Drip Irrigation with a bucket for trees 

Looks good but seems to be a lot of work and expense that is not needed. I use three buckets and each have a 3/64" single hole at the bottom/side. I fill them at the trees, three trees at a time, and just let them drain. At first the pressure of a full bucket causes a rather quick drain but it slows way down in the last half. The dry topsoil can easily drink the first rapid half and when it starts to become saturated the flow naturally slows down as the level drops. I can water my 12 trees in several hours with very limited evaporation loss and the cost was $0 as the buckets were used and free. Another perk is that clogs are easily cleared when using compost tea. I usually put mulch over the water stream to distribute and cover the stream from air for reduced loss. Works like a charm and the trees love it once a week with mulch cover is plenty.

Great video! I was thinking about running a drip system on a timer. I enjoy watering my garden this allows me to water my garden personally, and obtain slow watering which solves my problem with runoff.

Nice design. I couldn't get a good seal with the o-rings so I swapped them with neoprene washers which I super glued to bucket.

Wouldn't putting a lid on create a counteracting suction preventing the leaking to continue at a certain point

Supposed to water trees near the drip line and not at the trunk. If one has clay soil this will not deep root water them at all. Will at most soak in 6 inches. Deep root is 24-36".

Instead of drilling a hole in the bucket, can we siphon the water out? I mean, 1. sink one end of the tube in a bucket (weighted down to the bottom, so not to float) 2.attach a dripper at the other end of the tube 3. dunk the entire tube in the bucket (get rid of air inside the tub) 4. grab the dripper end and stick it in the ground. I don't have a drilling tool, so I wondered if a siphoning method might work as it also works on gravity.

great idea , well worth the time . We just learned that the most important place to water the fruit trees is at the drip line so thats what we shall be doing. Thankyou

how long until the water runs out? Interested in using this method for when I go on vacation

what type of bubbler did you use. I followed this video and had a 1 gph drip irrigation head from Lowe's and didn't get it to flow. It barely dripped at all (wasn't clogged).

What hole saw size was that ?

Drill bit has a size stamped on it. “This is the most important part” and does not give us the information on a how to video. SMH

How long does it take to empty bucket?

Overkill. Simply drill a very small hole in the bottom of the bucket and it'll empty slow enough to saturate the area.

I thought it was great. I'm going to use it in my garden...it doesn't rain here much in San Diego so I put a pail in my shower for the water...I collect water..

Will this work on a 55 gallon plastic drum?

I have a question? I am not trying to be smart, I really don't know. Your watering the one spot. what about the rest of the root system. That root system comes out as far as the branches, and its not getting water.

Too much work. Just take a 3d nail, heat it red hot and melt one small hole in the side of the bucket, at it's base.

I used a 1 GPH but nothing came out in over an hour. The bucket was full and the lid was off. I was testing it before I built 8 more. Do I need a different GPH? I wanted .5 but they were out of them at the time.
