luggage and getting ready for the day. I liked this experiment a lot! And I did not find your thoughts incoherent - it was an authentic reflection of the day in question and really interesting to me. Especially the part about how different certain items feel if you are a grown-up. Thank you! Maybe someday, you could do a similar thing for teenage you?

Oh man I had some wonderful shorts, dusty raspberry drill cotton with big pockets. They were the best. I wish I could get shorts like that now.
