How would you score a typical bottle of NV Moet or Veuve, guess I’m just curious about where this would fall score wise next to “regular” champagne (not that there’s anything about champagne that should be described as dull as to be regular)
Amazing question. For me the ”base wine” that i compare everyting is Moët Brut and 87p. And with age it can rise to 92-93p. To compare Pol Roger Brut is 90p, highest points from the basic cuvées of big houses. I don’t count Charlie nor Roederer to basics.. have you seen the points and btl condition scales i did for my book? 🤔
@@EdwardOfChampagne I must confess I have not seen the scores you prepared in the book-- haven't been able to work it my wine budget just yet, I must confess I have to stretch a bit of a beer budget for this champagne fascination. But yes that's very helpful w/the scores; I've loved Pol Roger in the past, but I can understand why you wouldn't place Roederer/Charlie in that category.they definitely sit in this middle space. Also that's very interesting to talk about the aging on a NV Moet, so people review NVs with age on them-- Honestly it can be very hard at times how old a NV might be... I've just kind of had to go on general graphic design clues-- but it can be very difficult, Like at least with Veuve it seems that about once every 4 years they made a very small change to the bottle; though the latest design, isn't exactly a small change; but perhaps that's a different discussion! 😆
