Brother why do you suggest that pubs are dodgy? It’s people that mean the pub opens it’s doors. Every pub in Britain is dodgy. It’s how you speak to and treat the patrons. If you’re sound with people you’ll be looked after. If you’re a bam you’ll face trouble. That’s the same all over Britain.
well said.just because its Glasgow doesnt mean its dodgy..Big D standing with his back to you at 4:04 ? if heard you calling this pub dodgy? you wouldnt be alive to post it.

Heard the one about the bloke who walks into a pub and the first thing he says, to a complete stranger is, "not rough in here is it?" Then buys a pint but doesn't know the price, cos, you understand, he PAID BY CARD. Comedy gold.
There’s a reason why Glasgow has doubled as Gotham City in so many Batman/DC movies. The architecture and and atmosphere. It’s also double for New York quite a lot Ad a lot of early New York architecture was based on Glasgow’s. Also at one point during the Irish Famine the only place to receive more Irish people than Glasgow was New York.
When I lived in Glasgow the "clockwork orange" pub crawl was a good one. You take the tube/subway and get off at every stop to have a pint at nearest pub - you will certainly get some dodgy ones on that day trip 😂
Not really now...mind your business and like everywhere else 99% of the time they genuinely mind theirs. Go looking for trouble and you'll get it. Under that central bridge is full of trouble though 😅
I,m a Brit , an worked in the north ov Scotland 35 years ago , and good times in Glasgow on time off. , never any trouble , lovely Glaswegian people ❤❤❤❤❤,.
1.99? My kind of pub! We used to drink Tennants in similar style pubs back in the 90s Burton on Trent, seeing pubs like this still exist is brilliant, hope they stay open for many years to come 👍
Downs bar is actually called Sammy Downs if your local! Under Central Station Bridge is called the umbrella! To be honest if your looking for rough pubs, then tbh you've not visited them.
I get what you all meanby it but, in American terms going of these pubs is more of a cultureshock, something indentifiable but, more 'rural' and in terms of music/vibes , something from an entirely different time. I dig it, as a foreigner but it's mad "Still Game" vibes... It's quaint. An entirely different 'drinking' culture. loved the dude doing all the covers.. guid crack.
I used to live in Maryhill. Loads of 'dodgy' pubs in the 90s, but I tell you, fantastic people, fantastic atmosphere and the banter between themselves and me the Englishman was superb!
Greetings from New York! I love your pub adventures as I'm originally from the UK (Cardiff born and bred). I can't drink anymore due to 40 years of boozing so your videos are the next best thing!
CHEERS from Holland..love watching your pub adventures..(myself visited Glasgow manny times back in the 80 /90 ties...while we visited family in Stirling, I was to little for the pub..I still have fun memories that the family neighbours all came visit when we were around, music loud everyone was singing with a hair brush in the hand!!lots cans off beer..(even with sexy ladys on the cans😜)I❤ and miss SCOTLAND!!!(And OFCOURSE IRN BRU!!!!CHEERS🤭🍻
Haha yeah don't know why he mentions tennents lager so much ,it's not very popular here but like you say it had semi top less women on the cans ,that took me back, greetings from village next to Stirling!
All city centre pubs, very safe and quiet. Alpen Lodge looks rowdy 😅. If you come back in the summer I'll take you for a pint in some proper dodgy places. Good on you for getting Cali and Belhaven best though. Underrated beers.
The Horseshoe Bar in the city centre you should of went too. Legendary in the City Centre .live here .Love it .Best City in the world .People Make Glasgow 🎉
@davidcochrane9287 well said 👏 the horseshoe bar was my favourite pub in Glasgow for years. Women upstairs on karaoke ( some men ) and men downstairs doing their thing. . I miss Glasgow . Haven't been home in a while. ❤🎉😊
@@scotchiebird Great reply .lived a lot of places in the world working. Africa .London. Nine years away .Nothing compares to living in Scotland 🏴. People moan about the weather." Put a warm jacket on ".Glasgow is the friendliness city on earth. I feal so safe living here .Go into any pub not bothered .You will be made feel so welcome. Try saying that about other places in the world .God bless Scotchie..🏴 🥃.
