Pheromone is very powerful when combined with fire. Igniting a couple bugs will start a chain reaction that lights up the whole group.

Everyone forgets that HE grenades fear in its AOE. Not that I disagree with the B tier, but it urks me how few people bring it up.

Used to use the boomerang for ressing in multiplayer but after I used the pheromone canister, I NEVER went back. Also, I love the Leadburster. Genuinely insane grenade

Friendly fire was an issue with the Rippers _on release_ because their friendly-fire multiplier was drastically higher than it should have been... that has since been patched, and to my knowledge is largely a non-issue now... ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

The biggest problem with the Sweeper is that it's "best" use is as a panic button, but Cryo and Phero do that job much, much better, especially with the Mactera example you cited. Overall, pretty much completely agree with your picks.

you forgot to mention that the shredders have a significant slowdown effect. that's why they're even great on dreadnought missions. Also their way of dmg is basically an always on Hitbox, so they just AoE kill swarmers. IMO they are the best nades in the game. only wish they had no dmg threshold and only get destroyed when the time is up. But would be to OP I guess

I feel like Scout isn't so much the "get the objectives done" class and more of the "eliminate high-priority targets" class, focusing on things like acid spitters, wardens, etc. Most of his weapons are accurate hitscans that do a good amount of single-target damage but have small clips. The stun sweeper doubles down on this role. I don't think people really appreciate its long range and the fact that it is guaranteed to hit the enemy your cursor is on when you throw it. It makes locking down problematic enemies from across the cave a breeze. In most cases, it's more valuable to use your throwable slot to make up for your lackluster crowd control, but I don't think the stun sweeper needs any changes, people just aren't playing to its strengths (in my opinion)

It's especially good at dealing with web spitters in this regard (and not bad against acid spitters as well). The DoT is enough to kill web spitters in a single hit on hazard 5. Sure if you're Scout you could just shoot them yourself, but if there's like half a dozen on them crawling on the ceilings away from the swarm, then the stun sweeper will bounce between all of from nearly any distance (and it's basically the only grenade that can do anything at that range).

@@squiddler7731 my favorite uses is Def wardens and septic spreaders. Wardens have that tiny weakpoint that's hard to hit if they move down and around walls, so stunning them is nice. And spreaders can sometimes be hard to hit at an angle that exposes there sides so the stunner lets me correct that

I agree with scout's role(not the stun sweeper part, it's bad at the thing you mentioned too, just hit you shots or freeze them with cryo), but with a small correction, out of scout's 6 weapons, only 2 are accurate hitscan, the others are either inaccurate, projectile, or both.

​@@shadowfirehqI started playing this awesome game recently and I already love it so much, haz 5 is, somehow, really fun: seeing hundreds of bugs crawl in your direction as you pull out you best AoE to kill most if not all of them (except scout, he lacks in that department quite heavily) Is such a blast of adrenaline.

I agree with pretty much everything you said about Pheromone Grenades but I'll add that a single, well-placed Pheromone Canister can save an otherwise doomed mission which is something no other grenade can really say. I can't count how many times I was the last dwarf standing and was able to pick up all of my teammates completely unopposed by the swarm because they were all too busy fighting each other. It's like Iron Will in a jar! For what it's worth, it also can make soloing Sabotage Missions (which I think are otherwise the hardest for Scout since he loses all of his mobility in the defense sections because he has to stay in the green circle) trivial by simply chaining Pheromones since you can take all the supplies for yourself. I've done all 4 phases of a solo Drilldozer mission without firing a single shot (there was no flying rock phase) by just chaining Pheromone lol.

Rippers are very underestimated throwable - even when thrown in straight line they can cut good amount of swarm approach you, but where it really shines is when thrown in tunnels - it just melts the horde and even a big game.

39:54 Cryo is better with that imo, I sometimes use it to kill swarmers and the other things (idk how to spell it lol) because they also instantly die when frozen.

I mostly like the sweeper as an easy revive, I play with randoms a lot and when I’m playing scout the sweepers stun duration definitely comes in handy. Imo with certain teams it’s better to have 8 easy revives than 4 easy revives/panic buttons.

