I walk around Bradford in search of some run down pubs and a good pint. I walk around the center to see what's kicking off and chat to some locals about the area. SUBSCRIBE - / @honestplaces #bradford #vlog #travel
For a future video, consider going to the top end of Walsgrave road in Coventry! It's a big road - go closer to the town centre, then can venture to the town after. I lived there before I moved abroad... Ropy is the word that comes to mind. (one of the main reasons I moved abroad) Would be an interesting visit.
What was up with that "head-nodding" guy? Probably expected someone to start an argument with him. A lot of town centres are dodgy, rare for someone to just come up and start a friendly conversation.
Bradford is a great. Lived here 17 years. Some of the most welcoming people (of all colours and creeds) I've ever met. Despite the issues of poverty and the council trying to butcher what's left of the City centre and outer estates, we all try and stick together in the struggle. Some awesome eating spots too. Outsiders love to knock us (particularly evident in the RU-vid comments section and local paper) but they have no clue what goes on.
Bradford, Halifax, Huddersfield. All wealthy towns in their prime, as evidenced by the beautiful town centre & public buildings. The industry is now largely gone, with little to replace it. No work, no money, just depravity and dying town centres.
Went to university there in the early 00s. It wasn't the best then, doesn't look like much has improved. 150 years ago it would have been absolutely thriving and the architecture in the city centre is a reminder of that era.
My daughter loves this channel. She wants to start a similar channel where she finds old-school ice cream parlours - “let’s see what’s kicking off at Luigi’s” “that mint choc chip is arf decent”
Bradford is a very strange place because even though its a shit hole it does still have some semblance of charm/soul in the city centre. I'm not sure there's another city so shit that still retains that despite being such a shithole. That's not to say it isn't a depressing place because it very much is. Lived there for 3 years and I definitely didn't have it easy living in Girlington and being the only white person for probably 2square miles outside of the occasional slav. But yea, its the nicest shithole I've ever been to plus the ring road actually works, unlike Leeds xD
Sad fact is that most "pubs" nowadays are chain brands meaning that the days of "rough pubs" (As in "the local" everyones knows thats been on the same street for five hundred years) will soon come to an end.
This is kn way a brag but 30 years ago I was the first homeless person to live under those arches. I would busk in the morning till the evening to make money for a drug habit. I have been clean 25 years and haven't been back there and this is the first time I have seen it again watching your channel.
Yeah I enjoy the look around these places but our host seems to be as sharp as a beach ball. Still we can't all be Prof Brian Cox I guess. He kind of reminds me of like a pound shop Ross Kemp "it was all looking like it was about to kick off" etc. Pans camera around a box standard sports bar "bet it gets a bit tasty in ere on a Saturday night". 🙄
Bradfords only good for drinking or food festival . Rest of it’s an S hole . But the bouncers was bit of dheads to me in that pub with the dealer outside you went in . so not been back since cba with bouncers who are bored so pick on people who are from out of town and hope to get a reaction out of you
I am from Bradford, used to go in the boy and barrel regularly, also been in the vault, love your channel, keep up the great work and stay safe and well always matey.
Off into York today get some beers in 🍻 2 pound bus can't go wrong. History walk will be interesting mate 👍 enjoying the vids. Inspired me to go out more
I’m an old Yank (67), never been to the U.K., but had plans to go when COVID hit. I’ve since had a medical issue so it’s not in the cards right now. I was going without the wife, because all I want to do is go from old pub to old pub and bullshit with the older guys. Don’t really care to see the Crown Jewels. To me, the older generation of the British people are my crown jewels, and I want to hear their stories.
@@Ira88881if you do decide to come to England pal Come up north everyone up north in all city’s in any pub will talk to you Down south they will ignore you 😉👍
@@Thomas-fr1ww I have no plans on even VISITING London, and was researching alternate airports. Like… Even if I had to fly into Heathrow or Gatwick, I would want to hop onto a smaller plane to fly elsewhere.