@@davidcochrane9287 Seriously? You can say that about so many places in the world. I spent 30 years working in different parts of the world and am gutted that due to family circumstances, I'm back living here. Just got to get on with it though.
There's "dodgy bars" in Edinburgh as well. Went up there from Wales for the rugby and got drinking with Hibernian lads. Once they knew we were Welsh they wouldn't let us by a drink.
Parked up a truck overnight and found a pub called the King Ludd about 25 years ago. Had a great, quiet few pints with the mostly elder generation, walking sticks, flat caps and dogs. Got up in the morning and told our next drop-off and they reckoned it was the roughest pub in Glasgow.🙃
a quiet word from the locals and they would have called someone to keep you company for the night.Trongate has a lot of hooars at night to for the lorry drivers and lonley..
I once tried ordering a pint of lager with a dash of lime in it in a pub next to Glasgow station - it was a blazing hot day- the barman looked me up and down and just said “we don’t do cocktails”!
I was laughing when you went to the Tollbooth, I was thinking of that pub from the start of your video. It's a Tim pub but I always had a laugh in there. My pal was a Timmy Mallet and I'm a Gers fan he took me in there when we went to Glasgow or the toon whatever you want to call it. I haven't been there since 98 , back then it was a pound a pint! Cheers to Scotland!!
I'm a tim and a plumber..When I was serving my time, my big tradesman who was showing me the game was a Gers fan and he used to take me to all the Rangers pubs on a friday or sat and let everyone everyone know who I supported..Used to take a good slagging for that, but it was all good natured and after a while it was never mentioned..Great memories!
I worked in Scotland for my last job and remember the first night in Lanark ordering 2 pints of Tennant's and nearly fell over when he said it was a fiver 😂 I pay more than that for 1 pint round here!
@@spreadingthedrewth4643 you know that church/tower they light up blue, the little side street off that there's a curry house with a pub nextdoor. The curry house only sold cans of Irn Bru so you had to go to the pub for the beers
used to visit a friend in pollok shaws. in Glasgow. and I had a stand at the motorbike show at the SECC. always a great night out. battered square sausage an chips an Tenants 70 shiling
£1.99 a pint , that's why it was busy...it'd be £6 darn sarf 🤣 Traditionally the roughest pubs are always on council estates wherever you go in England , looking forward to that vlog mate 👍
Volume on drinkers is much more I fugre so it's based on turnover. I expect rents are considerably cheaper and I guess the Scottish Government did something with energy costs...
@TheGamesEmporium Depends on the venue and the prodcut but it's £6-7 for macro lagers and craft can be various because of duty on abv and ingredients and other reasons.
@@honestplaces your better off on your jays in rough pubs I always find. I like to go to all over, and only feels it gets moody when I’m with mates tbh 😂 I’ve got some London pubs for you to check out if you need a list.
@@crabapples1995 exactly if your on your own thats a pass in most pubs as long as yer not a prick or bump into a prick , go in a few handed in any real pub with a local clientele those locals are going to be on you wanting to know everything , they will be on you like paint , Glasgow scheme and Scottish town local pubs your just not getting a pass if your a strangers its a f ing inquisition in some places
It would have been an honor for me to show you a few pubs over my side of the city some of the pubs are like taking a step back in time lol @honestplaces
None of those pubs looked dodgy at all , everyone looked very chilled out , I’ve been in pubs where you could cut the atmosphere with a knife , all it would take to set things off is a “ dirty look “ at someone , some header taking offence where none was meant . The craziest pub I was in was the Bogside Inn recently demolished but back in the early 70’s it had a machine gun post set up at the front door to stop bomb attacks , the atmosphere inside was always relaxed as everyone knew each other but if a stranger walked in it was like a Tarantino moment , those were the days though , you enjoyed every minute like it was your last because there was a high chance it could be 😂
Me and my friend are doing the same pub crawl u done and were in the mac kinnons the now and woman said thank you very much.. she asks if pubs famous now lol. Thanks mate we have such a laugh so far
Wow. American here. I was in Glasgow a month ago. While waiting for my train at Glasgow Central I popped across the street to the Toby Jug for a quick drink. Old men looking for a cheap pint, pretty noisy and charmless. Good bartenders.
