Thank you so much for sharing this. It's the best tutorial I've ever seen and I've seen hundreds of all kinds. You hit all the important steps for drilling and I'm applauding you for opening with the safety tips. 👌 ❤

Hi, thank you for you tutorial I have a drem but did not know what all the different pieces were for and how to use them and your video has helped a lot for drilling a piece I hope you can make a video on all the different pieces and how to use them (like the round disks ) and how to put them on the tool. I also did not know about keeping everything wet. thank you again.

This may sound weird but since I didn't hear her mention it- I'm positive all pet owners will put them out of harms way like I did, but one thing that never failed to happen was just like children,as soon as you get on phone or start to do anything, that's when they HAVE TO "potty". So I had lay down my HOT drill/soldering iron & go in the backyard. So lesson learned- Take care of pets before you start.

Can you use a dremmel and the same technique to enlarge holes with clay beads or are they too delicate? This is a fantastic video. Thank you soooo much!
@beaducation
@beaducation 7 лет назад
Hi Linda! Yes, you should be able to. We recommend testing the drilling on one first, maybe one with a flaw. Then you can see how wet you'll need it to be, and how well the bit passes through. Good luck!

If you wear glasses you can also get side shields to slide over the ear pierces if you have Z-87 or better lenses. Working with torch have welding glasses.

I’m working with stone jewelry. How do I put the screw eye pin in? Do I need to make the hole 1st then insert the pin or do I carefully use the drill bit to screw the pin in with no hole?
@beaducation

Hi! You would have to make the hole first and then insert the wire.

This is a good video. Question: When using a drill press, it appears that you can skip the step about starting the hole by drilling at an angle and then moving the bit to the upright position. Is that correct?

Thank you so much for the video. You made this very easy to understand. I work with resin and I haven't sold anything because I have trouble with the rotary drill I got at Harbor Freight. It's smaller than your Dremel 3000. I want to get this right before selling my pieces.

what drill bit should I use for thin glass such as an old shot glass, I'm making a necklace for my mum out of a very old sentimental glass which she accidentally smashed but I kept all the broken glass without her knowing, your tutorial is brilliant btw

Think glass can be tricky. I would try the triple ripple and see if it does the trick. www.beaducation.com/p/1557-jewelry-making-tools-diamond-tipped-drill-set-6-pieces

a great video. I feel confident to start drilling now. I don't have a flex shaft though so is there a limit as to what my Dremel will drill? For example I want to drill a hole in a Canadian copper penny. We have stopped using pennies in Canada so I'd like to make some 'nostalgic' jewelry with them.
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 лет назад
+nancyruth2008 sorry for the very late reply. We had a shift in employee duties that resulted in some youtube comments slipping through the cracks! The motor on your Dremel will be weaker, it will have limitations but the only way to know exactly how much it can do is to dive in. The tool will tell you right away if it's powerful enough for the job.

could you hold the stone with pliers or a vice? so you fingers are not near the drill bit?
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 лет назад
+redwingblackjack yes! Great idea!
@a.bearsfan4lyf89
@a.bearsfan4lyf89 5 лет назад
redwingblackjack, pliers may leave tool marks if you work with stones, minerals, or gems softer than 5.0 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. I've found that if you coat just the jaws of your pliers with a product called "Plasti Dip Tool Handle Coating" you can have a secure grip on the work and not leave tool marks.

@beaducation

Hi Irish! You will be a diamond drill bit, or Triple Ripple bit, and a flex-shaft or other motorized drill, such as a dremel. You can purchase everything you'll need on our website, www.beaducation.com. Have fun!

I'm a bit confused.. Do i need all those tools? Or can i use Dremel for everything? For what do i need the water? And is it not dangerous with an electric tool?
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 лет назад
+Emmi-Annie N. sorry for the late reply! No you do not need all those tools, Kate is just discussing each one individually as they all work a bit differently. You should be able to use the dremel for everything unless you are drilling through something very hard where you might need more power. The water is to keep the dust down and keep the bit lubricated. The water is not dangerous because you are only using a tiny bit. Hope this helps :)

+Beaducation I just noticed my dremel manual says not to use it with water. Do you think that small amount of water still isn't bad though?
@beaducation
@beaducation 8 лет назад
+Emmi-Annie N. Hi Emmi! You only are submerging or dampen the bit you're using to drill with. Make sure not to get any other part of the dremel wet.

You don't need water
@huskyfluffy
@huskyfluffy 7 лет назад
Debbie Chowdhury you don't need to, but it's better to. So.... you don't have toxic dust flying everywhere (some shells, are bad for you to breath, like abalone) and you don't want the drill bit to get too hot, if you're using it on a very hard stone, or you can change the temper of the bit... I'm told.
@moodylicious
@moodylicious 6 лет назад
yes you do. Water is especially helpful, as a safeguard, on quartz and gems and minerals. Otherwise they tend to get too hot by the heat generated from the rotary tool. They may crack, crumble or break when overheated. Better safe than sorry. It also, as already stated cuts down on crystaline dust particulate. *Could fly up into eyes w/o safety glasses or into lungs w/o face-mask. I have gotten an errant piece of quartzcrystal embedded in my eye. Very painful, needed to be removed by eye specialist. And I wasn't even working on my jewelry. It was a bit that had blown free in the work studio and just happened to fly up into my eye when I approached, fr the slightest generation of wind from breathing or body movement. Very painful experience, for days. Water not necessary on wood but what could happen is a slight burning of drill hole which may darken the drill hole. Maybe better to start w/ a smaller hole then finish with a round file to the inside of the hole to clear away any darkened burnt wood.

Hi, can you do the harder stones with just a dremel or do you need a flex shaft with a pedal as well? It does not seem that you sell all of this on the site as stated? I just really want to understand the tools needed. I am mostly wanting to drill through found rocks outside and river stones, maybe some shells. There is a lot of info in this but also the basics seem so unclear.
@beaducation
@beaducation 2 года назад
you can probably use a dremel. You just need to figure out the bits.