@@jacksonfrenchii8080 most grooming gangs in the UK are white British. Most sexual crimes committed against British children are by white British men. If you don’t believe me go look at what the home office report says. As for the rest of your thinly veiled racist bigoted nonsense. I’ve heard it 1 million times before. It all sounds like GB News headlines, Daily Mail headlines, the Sun newspaper headlines and the daily Telegraph headlines. You’re just a parrot parroting right-wing crap. Most of the British people don’t align with your views and your values or should I say lack there of. Hence why the Tories are getting annihilated and hence why reform uk aren’t doing anywhere as near as well as they would hope to be. Look what happened to UKIP. They never won one seat in parliament, and they disbanded. There are Muslims in the British Armed Forces willing to die for this country. There are Muslims in the NHS and care homes who were on the front line throughout the pandemic, saving British peoples lives. Immigrants contribute billions to the British economy every year. Take immigrants out of the UK and the country would grind to a halt. End of story. Next…..
@ddontyy i’ve no idea what the specifics of the award being awarded are. And I’m sure you don’t know either. Anything else to say? I know one thing, Asians and Muslims contributed massively to the local economy of Bradford and to the wider economy of the UK. And as I mentioned earlier, there are Muslims in the British Armed Forces. Willing to die for this country. There are Asians and Muslims in our NHS in our care homes in our public transport system and in lots of other industries, businesses and workplaces. Here’s a fact you can easily check. The Muslim community contributed £31 billion to the British economy in 2023. Toodle pip
The Drum Winder where they openly drug deal drugs in the alleyway next to it, that whole 200m of Ivegate street is a real eye opener. But Ive always liked and felt comfotable in Bradford, one of a tiny majority that actually prefers it to Leeds.
@@honestplaces Because while the roadworks are going on, Bradford centre is empty. But yes, at the corner of the Drum Winder they are drug dealing in the open every day. I guess the roadworks have killed their business.
I'm from Bradford to me now Bradford is a dead zone,it was once very lively place lots happening,on a Friday night the buses in to Bradford city centre from all directions would be packed of bradfordians going into town for a out night packed solid, but things have changed for the worst, streets are empty.
Back in the 80s I used to work at the Royal Standard on Manningham lane. Biker gangs. Punks.Goths. You name it. Everyone (that never came in) thought it was rough but we never had any trouble. Had a cracking couple of years!
Yeah, me too.. had some right nights in there, punk bands and beer going everywhere, leeaping up and down to the Angelic Upstarts, i seem to remember a pigs head appeared from somewhere and it got kicked around.. what a night. My local was The Duchess of Kent down Sackville street (now closed) All the BCFC ointment crew used to be in there and the telly was controlled by a big fat guy who was always in the snug called TV Tommy..!! Great days.. Boy and Barrel, Metropole, Harp of Erin, Sun Inn, New Beehive, all now gone but the memories live on
Council are kicking the homeless out from under those arches. Going to gate them off city of culture 2025 is more important can't have homeless about. Absolute disgrace
If you'd gone in the opposite direction from the ginger goose up to The queen's, that's a proper old man's pub and cheap as chips.on your upcoming (or maybe you've already done it) trip to the Krays pubs,a word of advice the landlord of the pub they bought their mum, hates anyone asking about the history or talking about it,he's turned it into a gentrified poncy bar👍
Went there most days a week last year for work, I like the place but the driving and parking standards round there are on another level ! Lot of interesting characters, have to watch yourself and keep an eye on things though.
The best pub in Bradford was the New Beehive but I'm sorry to see it's closed down. It had gas lighting, a coal fire in each room, a huge selection of proper beers and wood floors. A great place to spend an evening with friends.
I remember when I was 16 going into the town for the first time, we started in the bridge at the bottom of bowling old line, then to the town centre, the old empress, the old crown and Yates down ivegate and then the sackville arms followed by the county bar, I moved away from Bradford when I saw it going down the drain, such a shame for a once proud city. I won’t even drive through it now. It looks a horrible scruffy place going nowhere. Thank god I got out all them years ago. I suppose you don’t see it when you live there.
There’s a pub just near Bradford interchange forget the name, a few year back now, I had half an hour before my train so went for a quick pint, this rough as f@&k old prozzie approached me (like real 1970’s Peter Sutcliffe fodder) and started quoting the price list 😳 suffice to say I said “you’re alright love” necked the beer and headed for the interchange sharpish.