And then theres DRG Survivor, where the Stun Sweeper is the 2nd best in the game (cos if upgraded right itll pull in xp & resources from far away) - cryo is THE best cos its cryo, dealing dmg and freezing enemies in place so that u can run through them without taking dmg

I believe you're massively undervaluing the boomerang; allow me to attempt to argue why I think you should reconsider its effectiveness. What I think you've perhaps failed to recognize is that the boomerang saves an important resource, attention. The boomerang has relatively high value for ease of use, meaning you can focus on one threat while neutralizing another passively. 9 targets isn't too many, but you have 8 of them, their CC duration is incredibly long, and they most notably work on ungrouped enemies, unlike the IFG. There will almost always be enough enemies in range for this to jump to, so you reliably get maximum value with every throw, for very little effort (Just like Engie's S.S.G). Also, I'd argue it has a potent ability to help deal with naedocites (especially) and swarmers without taking your attention (especially as a class with weak AOE). IFG deals with grouped enemies, these have more coverage, Pheromones can distract enemies as well, but you have 8 of these AND they provide electrocution damage synergy. I don't just like boomerangs, I think they're good. On your list, probably B tier, as unfortunately higher hazard level does noticeably hurt their fixed effective targets, but effective still when you need it nonetheless.

Why use boomerang when cryo does job better. Seriously though, everything the boomerang does the cryo nade does better. Mactera or naedocytes? It's a one shot kill with the cryo nade. Got a problem with swarmers? Not anymore. You can also just completely halt half a swarm with a couple of cryos, and shred everything. Not to mention that this isn't even scouts job, your driller and engi should handle all of those threats with ease. So in that case you're using pheromones anyway.

Nah it is just bad. It would be somewhat useful if it did Melee dmg, could 1 hit a grunt and trigger Vampire. Same goes for the ripper.

I absolutely love running the pheromone bolts aswell as the pheromone grenades, there's a lot of situations where you only need one or two to turn against each other, which is why the bolts are useful which makes it better since you're saving the grenades for hoards

Spring Ripper needs to go either sticky route and be single target. Maybe stunning to give it a clear distinction from impact axes. Or it needs to go much wider and do a truckload more damage and be like a breach cutter in grenade form

One idea might be to have the Ripper start moving forward/dealing damage as soon as you release it. Atm it kind of falls to the ground limply, THEN starts moving and dealing damage, which gives it a weird delay + all of its other issues. If it at least zoomed through the air a bit before impacting the ground and starting to roll, it would be more fun to use imo. Would also give it that "breach cutter" feeling a little bit. - Zach

Does C4 count as a grenade?? Probably shouldn't. I'm a 600 hour dwarf miner, and I agree with every placement. In my opinion, only 3 grenades in DRG feel unnecessary or out of place: Driller HE (isn't needed on the class), Driller Ripper (too difficult to use, generally weak), and Scout Voltaic (because the other 3 are way better). All other nades have something they're amazing for.

C4 is considered the Drillers "utility" option so it isn't covered in this list. It does have some similar properties though, for sure. Big boom - Zach

I generally agree with HE Grenades being a little unnecessary on Driller, but playing on Haz 5+ (especially with the new boosted swarm counts) it does feel a bit better to have them around. I still prefer Axe or Neurotoxin (personally run neuro on almost all of my Driller builds) but I dabble in the frag grenades every now and then. - Zach

Everyone's always suckling on the impact axe kool aid... I mean, I do the same thing too, don't get me wrong, not a single driller build without them at legendary 5. However, I'd like to see just one hot take where someone says "here's why rippers are better than impact axes", y'know?

Rippers are better for killing teammates. They are also good in tunnels on the class that can easily make tunnels. If you play driller like engi, they can be useful but axes do far better for single target dps and driller has no lack of crowd clear and does need single target.

boomerang is great if your not solo and can let your team deal with a decent chunk of bugs(take this from someone who has only played scout for 450h) 8 charges to stun a decent number of enemies is great for picking up team mates, depositing or doing short objectives it also reduces grunts to 1 hit body shots from the m1000 if you dont have toughness on and makes guards and slashers easy to kill as well dont run solo as it wont really help with killing but as a support its about even with pheromones for me the 8 charges + bouncing is why its not a worse version of cryo as it really isnt meant for killing things also cryo to high as pheromones and boomerang are generally better then it for what you would use it for as scout unless your solo, only something i take on dread missions as while its good it generally isnt a good enough support most of the time over the other 2 never liked slow outside of salvage missions where i know im going without an engi as it wont help your damage and there are many better options your team can provide for the same result

I feel like the point of Ripper is to be thrown down a long, straight driller tunnel that currently has a swarm barreling down it that's an extremely narrow usecase, but it is _the_ case where the single grenade that is specialized in dealing explosive damage along a long narrow path can shine

just an exemple, got a dreadnought build on driller with sludge with the of that make it do big dmg on hit + autocorrect subata, HE nade is real good here for those pesky ambushes and swarmers. It's also good for the tanky one when it has the 3 weakpoint you gotta kill.

