At last an east way to move the ever awkward drill press. The Bora PM with a 29x24 inch platform was not good but a smaller platform of 2 sheets of plywood laminated together works great! www.amazon.ca/...
I just installed this PM-1100 on my old 6” delta/ Rockwell jointer with the old style solid cabinet stand, which is heavy as a tank! It performs very well and handles the weight no problem. I used double 5/8 ply and the thickness is perfect!... now my “Tank” has wheels!
I just started putting this together for my drill press. The 2 size set of bolts that screw in the plywood is a smaller diameter compared to the 1/2" drill bit it says to use to drill the hole in the plywood. Why is that? Won't that leave a bigger hole for the smaller diameter bolt to be loose? Also, the top plate hole has a larger countersunk diameter hole, compared to the bottom plate (with wheels) holes. Is the bolt supposed to screw into the smaller hole on the bottom? It also did not come with "nuts" for the bolts. How do the bolts stay secure if it just goes through the larger 1/2" diameter hole that you just screwed into the plywood, without securing the other end with a nut?
From what I remember the bottom plate is threaded for the bolt. So the bolt goes through the top plate, through the plywood anchoring in the bottom plate effectively sandwiching the top plate onto the wood and into the bottom plate. Larger holes in the wood allows you to ensure the assembly lines up. Smaller holes would not be of benefit and if not perfectly aligned would prevent assembly. My biggest recommendation is to NOT USE AN IMPACT GUN TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS!!!! Sorry to yell but that was my mistake which caused 2 bolts to strip. They are on opposing wheels so not a big issue but if you tighten them by hand they won’t strip out. So far the unit has worked great despite the two wonky bolts.
@@mbwoodbutcher Thanks for the info. I'll take your advice and screw in the bolts by hand. I'm also thinking I should drill from the side of the bottom plate, where the smaller holes are as these seem to be more critical in aligning as they are the smaller holes that need to be threaded into perfectly. Will finish up tomorrow on this!
That is absolutely a very valid point! The challenge for me at the time was that I live in a rural community and getting to a hardware store is a bit of a drive and I needed to get this done so I could get a few other things finished in the shop. Excellent idea if it’s available. Also the bolts need to be a specific length and you may need to grind them down depending on the available lengths.
Thanks for the video. I am in the middle of researching a mobile base for my drill press looking at the Bora PM-1100. One suggestion, in the PM-1100 manual, Bora suggest when building a narrow base to mount the pivot wheels opposite of how you mounted yours to give a narrow base a bit more stability, not sure if you caught that in the manual.
Yes, I noticed that in the manual. With the holes drilled I could easily switch it. For where my press is located this configuration works the best. This has been working great so far.
