Thank You Andy. Coincidentally I have to build a POC for something that should work like exactly how you showed and I was stressing on how best to build one. You are a God Sent Gift. Thank You 🙏
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! Gonna use it for an organizational chart. The other videos for org charts are toooooooo complicated. This is straight-forward and has a nice clean design. You saved me my job! B-)
I tried to implement this one step further (basically then click on the subcategory and then the next set opens for the specific category - subcategory selection but that did not work. Is it possible to drill down further then only one time? Thanks
Thank you so much!! This was incredibly helpful. Does anyone know how I can change the category rows and manipulate what they're adding together? I don't want to delete any subcategory rows, but I would like to exclude some from the SUM calculation for the main category. Or, if I can make it so that the main categories are not doing a SUM at all when not selected, and it only shows values when you drill down, then that would work too. Thanks!
Hi Andy! is there a way to same way of selective drilling down for Subcategories, Manufacturers and Product in the same sheet? Appreciate your thoughts on the same.
Hi Thank you very much. However, what if we dont want to show category and sub-category both after drill down. In this case, the visualization will be, once one category will be clicked, we will only see the sub-category for that particular category.
Hi Andy, i have a requirement for which i am counting a sequence basing on category in bar chart, so when i click on a particular bar , it has to split basing on the date. for example if i have a bar with the count of 20 and when i click on the bar, it has to split by the date and has to show all those 20 sequence along with the dates.
Hi Andy, thank you for sharing this. Been googling too long to do this kind of action in Tableau. btw, is there any workaround on the sorting so that it won't automatically go to the bottom? or its really just manual sorting one by one?
If you mean the category sorts to the bottom, then what you need to do is duplicate the Category field in the Data pane. Move that to the rows as the first field, then sort that field. I think that'll do it. Though it may add the option you click on to every row.
Hi Andy - great video.. is it possible to have a 3rd column after Sub Categories named Product and with Subcategories showing the same side/down arrow.. so basically Categories can be expanded to Sub Categories like you showed in the video - is it then possible to have Sub Categories (one Sub Category at a time) to be expanded to Products lets say.. I tried it using 4 columns in total named Business Unit, Region, Country and Location.. when I expand Business Unit then only Regions should appear with Down Arrow signs but it expands all columns i.e. Region and Country showing the Location per Market..is there any tip/trick to apply the logic you have shared in your video to more columns :)
Yes, there's a viz on Lindsey Poulter's Tableau Public page in which she shows the technique. Keep in mind, that while it's super useful for the user, it's super complicated to implement.
I have a sheet in the dashboard, where all the state locations are grouped in APAC, AMER, EMEA. Now the user wants to export a file/excel from that sheet which will have all the states belong to which region. Can somebody please help?
Hi, Thank you for your content. Is there an other way to do that without the Change Set value? I am not able to update the version of Tableau to enable the set actions.
Great video! Is there a way to count the number of customers responsible for 80% of sales in a calculated field that updates based on filters? For example, a worksheet title that would say "XX customers are responsible for 80% of sales in East Region in Furniture Category". Is that possible?
Hey Andie, Thank you for wonderful tutorial. But, I'm stuck at creating the action on the set. It gives a warning message saying ""missing fields on sheet"" when I select the target set. And later on when I click on category, it doesn't work.
Hello Andy, I have extended this technique also for the columns, adding the months. Is there a way to add the totals per years in the view with the months without add all the sub totals?
I believe there are two Workout Wednesdays that might be what you are after... Challenge 2019 Week 35 1. When setting up the action, make sure you don't pick the option that limits it to a single select. Then when you pick multiple items at the same time, they'll both expand.
Hi Andy, any idea as to why when I add on the third level it doesn't expand like it's supposed to. For example, when I select categories, everything opens not just the category I selected. thanks for any help
I learned from this example by Lindsey Poulter. Have a look at her calcs. public.tableau.com/profile/lindsey.poulter8872#!/vizhome/SetActionDrilldown/ScatterPlotDrilldown
Hi. I have followed the instructions and created worksheets with the actions, but when I put those sheets inside of a dashboard the functionality is lost?
@@vizwiz Hi Andy Kriebel. the Video was very interesting. I am also struck in the last step where it works in the sheet but not in the dashboard. can you please let me know is there is a workaround? Unfortunately I do not see any solution for this in the end of your video. thanks.
@@kmot92 @naveendoss I figured this problem (dashboard does not work with the created worksheet/table's select function) - After you add the worksheet to a dashboard, add a new Action to "This Sheet". The action previously created is only in "This Workbook". If you create and add the same action in "This sheet", this table/worksheet should work like expected in the dashboard.
Great Tutorial, but this does not seem to work if I want multi-level Drill Down, since the second set is seleceted by the first set, it shows all values in the third set. Example: I have City -> Zone -> Group When I create a city set, and zones are selected depending on this set, I create a set from the zones selected, and depending on the zones selected set I show groups, all the zones selected are selected from the city set so it shows them all but I want to show them only when a zone is clicked
Hi Andy, this is awesome! Is there a way to set it up so that one can drill down more than 1 level, I have a requirement to setup a 5 level drill down, and wanted it done using set actions. Any help would be great! :)
I am trying to recreate this example. When I added YEAR to the columns it stops selecting. I remove it then it works again. I am using 2021.4. Anyone has the same experience?
Haver you ever run into an error message in the 'Add Set Action' menu 'Missing field on drilldown'? I tried to continue another level and can't get past that error.
@@vizwiz Would it not be in the view once it is populated into the set from the previous action? I'm also using measure names and measure values and am unsure where I would put the field the set is based on. Placing it on rows would populate the members which I want populated by the drilldown and placing it somewhere like detail effects the values.
