Great story. I hope Drew knows how much Pats fans appreciate him. He was a class act when Brady took his job. He was obviously pissed and disappointed. I remember his “next question” locker room press conference. He was angry. He swallowed his pride and did what was best for the team. He also got a bit of his moment in the sun in that AFC championship game. I was so happy for him. Drew was awesome. Most players, especially with the competitive drive like he had, wouldn’t have handled that situation so well. He could’ve been a major distribution and possibly caused the team it’s first SB. He took the high road. Class act. He recently got several shout outs at Brady’s Pats HOF induction. He deserved even more, frankly. But I’m glad he at least got some attention. I know I’m not the only fan that feels this way. Bledsoe is beloved in New England. I hope he knows that. We all know it was difficult. We all feel terribly for him. But obviously, with Brady, we all also know that Belichick made the right decision sticking with Brady. So, we can’t lie and say he got screwed or whatever. But we CAN at least appreciate everything he did. And we do. To hell with Brady’s Buccaneers years. To hell with Bledsoe’s Buffalo years. They’ll both eternally be Patriots. In fact, I wonder, without Bledsoe’s tutelage, do we even get the Brady we ended up with? Yet another reason to love Bledsoe. Patriots Nation will always love Drew Bledsoe.
Drew was a big help taking over in the afc championship, but saying hes the reason Brady won the first ring is crazy. Tom's the reason the Patriots even made the playoffs that year, and he's the one who led the Pats over the heavily favored Rams in the bowl. Yes, Drew helped. He was a great QB himself. But saying hes the reason just sounds weird. But then again, i'm more of a team guy. I think everyone was the reason, especially the defense in the Super Bowl.
My dad had season tickets to the Pats from 1993-2007. By far the most fond memories are of this guy at the helm. This was before all the band wagon fans and women in their pink hats started watching the pats. Every win was celebrated, nothing taken for granted. Dont get me wrong, i love Tom Brady and Belichick and the 2000s/2010s Pats, but the 90s was special😢😢😢
I always felt that way, I'm a Favre fan from that era, I realize how damn scary good Drew was. Bill Parcells knew he was a great QB. Bo Jackson would probably be the single greatest had he not gotten hurt, and just like him Drew got hurt at the worst time, at a really rough age and in a arguably much tougher NFL. Brady had an enormous chip on his shoulder coming in so low off the draft, a 4th stringer with Drew Bledsoe in the drivers seat. That was some hella motivation and he used that, considerable talent, I admit that, and a little luck....especially one snowy Sunday in Foxborough with a guy named Woodson. Lol But it's apples to oranges, they both had great teams around them to work with. Youre talking about a John Elway level guy in terms of athletic level and pedigree vs a fierce competitor and athlete with mediocre skills he honed into something great over time with chemistry and respect, a great great coach who made sure he had all the best weapons around him and ahem...perhaps a little more who knows.
Those were fun teams-other than the Fitzmagic games, the Bledsoe era was the most fun I had as a Bills fan born in the mid-90’s before McDermott took over and broke the drought (honorable mention to Rex Ryan who at least made being a bad to mediocre team entertaining).
Crazy this man broke the record for pass attempts his second year in the league lol. A record that wasn’t touched until 2012 with Matt Stafford but they had Megatron. A WR like him in his prime you are basically like fk it just throw him the ball as many times as we can and if we are winning by 20 then we’ll consider running 😂. It has also been passed a few times in the last few years but that’s with an extra game of stats to pull it off. Honestly we are almost to the point where we are going to have someone complete 500 passes in a single season now. It’s just a matter of time really. Even guys like Brees and Manning were approaching that number without the extra game so it will happen.
Why would he brag about telling his friends to get him to a gym if he got hurt skiing, and they would put some sneakers on…. Would you trust him to sell you an expensive vintage wine? He’d lie about it if he could make mote money.