Pulled up to a junction next to the Metropole in about 1995 and a rough old prossie got into my car and offered me anything for a tenner, thought it was a police trap and drove off, she wouldnt get out and so i was about to lock her in but she relented and went across the road and started offering herself to my mate, brilliant
You walked past the City Vaults twice. Best boozer in the centre when I was last there. You went in what used to be the Old Crown on Ivegate. If those walls could’ve told you some tales you’d ‘ve run a mile or stayed for more!
Hehe, watching this and thinking Bradford being the Capital of Culture next year reminds me of the Rab C Nesbitt episode when Glasgow was capital of culture.
There used to be some cracking, down to earth pubs in Bradford, old crown, royal standard, belle Vue, Manville arms, etc, etc, happy days.Keep up the great reviews 👍
Ginger Goose was the name of a race horse. It ran 3 times in the UK back in 2012, winning a maiden race at Hamilton. Then it went off to Florida, USA and raced there until the end of 2017.
There used to be a pub called Delius that I used to go to in the early 2000’s which was great. Some great Friday and Saturday nights were had in there. I was sad to learn it closed down!
How much is a quid in USD? No disrespect meant, I love the videos. I'm only curious because in every video you labor over the beer prices when they're all in that 3-5 range. In this video 3.50 vs 4.50 sounds like no real difference at all.
4 British Pounds Sterling (Quid) is as of today, $5.20. He tends to go to less expensive, less touristy spots in the UK where beer prices are good. Last year in London, Cambridge, Bristol, Bath, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Sterling, etc., I tended to pay 6 quid for a beer. Too much. Bizarrely, if you go to pub-chain, Wetherspoons, beer prices are about 20% less (something about beer freshness and sourcing). I wanted to hate Wetherspoons because they are putting old pubs out of business, but I liked the prices and many of them are in grand old buildings.
IMO, your analysis on Kane is a bit harsh. Even though he's had a horrid tournament, he is a top striker who's never relied on his pace to play and never backed down from a physical duel. His consistent ridiculously deep positioning suggests that it's more likely to be a system problem (or a fatigue one). That being said, I'd definitely start Ivan Toney next game and bring him off the bench if needed.
HEY MAAAAN !!! ruff pub ??? try THE JERRY in Craghead Co Durham, be warned, you may not get out with ya camera or ya trainers or ya sanity !!, onlt joking bud but the jerry has a very colourful past, Shalom.
I just happened to be in bradford city centre a few sats back. I must admit of all the towns and cities I've visited bradford really is the biggest cesspit of them all. Seriously I've never seen anything like it, men of every nationality just hanging around, homeless everywhere, druggies and alcoholics with some collapsed out on the street, shops closed and boarded up, seriously the place is a mess
I live in Bradford. You missed out on the castle pub. It was just over the road from the boy n barrel that’s closed, down one of the side streets. Really old impressive building but my god it’s rough as inside! But very cheap beer lol. The rabbit hole is interesting too🤭
As an ex pat, it is quite frankly the biggest dump you'll ever come across. Pointless putting up speed cams as the cars aren't taxed insured or driven by the person who owns it. The place is deader than disco. No one left. That's what happens when everyone deals in cash and nothing gets put back in to the system.
Love your videos, I’m partial to a rough pub myself. But for the love of God, drink some decent beer for once!! Not that mass produced garbage you’re currently on. Tons of decent breweries in the north of England
Rough pubs, hahahaha These are like Kindergartens compared to what it was like in Bradford in the 70s and 80s. No trouble because people respected each other.
so far all i seen is a guy going about boozers for a cheap pint , there is no such thing as a hard pub its the attitude you go in with and any decent person will tell you same thing
The Crown Sports Bar was called The Old Crown when I used to go in there many years ago & it was a right rough joint! Topless bar maids, hard cases that you didn't look at & many colourful characters!
I love the premise, but none of these bars or towns seem even remotely rough. I’d love to take you on a St. Louis pub crawl if you’re ever in the US. For the record, I mean no disrespect and I’d have messaged you privately if I knew how