I run the Sweepers on my Scout as a panic button, while I do think generally Cryo and Pheromones are better grenades for panic buttons, I run cryo and pheromone bolts on the crossbow, so I have Pheromones and Ice already covered

Personally gunner needs a grenade rework they just don't cut it on haz 5 or higher Can't use fire lead buster or cluster because of team damage 😢

I'm not at the part of the video when you talk about the boomerangs yet, can't wait to hear your opinion. I ran it ALL THE TIME. Great for stunning anything high-priority, I can freeze Menaces, Wardens and kill them without any fuss. It can deal with shockers, good for revives. It is really hard for me to change from it, but I might give a chance to other stuff. I have 1300hrs if it means something.

I run the boomerang a lot, because it's fun to use, but I just find it a bit weaker than other options, sadly. My personal picks for Scout grenades tend to be either boomerang or pheromones, sometimes IFG on Dreadnought missions - Zach

Sticky grenades pair really well with bulldog since you can stick one to a praetorians face and they'll turn around in fear and reveal their weak spot for you to shoot at with your secondary. Also rippers are super underrated and dont deserve to be in C tier.

I'd argue the boomerang is wayy better than the ifgs. The ability to almost instanly shut down up to 9 priority threats like trijaws, acid spitters, or tanky enemies like praetorians or oppressors (albiet with a much lesser effect) from doing significant damage to your team from basically any range in the caves is huge. The electrocution also deals a pretty significant amount of damage as well, meaning your team can quickly dispatch the enemy with just 1-2 shots when actually they're able to deal with those threats. And honestly I'd boomerangs are on an equal footing with cryos/pheremones because of it's advantage of being an all-distance grenade that'll zip through caves to work its magic, traveling at around 36-40 feet per second. It's a powerful suppprt tool that can change the way a fight goes with the safe effectiveness that cryos and pheremones would, albeit with a different approach.

Okay, why stun a swarm of macteras and spend ammo killing them when the cryo grenade one shots them all instantly? Why stun a bunch of enemies when pheromones can lock them down for ages and even cause them to kill eachother, or expose weakpoints for you to pick them off, or group them up to get maximum effectiveness from Cryo Bolts or a Double Barrel blast at point blank? Its best use imho is to stun faraway praets or mactera to pick off before they get close. Cryo and Pheromones just have so much more utility and use cases.

The plasma burster took me a good while to get around to actually try out, but the moment i realized it's a great instant damage burst, on a character that really needs as much time to prepare (reload times are the bane of ny existsnce), it started to grow on me, it's a pretty good option for crowd control too

Cluster is S tier. Flying enemies? Just aim higher, it will split and cover a lot. Enemies on the wall? Wait for them to come closer to the ground and then throw the nade, it will cover both the wall and the ground. Generally the area of the cluster nade is so huge I don't see how you can put pheromones in S tier while having cluster in A. In fact cluster immediately killes all those bugs, while pheromones deals with them over time. And I think cluster is better than leadburster. Leadburster is all about single target damage, but you have minigun, bulldog and brt for single damage. And the latter 2 are amazing at it. But you don't have any burst aoe with big coverage, unlike driller and engi. Being able to yeet it and kill half the swarm shouldn't be underestimated.

Stopped using cluster because it's weaker and less consistent then incendiary against large swarms. Then LB was better as well while killing bugs in a 360 effect on top of bulk sniping. Good style points but cluster definitely belongs in B (sure as hell not S)

Stunsweeper is good for killing small enemies. You have 8 of them so using 3-4 to survive swarmer swarm is a good trade imo

@@Inquisitor_Markus then either double barrel, maybe some dark shenanigans, or just ignore the swarmers. Bosco will clean it up, or your teammates. I mean obviously for haz4 or some like that boomerang is ok, but that's not saying much. Considering it's mostly for jellyfish and swarmers, it's really a waste of a slot imo. Considering how you can use cryo to insta kill whole mactera waves, save ur ass in tight moments or even faze skip dreads. And generally using half your ammo pool to clear one swarm is a waste of ammo unless it's haz5a or higher difficulty.

@@garikek And I haven't played a single mission on lower haz than haz5a since the start of season 5, so if something killed a swarm, I didn't die and still have ammo, I consider it a good build
