I’ve been asking all the you tubers for years to give us a proper tutorial on this song and up until now I haven’t seen one. Crucial thanks for this one brother
you're welcome. And yes! this one's a gem. i'm glad I could bring it. That's one of the main drivers of this channel. bring these clasic picking songs, true to form, but in a slow digestible way. Any other classics i'm missing?
Funny you should ask , I’ve been searching for a proper tutorial on CW Stonekings song On a desert isle (he actually has one on here where he shows you how to play it but it’s kinda poor lighting and audio) I’d love to see one on Leon redbones Border of the quarter. The CW tune is fantastic man, it’s got some cool chords in it. And anything Leon redbone is just good.
Haha. Yes!! That's what I love to hear and also what I hope I'm doing: keeping these songs, alive, spreading, and living in the sense that they are literally on mens fingertips and tongues! Not just the speakers. Be well, Mitch and lmk if there's anything the channel is missing.
Appreciate that, Casey. Trying to bring the songs true to form, but being em forth in a digestible and light way. Hope you keep learning from the channel! Any gems that the catalog is still missing?
I'm 17 and you are the BEST youtube guitar teacher I've ever stumbled upon. Im not that great at guitar but its THIISS video that's driving me to learn more. I'll get there 👌 thank you for the awesome tutorial
Glad you found the channel. And thanks! Dive into the content. Check out 2 playlists I have "Travis finger picking" and the "how to get better at guitar". If you're really motivated to learn and get better in always trying to help out younger pickers. So I'd be happy to give you a few lessons at no charge and help you out. Email me if you're interested.
@@MikesMusicMethod oh wow that's so cool!!! This is exactly what I've been looking for. I'll definitely look into those playlists & see about those lessons :)
I've been wanting to learn how to play this song for months, but it sounded so complicated that I didn't even bother looking up a tutorial. With this excelent video and a few days of hard work, I finally managed to play the whole thing through. Thank you for the amazin lesson! Cheers from Brazil!

The first fingerstyle song i ever learned :) was truly a difficult process! No RU-vid tutorials back in those days. Pretty damn sure I play it mostly wrong lol
@@MikesMusicMethod I have not learned it yet, but it's on my list. I'm currently trying to learn Tower Song. I tried to make a small donation, but I'm not sure if it went through.
thanks, man. I wasn't planning on it. But if you want! To be honest, man, almost all of my time for music is spent either transcribing songs for this channel, recording songs for this channel, and editing songs for this channel. Ha. My time for actually rehearsing tunes and getting them up to speed is almost always spent on original tunes. But this is a great one!
My dude, I found you a couple of months ago. I have been playing guitar for 18 years, but never the Travis picking style. 2 months ago, I could play no Travis picking songs. Now I can play Clay Pigeons (your tab was a life saver), Blues Run the game (your video was amazing) and learning these gave me the ambition to learn Sunflower River Blues. Thank you a bunch for helping revive my interest in Guitar. Would you be willing to do Here Come the Blues by Jackson C. Frank?
tim. Thanks, man. Love these comments. They are very encouraging. Glad the channel is helping and providing real value! Congrats and keep at it. As for the Jackson Frank tune, the list is long! So head over to MikesMusicMethod.com and consider sponsoring the song to bump it up. My list is like 150 songs long at the moment, and this aint my day job! God bless, tim!
Consider sponsoring it. Justin is cool, but not my absolute fav, and the request list is like 200 songs long already! www.mikesmusicmethod.com/sponsoring-a-song
I do. Go to my main channel on RU-vid, click on playlists, check out the Travis Picking playlist. Consume videos 2-10, then the first one Travis Picking Primer. Come back to this one in 3-6 months and nail it!
Think I've checked out every other tutorial and tab of this song on the net and yours rules Mike. Prettiest picking... but those lyrics...song could've been titled 'Gotta Keep My Life Lonely and Small'. If we could just do something about those sad, empty, misogynistic words, we'd have a really great song. Or is the irony and self-mockery so huge I can't even see it? Anyone who knows, please tell me. PS just donated a chunk, cos I haven't done the math but I feel with small monthly amounts, PayPal will shave us to the bone - am I wrong?
Are you S.C. If so, thank you kindly, man. It's dudes like yourself who buy me time to keep this channel going. It's no small effort, man. My wife still thinks I'm insane. ;) I keep telling her..."one day! One day!" Nah, jokes aside the channel is growing and there are some generous folks who understand the value 4 value. And thanks, man! I get pretty obsessed when I tab these things out and try not to let even a single note slide past me. It's really absurd how much I'll hang myself up on one note in a passage that's muddled by the vocal or another instrument. I NEED TO FIGURE IT OUT!! rewind! REWIND!!! REWIND! ha, as for the lyrics. Nah, man, I agree with you. I feel like 90% of the time I wanna rewrite these lyrics with some positive twist, or insert Christ into them. They're so frickin hopeless and self defeating.
Yeh, SC, that was me - I'm old school, I figured out how much it would've cost me to walk into a music store and buy about three or four books of tab (which is how we used to do in the Paper Age folks) and then donated that. (BTW Those books were THIN and they COST.) I'm cancelling my sub to a well-known app, and just going with you - because you've got great taste (meaning, you like the same stuff I do...) - and OBSESSIVE is GOOD!!! SO MANY others just kind of take a guess, filter it through their own technical limitations and urgent need to go for a beer - I download, maybe I paid, and I'm "NO! Wait!! There's a bunch of other stuff in there you didn't figure out!'... , that make us want to learn the piece in the first place!! I have a musician friend (he transcribes John Renbourn pieces who says, Only obsessives are worth playing with. Keep doing what you're doing, you're a great teacher, lovely energy (we can talk about the lasers later man), and we'll keep supporting and spreading the word. And yeh maybe you are insane - but you didn't choose to be born that way - on the other hand, your wife did choose to marry you, so... who's insane, really? Just kidding (does she read this stuff??)@@MikesMusicMethod