l think males born today had a 50% chance of actually reaching 65 in some areas, very sad. The SNP wanted state pension paid a year or 2 earlier in Scotland 2014 lndy ref to get state pension paid as Scots die younger
Years ago very occasionally, after night shift, when it was our last night on, we used to go to The Grant Arms, only place you could get served at that time in the morning. We reckoned that coming off night shift was just like finishing work in the evening.
McKinnons is licenced to sell booze from 8:30 if you buy food. Dow's, Sammy Dow's 35 years ago was a complete stab-inn. Avoided at all costs. Toby Jug was a city centre Rangers pub and trouble always brewing. Alpen Lodge was always an old mans pub. I used to drink in the Tollbooth on a Friday lunchtime. City centre seems to be cleaner and smarter than I remember. If you want rough get yourself up to Possil (Possilpark) or anywhere in Maryhill/Maryhill Road.
Good video mate. I’m from Glasgow, it’s strange seeing your own city on RU-vid like that. Plenty of high end bars but plenty of dives too. If you are looking for rough areas try the east end like Shettleston, Tollcross and Parkhead
What did that first guy say back to you when you asked him if that place got rough? He said something before you replied "fair enough" but I couldn't make it out.
I went in one somewhere near Ibrox and it was one of the friendliest pubs I’ve ever been to in my life. Some nice people up there. Keep an eye out for any graffiti on your travels
Dows wis a good pub years back, great karaoke & always roasting, Robert 😂 the postie, & no forgetting ole Eddie little ole wine drinker me (rip) few regulars now not with us including old landlady
I know all these pubs well, and the only even mildly rough one is mackinnons. City centre pubs are used to tourists/visitors or as locals call them, "civilians". So you don't really get trouble. Good luck in the schemes, and may your God go with you.
The last 2 times I''ve gone to Glasgow, I always go to the Tennent's brewery. That place is class with a bar for and tasting (included with tour) Even got myself a pint glass from there. Love me some Tennent's
@@honestplaces Aye you should! Ain't too expensive either! Being where I'm from up in northern norway we don't get that here. It's a special experience to get a banging Tennent's directly from the tap
walked by pubs such as the toby jug many times but never went in......its good to see the insides of them.....good on you for coming up but try them on a weekend day lol theyll be crammed to the rafters lol.....look forward to the video on the schemes you visit
I worked in glasgow , at the BBC close to the Great Western Road , i can't remember the name of the pub it was a long time ago , but we spent our lunch and evenings in there for a couple of months and the only problem we had was when Rangers and Celtic played and the pub was drank dry 😅 I put some tunes on the jukebox and my dad asked me to put on some Abba , i was like , im not walking up to a jukebox as a stranger in Glasgow and selecting Abba Dad 😅
You should be using cash my friend else it will disappear for good. Plus the landlords will save a ton on bank charges...PS. My tongue is hanging out of my mouth watching you drink those beautiful looking pints 🙂
Imagine coming to Glasgow and no having a bunnet. 😂 You missed a trick not going to the Brazen Head, you were only a short walk over the bridge towards the Gorbals. Oh btw, none of the bars you visited were 'dodgy' by Glasgow standards. 😂
You got the authentic trip to Glasgow, complete with rain. Im surprised you werent on the floor by the end - not from the drinking, but from how cheap the pints were. Easterhouse should be interesting... Shame no one was up for the trip with you. Did you drive up or train? Back when I had to do a few trips back and forth from brum to there it ended up cheaper to fly than the train - madness!
Mate there's no rough pubs in the city centre on a Wednesday during the day. You need to go into the surrounding areas of Glasgow. Glad you got some views without putting yourself in danger though.
