Somebody at the old west store in Tombstone explained a few of the details in dressing the part. I already wear suspenders, so that's good, but no elastic! No collars on the shirts, so many little details. But the look will be well worth it when they haul me away to debtor's prison.
@ArizonaGhostriders
@ArizonaGhostriders 5 лет назад
Glad they were able to help you. There were some collared shirts back then, like the bib front shirt But the banded collar shirts are safe and less bulky under a bandana. Enjoy it!
@kirkmorrison6131
@kirkmorrison6131 3 года назад
Just a tip every standard folding collar has a banded collar under it. Rip the stitches and clean up the stray threads. If needed repeat on any pockets
@ArizonaGhostriders

Correct
@Luy22
@Luy22 Год назад
Wait what really??
@kirkmorrison6131
@kirkmorrison6131 Год назад
@@Luy22 yes, the top collar is over the banded collar separate the two and clean up the threads. Then depending on the era remove the pockets some especially later in the era and a single left pocket, but the braces made them kinda useless. I back dated my first one from a cotton thrift store shirt. It was large enough I was able to add some pleats to the front and make a perfect period shirt. It was an old dress shirt. Now it is a great Victorian reenactment shirt.

For the boots. How I did it was I got some insoles that felt good, then got a pair of boots that were comfortable with the socks and insoles.
@ArizonaGhostriders

Whatever works. I have some "townie shoes" that are uncomfortable after about 5 minutes, so I use insoles too.

Some reenactment groups actually keep a prop department of their own just for new folks and bigger jobs, you might be fortunate enough to find one nearby. You are usually encouraged to develop a character and a wardrobe of your own as you go along, but if you find a group like this you can get started right away. I live in Tennessee and most of the groups in my area are Revolutionary War era and Civil War era, but we also have Renaissance, Celtic and the Society for Creative Anachronism. (If you don't know about the SCA, I don't have time to explain it.) Long story short, you can likely get some help if you get in touch with someone like Arizona Ghostriders or similar. They are generally nice people who were once beginners and they want more people to play with.
