Colorados investment into their railroad heritage goes to show how much of a draw railroads are to tourists. First thing I think of when someone says Colorado is Steam! Cumbres and Toltec, Durango and Silverton, Rio Grande Scenic, Colorado Railroad Museum, Georgetown Loop, Cripple Creek. They all make me want to take a vacation there!
Ok so my earlier comment was absolutely stupid (note it was last year) because the whistle isn't even that bad and it does kind of sound like a DRGW 5 chime.
The whistle on 491 in this video is her 491 5 chime. It's a D&RGW 5 chime. yes, it sounds awful - it had casting defects (hole in one chime, big divet out of another), the railroad apparently didn't care... but this is what she had for years.
MPT 482 I know this comment is half a year old, but I think the green boiler was something the D&RGW did with some of their "passenger" engines, but don't quote me
+SteamUP if you want to see me uploading some trains videos subscribe to my channel I'll keep you updated it'll take me two years to upload videos on my phone just be patient
5.56x45mm they are called Doghouses. The brakemen would sit in them when not on top of the cars on freights trains. They’d sit in there because it’d be way too cold in Colorado with harsh weather to be outside. The heat and shelter was vital to the brakeman.
