i was standing watching at the wall near the dipper that year and you could physically see the difference in acceleration out of the dipper of the GTR Skylines compared to everything else, it was amazing how fast it put its power down
Living in Adelaide I spent a fair bit of time at the Grand Prix when it was here. The GT-R's out of the pits hairpin were something else. Dead Serious, of all the categories that raced in Adelaide during that time ... the only things better out of that hairpin than the Nissan's were the F1's (obviously) and the Formula Holden/Brabhams. The Superkarts, Formula Fords, sports sedans, they were all were slower on initial acceleration. Its how Jim Richards won 5 of the 6 races the GT-R's did at the Grand Prix (his only loss was a DNF in the Sunday race in 1990). Gibbo never set them for outright speed (the Sierra's and Commodore's were usually faster on the long straight. Sometimes even Tony's BM's were quicker). They were set just for acceleration out of the corners. And Adelaide was no old Silverstone, every corner was a slow one.
I raced one of his go karts! The Arrow AX5 in 1995. Still makes them through his company Drew Price Engineering. Great driver to be chosen to pilot a factory GTR around Bathurst.
