We appreciate all the comments, Drew has been shooting long range with me for a few years now. He is absorbing everything I teach him & absolutely loves the sport. Little Long Range Shooting Math lesson. 6.5 Creedmoor with a Muzzle Velocity of 2784fps, that's feet per second. When you break the shot, TOF, time of projectile flight to impact at 821yds (2463ft) is 1.11sec. The projectile impacts the steel & creates a loud bang called, impact rapport. Since rapport or sound only travels at 1115fps, it takes approximately 2.189secs for the rapport or sound of bullet impact to travel back & reach the shooters ear drum, noted as sound of impact. 821yds or 2463ft(Range to target) ÷1125fps(Speed of Sound) = 2.189sec. You add the TOF from trigger pull to impact 1.11sec with sound of rapport 2.189sec & you magically get 3.299sec from firing weapon, projectile shooting @ 2784fps, impacting target & the rapport reverberating sounds waves back to the shooter as sound waves in his ear drum as a solid hit. 3.299 secs from shot break to hearing impact, Can't Cheat Science
Who is standing down range? Not a good practice... definitely with a learning youngster. Safety should be first and foremost with any student or younger shooter.
There isn't anyone standing down range, ya'll are absolutely hilarious. I'm a 21yr law enforcement officer, NRA Tactical Law Enforcement Rifle, Shotgun, Handgun Instuctor, FDLE Law Enforcement Firearms Instructor & Certfied SWAT Operator. I know all about firearm & range safety. This is a dead end private road that was safety checked prior to setting up targets. There is however a small pine sapling swaying in the wind on the right hand side @ about 225yds down range. Its not a ghillie suit & its not Bigfoot, a Skunk Ape or a Sasquatch, lol.
My first thoughts as well! Trees on both sides, old country road, Remember , that bullet travels far. I don’t care if it’s a private road. Ya ever hear of hikers? Surveyors? Backpackers? People who are lost? You can only be sure of the background if you actually see it. Take the kid to a legitimate range.
@tjtinsurvivaltin3797 Dually noted but like I advised above, range was checked, dead end private road on private property, if they're criminally trespassing they need to be more careful where they decide to trespass. I've seen idiots walk onto a hot firing range too. Play stupid games & you'll win stupid prizes
